Spotify Slams The Apple One Bundle, Calls It ‘Anti-Competitive’

Yesterday during Apple’s Time Flies event, the company unveiled its subscription bundle, the Apple One. Basically, this subscription bundle(s) combines various Apple subscription services into several different packages that are much more affordable than if you were to buy them a la carte.

However, it appears that while this sounds great for consumers, Spotify isn’t too thrilled by it. In a statement made by Spotify to AppleInsider, the company said, “Once again, Apple is using its dominant position and unfair practices to disadvantage competitors and deprive consumers by favoring its own services.” They also called on regulators to “urgently restrict” Apple’s behavior.

In response to Spotify’s comments, Apple released their own statement to Reuters reporter Stephen Nellis in which they said, “Customers can discover and enjoy alternatives to every one of Apple’s services. We’re introducing Apple One because it is a great value for customers and a simple way to access the full range of Apple’s subscription services.”

Spotify and Apple don’t exactly have the best relationship as the company has lambasted Apple in the past over the cut it takes from in-app purchases. Unsurprisingly, Spotify had also thrown their support behind Epic in the current legal battle between Epic and Apple over Fortnite’s in-app purchases.

Google Drive Will Soon Start Emptying The Trash Automatically

In case you didn’t know, unless you were to manually empty the trash in Google Drive, your files are never truly deleted. The upside is that this makes it easier to retrieve documents you might have accidentally deleted or have had a change of heart, but we imagine that this might irk some users as well who prefer keeping their cloud storage neat.

However, there is good news on that front because Google has announced that starting October 13, 2020, Google Drive will start emptying the trash automatically every 30 days. This means that similar to Gmail, users won’t have to do anything on their end as it will get emptied out every month, unless they were to manually do it themselves.

According to Google, “Starting October 13, 2020, we’re changing the retention policies for items in the Trash in Google Drive. With this new policy, any file that is put into a Google Drive trash will be automatically deleted after 30 days. Previously, trashed items would be retained indefinitely until the trash was emptied by the user.”

However, Google does note that for G Suite users, admins will still have the ability to restore items deleted from the trash up to 25 days after it was emptied out, so there’s still going to be a small window of opportunity for users to recover files they did not mean to delete.

Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Launched On Android

If you’re an Android gamer looking for a game streaming service, you might be interested to learn that Microsoft’s Project xCloud has launched for Android. This comes in the form of Xbox Game Pass which is basically the Netflix for video games, and where unlike other streaming services like Google Stadia, gamers just need to pay a one-time subscription fee and will be able to access the games in the library.

For context, Stadia is a game streaming service similar to Xbox Game Pass, but the main difference is that Stadia is merely a platform for gamers to play games through, and that users will still need to purchase individual titles before playing them. Xbox Game Pass, however, will give users access to a library of more than 150 titles at launch, with more added further down the line.

The downside is that gamers won’t actually “own” any of these games, similar to how you don’t really own the songs on music or video streaming services, but if you’re not too fussed about that, it’s a great way to enjoy multiple titles at once at a fraction of the cost. A subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will cost $15 a month and as far as mobile platforms are concerned, will only be available on Android.

While Apple has made some changes to their App Store guidelines that in theory would allow for game streaming services to exist, it is rather strict and doesn’t seem particularly realistic, much to Microsoft’s chagrin.
