Nintendo Switch Online now boasts 104 classic games on its list

Unlike Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo has never been big on backward compatibility, preferring that people buy their hardware and games if they’re still around. Of course, its oldest consoles no longer are and it has found a way to capitalize on that with its Switch Online subscription service that grants access to classic NES and SNES titles that … Continue reading

Watch Dogs: Legion For PS5, Xbox Series X Will Get A Performance Mode

Watch Dogs: Legion was released last year and if you haven’t played it but were planning on doing so with a next-gen console, then this might be good news for you. This is because Ubisoft has announced that they will be introducing a new mode to the game in the form of a performance boost.

This is done so that gamers on next-gen consoles like that of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X will be able to enjoy the game by taking advantage of their hardware. This will basically bump up the frame rates that gamers can get from the game up to 60 fps. For those needing a bit of context, the game was previously locked at 30 fps despite it being called a game designed for next-gen consoles, so this update is actually very much welcome.

While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with playing games at 30 fps, 60 fps does make the game feel a lot smoother and more pleasant, which could encourage gamers who didn’t buy the game to buy it. Watch Dogs: Legion won’t be the only game Ubisoft will be giving a performance mode. Other games by the company such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Rainbow Six Siege were also given similar performance mode updates.

Google And Samsung Team Up To Revamp Wear OS

A recent rumor has made claims that for Samsung’s next smartwatch, instead of using Tizen, Samsung could instead be turning to Google’s Wear OS. It seems like the rumors were kind of right, except that this is more than just Samsung using Google’s wearable platform. At I/O 2021, Google announced a partnership with Samsung that would essentially overhaul Wear OS.

According to Google, this will essentially merge Wear OS and Tizen into a single unified platform, which will combine what made both operating systems great. This will result in faster launching apps, a smoother user interface, better battery life, and also making it easier for developers to create apps for the platform.

“For performance, our teams collaborated and made apps start up to 30% faster on the latest chipsets with smooth user interface animations and motion. To achieve longer battery life, we’ve worked to optimize the lower layers of the operating system – taking advantage of low-power hardware cores to enable better battery life. That includes handy optimizations like the ability to run the heart rate sensor continuously during the day, track your sleep overnight and still have battery for the next day. Finally, our unified platform will make it easier for developers to build great apps for the watch. “

It’s actually rather interesting to see this collaboration, especially since Wear OS definitely could have stood for some improvement, while Tizen could definitely have benefited from being more visible. Perhaps with this collaboration, we might see smartwatches that will be able to better challenge the likes of the Apple Watch.

Microsoft Confirms That Development On Windows 10X Is Dead

A couple of weeks ago, it was rumored that Microsoft might have killed off development on Windows 10X. For those who are unfamiliar, Windows 10X started out as a variant of Windows 10 designed for dual screened devices, like the Surface Neo. Microsoft later shifted their focus to single screen devices.

Now it looks like the rumors were true because according to an announcement by Microsoft, Windows 10X is officially dead. “Following a year-long exploration and engaging in conversations with customers, we realized that the technology of Windows 10X could be useful in more ways and serve more customers than we originally imagined. We concluded that the 10X technology shouldn’t just be confined to a subset of customers.”

Instead, Microsoft says that they’ll be taking what they developed and learnt from Windows 10X and implement it into future Windows 10 updates. The company also says that they’ve already done some of this, “In fact, some of this is already reflected in the core of Windows in Windows Insider preview builds, for example the new app container technology we’re integrating into products like Microsoft Defender Application Guard, an enhanced Voice Typing experience, and a modernized touch keyboard with optimized key sizing, sounds, colors and animations.”

It is a pity that Windows 10X will never see the light of day, but maybe it was for the better. Windows 10 has already been very well-received and we’re sure that Microsoft probably doesn’t want to tarnish their record.
