Samsung doesn’t usually give its non-flagship phones much fanfare, except when for a few models that it launches in certain markets like India. With its upcoming “Unpacked for Every Fan”, however, Samsung seems to be making quite a big fuss over it, even though most probably already know what it will be announcing there. It seems that Samsung is making … Continue reading

You know, the importance of waterproof tech has waned in recent months. Rain has become my defacto signal of a lazy stay-home day, and the frequency of neighborhood pool parties took a nosedive this summer, though some are throwing caution to the wind regardless of today’s circumstances.
iOS 14 was made available to download last week. One of the new features of iOS is the ability to allow users to choose which apps they want to use as their default app, like browsers or email clients. For those who have been looking forward to the feature, you’ll be pleased that Google has finally updated its Gmail app to take advantage of that.
According to a tweet by the Gmail Twitter account, the company has announced that its app has been updated and users can now set the Gmail app on iOS as the default mail client. This means that whenever you click an email link on a website or in an app, it will now open Gmail (assuming you have it installed) instead of the default iOS Mail app.
Note that Microsoft’s Outlook app had previously been updated to support the feature as well, but now it looks like users have an alternative with Gmail. Apple’s decision to release iOS 14 so suddenly has not gone well with developers. This has resulted in some developers not getting enough time to get their apps ready and compatible with iOS 14.

In some cases, certain apps have broken due to incompatibility issues, leaving users frustrated. We’re not sure what’s with the sudden release, but if you’re running into problems, give it a few days or a couple of weeks and we expect that most apps should be updated to support iOS 14 by then.

Microsoft Just Bought Bethesda
Posted in: Today's ChiliMicrosoft has recently announced that they will be acquiring ZeniMax Media and its game publisher Bethesda. Yup, it seems that the company responsible for some pretty major games like the Elder Scrolls series, Doom series, Wolfenstein, and Fallout will soon be under the umbrella of Microsoft.
According to the announcement by Microsoft, they will be acquiring the company for a whopping $7.5 billion in a cash buyout, although presumably all of this will be subject to regulatory approval to ensure that Microsoft is not engaging in anticompetitive behavior by acquiring the company.
This is good news for Xbox gamers because according to Microsoft, “With the addition of Bethesda, Microsoft will grow from 15 to 23 creative studio teams and will be adding Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass. This includes Microsoft’s intent to bring Bethesda’s future games into Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or PC, like Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios.”
Phil Spencer, executive vice president, Gaming at Microsoft notes, “This is an awesome time to be an Xbox fan. In the last 10 days alone, we’ve released details on our two new consoles which go on pre-order tomorrow, launched cloud gaming in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and now we’re making another investment in the most critical part of our strategy: the games.”

Are you looking to stream your Xbox games on your mobile device? If you are, then you’ll be very happy to learn that Microsoft has finally made its remote play app available to all Android users. Prior to that, the app was only available to Insiders, but now it seems that the company is rolling it out to everyone.
However, we should point out that this app should not be mistaken for Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming service. Instead, this is more like Steam Link or Sony’s Remote Play where your games are hosted and processed on your Xbox console, but it is then streamed to your mobile device. This means that you only get to play games that you actually own.
This is versus the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service that was launched not too long ago. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it allowed Android users to stream games from the cloud and choose from any number of games in Microsoft’s library. However, unlike Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the Xbox app and service is free, and all you need is an Xbox console, a mobile device, and a controller and you’re good to go.
Note that despite the app now being available to more users, it is still designated as a beta app, so it might have certain issues. Either way, if you’re curious about the app and would like to check it out, head on over to the Google Play Store for the download.
