Apple Launches Affiliate Program For Podcast Subscriptions

During Apple’s Spring Loaded event back in April, the company took the wraps off a new podcasts subscription program. Unlike Apple Music or the Apple One subscription service, these podcast subscriptions are up to the discretion of creators, meaning that Apple is simply giving them the tools to help them monetize their content if they choose.

Now it looks like Apple will be expanding on that by announcing an affiliate program for podcast subscriptions. For those unfamiliar, affiliate programs aren’t new. Companies like Amazon have them where if you click an affiliate Amazon link and you purchase the item, the person whose link you clicked will get a small commission, and this is more or less the premise here.

In this case, Apple will be giving users a 50% commission if the person they referred converts to a paid subscriber. So for example if a podcast creator is charging $10 a month to subscribe, and someone clicks your affiliate link and they subscribe, you’ll be getting $5. Apple is actually encouraging creators and publishers to use these links because it will be additional revenue on top of the subscription that they get.

The affiliate program will be available to anyone in the 170 countries where Apple will eventually launch podcasts subscription, so head on over to Apple’s website if you’d like to find out how to become a member.

Belkin’s Adapter Gives Standard Speakers AirPlay 2 Capabilities

When it comes to audio products like speakers or headphones, there are people who prefer convenience like having wireless speakers or headphones, but then there are also some people who believe that wired speakers or headphones offer up much better audio quality. If you’re in the latter but would like to have the best of both worlds, you’re in luck.

This is because Belkin has taken the wraps off their latest accessory – the Belkin Soundform Connect. This is an adapter that when connected to a pair of regular wired speakers, will give them AirPlay 2 capabilities. This means that if you have a fancy hi-fi system setup in your home that you’d like to use it together with your phone, this will make it possible.

We’ve already seen accessories that can give speakers Bluetooth connectivity and those are pretty normal and common, but it’s not that common to find adapters that give AirPlay 2 connectivity. One of the reasons you might want to opt for this over cheaper Bluetooth adapters is that you could use it to gain multi-room support with other AirPlay 2 speakers, plus you can also use it together with Siri for playback control.

The Belkin Soundform Connect will work with any powered speaker and connects through either its optical port or the 3.5mm jack. If you’re interested, it is available for pre-order via Belkin’s website for $100.

Cryptocurrency Transactions Valued Over $10,000 Will Have To Be Reported To The IRS

One of the reasons why cryptocurrency has been gaining so much interest and attention is due to the fact that it isn’t made or owned by any government, which makes tracking it and regulating it difficult, but this doesn’t mean that governments won’t try. In fact, the US Treasury Department has recently announced new rules regarding cryptocurrency transactions.

According to the announcement, transactions made with cryptocurrency valued over $10,000 will now have to be reported to the IRS. This is because there is a growing concern that cryptocurrency can and will be used for illegal activity, such as tax evasion.

The US Treasury Department says, “Within the context of the new financial account reporting regime, cryptocurrencies and cryptoasset exchange accounts and payment service accounts that accept cryptocurrencies would be covered. Further, as with cash transactions, businesses that receive cryptoassets with a fair market value of more than $10,000 would also be reported on.”

In a way it is kind of ironic that a currency designed to be unregulated is slowly becoming more regulated, but if you do hold a fair amount of cryptocurrency, these new rules are definitely worth paying attention to if you don’t want to find yourself in trouble with the IRS. The US isn’t alone in trying to regulate the technology. Over in China, the government has banned financial institutions from conducting business involving cryptocurrency.
