While Apple’s Face ID pretty much works as advertised, there are times when using one’s fingerprint is much more efficient. This has led to some wondering if Apple could potentially implement both solutions in future iPhones. While Touch ID did not return in the iPhone 12, it has been rumored that this is a feature Apple is still looking to bring back.
This is according to a tweet by leakster @L0vetodream who claims that an under-display Touch ID for the iPhone is still a possibility. Given that we know next to nothing about the iPhone 13 at the moment, we suppose it is safe to speculate that perhaps the feature could eventually find its way to 2021’s iPhone.
An in-display fingerprint sensor isn’t new and we’ve seen various Android handset makers utilize it in their devices. However, we know that Apple isn’t really one to hop on a bandwagon for the sake of it, so perhaps Apple is coming up with their own solution that could be better or offer a unique take on the feature.

This is also not the first time we’re hearing about an under-display Touch ID for the iPhone. Previously, there was a report from Bloomberg that claimed that such a feature could debut as early as 2021’s iPhone. Take it with a grain of salt, but since Apple rarely confirms or speaks on rumors, we’ll just have to wait and see.

It would seem that unlike Apple’s flagship iPhone models, the company does not have plans to refresh its iPhone SE series on an annual basis. A tweet by Ross Young of DisplaySearch and DSCC, he claims that the earliest we might be able to expect an iPhone SE refresh would be in 2022.
To be fair, this seems to be roughly in line with how Apple has approached the iPhone SE in the past. The first-gen iPhone SE initially debuted in 2016 and it took Apple four years before they introduced a new model, which came earlier this year. This suggests that Apple isn’t necessarily looking to make the iPhone SE a yearly thing.
We’re not sure why Apple isn’t too keen on refreshing the iPhone SE annually, but perhaps it could be due to costs or maybe even availability of components. The 2020 iPhone SE uses the A13 chipset which debuted in 2019’s iPhones. It is safe to assume that the next iPhone SE could also use the next previous-gen chipset, the A14.
Like DSCC, Mizuho Securities also says no new iPhone SE model in 2021, have to wait till 2022. They do say all iPhone 13 models will have integrated touch, BOE will join LGD on both 6.1″ models, mini and 13 will adopt 12 Pro Max camera sensors, & sensor size will increase on Pro. pic.twitter.com/G9f6cz8dm0

However, the A14 not only powers the 2020 iPhones, but the iPads, and it is also expected to power Apple’s new Apple Silicon Mac computers, so perhaps there aren’t enough components to go around. It is possible that Apple could be waiting for the release of the A15 before reusing the A14 for the iPhone SE.
This is just speculation on our part, but if you wanted to get your hands on a budget iPhone, then the current iPhone SE is pretty much your only option, unless you don’t mind waiting until 2022.

Agility Robotics has announced a $20 million funding round for a robot that looks like a Greek myth crossed with a cyberpunk fever dream. The robot, called Digit, is designed to work alongside meat humans in environments where people congregate but that might be difficult for robots to manage.
As many of you have heard, Microsoft has acquired ZeniMax, which in turn also meant that they acquired Bethesda. This has put the future of the company’s games in question because if a company like Microsoft who owns the Xbox platform were to acquire a developer, wouldn’t they want to make certain games exclusive to themselves?
During an interview with Kotaku, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer was asked about the acquisition and was posed a question about if Microsoft would be able to recoup their $7.5 billion investment in the company if a game like the Elder Scrolls VI were to be exclusive to the Xbox/Windows platform.
According to Spencer, he replied in the affirmative. However, the executive added, “This deal was not done to take games away from another player base like that. Nowhere in the documentation that we put together was: ‘How do we keep other players from playing these games?’ We want more people to be able to play games, not fewer people to be able to go play games.”
While Spencer does not directly confirm that the Elder Scrolls VI will be exclusive to Microsoft, he does point out that Microsoft has multiple platforms that they can already distribute to that would allow them to potentially sell enough copies to recoup their investment. We suppose we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, which could be a while since the Elder Scrolls VI will not be arriving anytime soon.
