Google’s Chromecast is an easy way for users to sort of turn their TVs into smart TVs, where as long as your TV has a HDMI port, you can plug it in and run apps from a phone or computer and mirror it on your TV. However, for the most part, Chromecast was usually about mirroring the screen on another device.
Google wasn’t satisfied with that and has since announced a new Chromecast with Google TV. With this new Chromecast device, it actually comes with the Google TV platform built into it. This will truly turn your existing TV into a smart TV that runs on Google TV, thus allowing you to access apps and more. In a way, you could look at this as Google’s answer to the Apple TV.
According to Google, “The new Chromecast with Google TV comes in a compact and thin design and is packed with the latest technology to give you the best viewing experience. It neatly plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and tucks behind your screen. Power it on and you’ll be streaming crystal-clear video in up to 4K HDR at up to 60 frames per second in no time.”
There will also be an accompanying remote control, something that users have apparently been asking for. The remote also comes with a microphone which allows you to summon Google Assistant. The new Chromecast with Google TV is priced at $49.99 and is currently available for purchase in the US.

The Google Photos app is a great app for backing up your photos to the cloud. It also does a decent job at editing your images, although it did feel a bit basic compared to some other apps out there. However, alongside the announcement of the new Pixel smartphones, Google has also announced an update to Google Photos that turns it into a much more compelling editing app.
In the new update to the app, Google has utilized machine learning to help make editing a lot easier and smarter. According to Google, “These suggestions help you get stunning results in just one tap, by intelligently applying features like brightness, contrast and portrait effects.” Users can even make further edits to get the look that they want.
In addition to machine learning-based edits, Google is also adding more granular controls to the app. This will allow users to make further adjustments to the photo, such as the brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, and more, and all of this will be in a new layout that will make it easier for users to discover these controls.
There will also be a new feature that will initially debut with the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 that comes in the form of Portrait Light, where Google will once again leverage machine learning to improve the lighting conditions in a photo taken in portrait mode.
