iOS 14.0.1 Update Will Fix Default Apps Bug

One of the new features of iOS 14 that users have been anticipating is the ability to set default apps. Previously, website links would typically open in Safari, even if you use Chrome primarily. Email links would also open in the iOS Mail app, despite the fact that users might be using other apps like Outlook, Gmail, and so on.

However, it was discovered that there was a bug in iOS 14 that would reset these default apps whenever the iPhone or iPad was restarted, which is rather annoying. The good news is that Apple did not take long to fix that bug because the company has recently issued an update that brings devices up to iOS 14.0.1, and one of the bugs it addresses is the default app resetting bug.

For those who do not reset or restart their iPhones or iPads that frequent, then we suppose this isn’t really that big of a deal. However, if you’re the type that restarts their devices every now and then, we imagine that it can be annoying having to redo all your settings every time that happens, although this update will now hopefully make it a thing of the past.

In addition to fixing that bug, iOS 14.0.1 also addresses other bugs like camera previews now displaying, or preventing the iPhone from connecting to WiFI, sending an email, or preventing images from appearing in widgets. The update should already be live so you should be able to update your iPhone or iPad now.

Alleged iPhone 12 Braided Lightning Cable Shown Off In Photos

The problem with official accessories is that they can be pretty expensive. Take Apple’s Lightning cable for example, there are much cheaper options out there, and for the price you pay, you would think that Apple would offer a much better quality product, especially since the Lightning cable is known to fray and has reportedly caused electrocutions in the past.

However, the good news is that Apple could change that this year with the iPhone 12 where thanks to new photos posted on Twitter b y Mr-White, it shows what is allegedly a braided Lightning to USB-C cable for the upcoming iPhone 12. This is actually not the first time we’ve heard about this, but the constant leaks are starting to suggest that it could be true.

Apple is rumored to not include a power adapter with its iPhones this year (and future iPhones as well), so we guess the “upgrade” to a more durable cable is some consolation. However, the USB-C end is a bit concerning. This is because not everyone necessarily has a USB-C power outlet, especially if you’re coming from an older iPhone like the iPhone X or iPhone XS series.

This means that for these users, they would need to spend more money getting a new power adapter from Apple, which once again does not come cheap. In any case, take it with a grain of salt but with Apple rumored to officially announce their new iPhones in October, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for the details.

Amazon’s New Echo Show Comes With A Motorized Swivel

In addition to announcing the new Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, Amazon has also taken the wraps off their brand new Echo Show. For those unfamiliar, the Echo Show is an Alexa-enabled smart display where it will come with all the features you might expect from an Alexa-enabled device, with the added bonus of having a display so that you can use it to watch videos.

So what’s changed from the previous version? The new Echo Show will now come with a motorized swivel base. What this means is that the smart display can now track the user and will swivel around on its base automatically so that the display will always be facing the user. This might come in handy in the kitchen if you’re walking about grabbing ingredients while you watch a recipe video, or if you’re on a video call and are moving around.

If you’re concerned about privacy, Amazon points out that the Echo Show’s recognition is not based on faces, but rather on human figures. It will also do all of the AI processing required to make these recognitions on the device itself, not in the cloud, so you don’t have to worry about Amazon storing it on their servers.

Users who are still concerned about this can always disable the motion tracking feature if they want. There is also a built-in mechanical shutter that users can use to cut off access to the camera for added privacy. The new Echo Show is priced at $250 and is expected to be released in time for the holidays.
