Amazon Debuts Its ‘Luna’ Game Streaming Service

Last year, it was reported that Amazon was apparently thinking about getting into the game streaming business, and sure enough they have. The company has recently announced Luna, its attempt at launching a game streaming platform, following in the footsteps of other platforms like NVIDIA’s GeForce Now, Microsoft’s xCloud, and Google Stadia.

However, it won’t be the same as these other services. Unlike Stadia where you have to pay to play individual titles, Luna will follow a similar concept as xCloud where you pay a flat subscription fee and get access to an entire library of games. However, even then it will differ from xCloud where Amazon will be launching individual “channels” for partner publishers.

One of the partnered publishers is Ubisoft, where users can choose to subscribe to that channel in order to access specific Ubisoft titles. Alternatively, they can also subscribe to the Luna+ channel which comes with its own games. For now it seems that each channel might have its own limitations/requirements, for example the Luna+ channel supports up to 2 devices at once, while the Ubisoft channel only supports one device at a time.

Luna+ is priced at $5.99 a month, which Amazon notes is its introductory price. There is no word on how much the Ubisoft channel subscription will cost. Luna is currently in early access so it isn’t open to everyone just yet, and it is also only available in the US for now. For those interested in getting early access, head on over to Luna’s website to request for an invitation (not guaranteed).

Amazon Echo Gets A Brand New Spherical Makeover

If you thought that the design for Amazon’s Echo and Echo Dot speakers were a little dated, then you might be interested to learn that the company has since taken the wraps off a brand new design for its Alexa-enabled speakers. As you can see in the photo above, Amazon has decided to give it a makeover, resulting in a spherical design.

According to Amazon, with the new Echo, they have decided to combine both the Echo and Echo Plus features into a single unit, while keeping it at the price of an Echo. Both the new Echo and Echo Dot will feature the use of a fabric finish and will also sport an LED light ring at the bottom to give it an underglow-like effect.

One of the main differences between the Echo and Echo Dot would be the size of the speakers, where the Echo will come with a 3-inch woofer and dual-firing tweeters, while the Echo Dot will come with a single 1.6-inch front-firing speaker. Given that these are Alexa-enabled speakers at their core, it also means that save for the new design, they’ll still be able to do everything Alexa can do.

The brand new Echo will be priced at $100 while the Echo Dot will retail for $50. Both are scheduled for a release on the 22nd of October, but they are available for pre-order now.

Amazon Has A Crazy New Ring Security Camera That Has A Built-In Drone

Due to the fact that home security cameras are becoming cheaper, easier to install, and easier to use, it’s not surprising that more people are starting to use them. For the most part, they get the job done, but who’s to say that it cannot be improved upon? That’s what Amazon is trying to do with its latest Ring home security camera.

Dubbed the Ring Always Home Cam, this is a home security camera that actually comes with a drone built into it. Yes, you read that right. This security camera has a tiny drone that can fly out from its dock upon command, meaning that instead of getting multiple cameras to cover multiple areas, you can just use one to fly to specific areas you want to take a look at.

The best part is that this also addresses some privacy concerns about always-on cameras. The dock itself does not have a camera and the camera is built into the drone. This means that when the drone is docked, the dock blocks the camera so that even if it is recording, it won’t be able to capture any video.

The drone is fully autonomous, but users can set a path to fly if they wish. Users will be asked to help build a map for the drone when they first set it up, so that the drone will know about specific areas like your kitchen, bedroom, and so on. The Ring Always Home Cam will be priced at $250 and will be released in 2021.
