Apple Chose Not To Include A 120Hz Display In The iPhone 12 Because Of Battery Life

It is almost safe to assume that the iPhone 12 this year will not come with a 120Hz display. It is rather disappointing given that many other Android phones are starting to use 90Hz displays or higher, so it is strange that Apple is choosing not to include the technology given how popular it is.

However, Apple has never really been one to bow to convention, and a new report from Jon Prosser has suggested that the main reason why is because of battery life. Prosser’s tweet claims that Apple’s hardware was more than capable of supporting 120Hz displays, but apparently battery life was terrible as a result.

This isn’t to say that 5G is better in terms of battery efficiency, but it seems like it was perhaps the lesser of two evils. It is also possible that 5G would offer more tangible gains compared to a 120Hz display, where some might not even be able to tell the difference. Of course, it’s hard to say if these claims are accurate, but given that the iPhone’s battery life is usually rather contentious, we suppose Apple doesn’t really need to give people more reasons to criticize its products.

In the meantime, we have heard that the iPhone 12’s battery life is expected to be slightly better than its predecessors, where the Pro models (the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max) could come with batteries that last up to 1 hour longer compared to 2019’s iPhones.

Apple Watch Helped A Man Call For Help Following Car Crash

We have heard stories about how the Apple Watch has saved many a life thanks to features like its built-in heart rate monitor, but there are also other safety features that might not necessarily get covered too much, like its built-in SOS feature which recently helped a man call for help following a car crash.

According to the report from NBC24, a volunteer firefighter by the name of Hunter Sanner was involved in a car accident, where upon impact with another car, his airbags deployed and his phone was sent flying. Naturally being in an accident, Sanner was left dazed but still somehow managed to use his Apple Watch and use the SOS feature to call for help.

According to Sanner, it seems that help arrived in minutes along with his wife Laurel. This is thanks to the watch’s SOS feature that not only called 911, but also sent alerts to Sanner’s emergency contacts like his wife, giving them his exact location so they knew where to find him. It does not mention how serious the injuries were as a result of the accident, but Sanner is crediting his watch for helping him to call for help quickly.

He was quoted as saying, “A lot of people don’t know that that is an option, and it’s something very important that could save somebody’s life honestly.”

Man In Nevada Gets Infected With The Coronavirus Twice

When it comes to illnesses, in some cases when you catch a virus, your body then builds up the immunity to it, meaning that you catching it the second time is relatively low. However, it doesn’t necessarily seem to be that way with the coronavirus, where it has been revealed that a 25-year old man from Nevada actually managed to catch the coronavirus twice.

In a case study published in The Lancet, it was reported that the man had initially contracted the virus in April and suffered from symptoms like cough and nausea. He eventually made a recovery and tested negative in May, where it was suggested that he was in the clear. However, by the end of May, it seems that he caught the virus again and this time round, it was much more serious and ended up in an urgent care center.

This re-infection would make him the fifth person in the world to do so, and the second person in the world where the re-infection was actually worse than the first. This has led some to question the efficacy of a vaccine, especially if it seems that it is possible for people to not only get re-infected, but end up being worse than the first time round.

However, there is still a lot about the virus’ nature that we do not know about yet. Some scientists have speculated that it is possible that the reason the second round of symptoms was worse was because of exposure to higher levels of the virus. Alternatively, it has been suggested that maybe the body’s immune response could actually have made it worse rather than better.

Secretlab And Blizzard Team Up For World Of Warcraft Gaming Chairs

If you’re a huge World of Warcraft fan and would love to show your allegiance to either the Horde or the Alliance, you’re in luck because it seems that Blizzard has teamed up with Secretlab for World of Warcraft themed gaming chairs where they are decorated and themed around the Horde and Alliance factions.

For those unfamiliar, Secretlab is a company based in Singapore that makes gaming chairs. The company has made themed gaming chairs in the past for various eSports teams and games, so this collaboration doesn’t really come as a surprise, although it is possibly one of their biggest collabs to date.

The chairs will be offered in either a Horde or Alliance theme, where the Horde chair will be decked out in a red and black finish, while the Alliance chair is given a blue and gold finish. This will be applicable to both Secretlab’s Omega and Titan series of gaming chairs, where the latter has been designed for bigger and taller gamers.

Apart from the theme, both chairs are similar to their non-World of Warcraft counterparts and will feature the use of Secretlab’s PRIME 2.0 PU leather finishes, 4D armrests, full-length backrest recline, and integrated adjustable lumbar support. The chairs are priced starting at $449 for the Omega model, and $489 for the Titan model.

These Earphones Can Track Your Facial Expressions

We get that sometimes you’d rather not be on webcam during a conference call. Maybe you’re embarrassed because your home is messy, or maybe you just want a modicum of privacy, but sometimes, having face-to-face conversations is better because you can see a person’s facial expression and make the call feel a bit more personal.

However, thanks to the researchers at Cornell University, they have created a pair of earphones that when worn, seems to be capable of tracking your facial expressions. This means that in theory, you could create a digital avatar to be used in a game or a video call to represent you, in which the avatar can then mimic the facial expressions that you give off.

Dubbed C-Face, these earphones can detect facial expressions based on the muscles you move in your face. The earphones will consist of two RGB cameras that capture red and green bands of light so that when you move your facial muscles, the light will change, which in turn will be interpreted by the camera to determine what kind of expression you are making.

While capturing expressions aren’t new, they are typically achieved by pasting sensors on the user’s face, which might not be practical for home use, so these earphones are a slightly more convenient solution.
