Xiaomi, one of China’s high-profile tech firms that fell in the crosshairs of the Trump administration, has been removed from a U.S. government blacklist that designated it as a Communist Chinese Military Company.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has vacated the Department of Defence’s designation of Xiaomi as a CCMC in January, a document filed on May 25 shows.
In February, Xiaomi sued the U.S. government over its inclusion in the military blacklist. In March, the D.C. court granted Xiaomi a preliminary injunction against the DoD designation, which would have forbidden all U.S. persons from purchasing or possessing Xiaomi’s securities, saying the decision was “arbitrary and capricious.” The ruling was made to prevent “irreparable harm” to the Chinese phone maker.
Xiaomi has this to say about getting off the blacklist:
The Company is grateful for the trust and support of its global users, partners, employees and shareholders. The Company reiterates that it is an open, transparent, publicly traded, independently operated and managed corporation. The Company will continue to provide reliable consumer electronics products and services to users, and to relentlessly build amazing products with honest prices to let everyone in the world enjoy a better life through innovative technology.
Xiaomi’s domestic competitor Huawei is still struggling with its inclusion in the U.S. trade blacklist, which bans it from accessing critical U.S. technologies and has crippled its smartphone sales around the world.
Although every high-end smartphone can be used for gaming, gaming smartphones really push the envelope when it comes to performance. They also often employ gimmicks to aid gaming, from extra buttons to unconventional cooling systems. As far as those go, the ASUS ROG Phone 5 pulls the stops when it comes to that without going overboard in gimmicks. Now it’s … Continue reading

According to the rumors, Apple is expected to introduce a brand new design for its upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro. The design the company has been using is kind of old, and the only changes Apple has made was to remove some ports and add a new color option, but otherwise it feels largely unchanged.
We have no idea how the new MacBook Pro could look like, but based on Apple’s design language in the recent years, we expect flatter edges like the iPad Pro. To give us a better idea of how the laptop could look like, designer Antonio De Rosa has cooked up some concept renders that were created based on the leaks and rumors so far.
Assuming that the actual laptop looks something like this, then color us impressed. It looks very sleek, like a more refined version of the current models, and it also seems that De Rosa has added extra ports that are rumored to be making a comeback, including the SD card reader which was unfortunately removed.
In terms of when the new laptops will be announced, the most recent rumor claims that it could actually take place at WWDC. This would be out of character as Apple usually skips hardware at WWDC, but it’s not entirely out of the question, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Last week, images of Apple’s upcoming Beats Studio Buds were discovered, cluing us into the fact that Apple could be working on new Beats branded earphones. Just recently, the earbuds were spotted at the FCC where diagrams of the earbuds were pictured, and now thanks to MySmartPrice, actual photos of the earbuds have leaked online.
Unfortunately, the photos don’t show us the entire design of the earbuds, but rather the underside. The way the photos are taken it looks like it could have been part of some kind of regulatory filing, but it does seem to match the renders and diagrams that we have seen so far, so the rumors and leaks are at the very least consistent with each other.
There is still no word on when they will be announced, but given the frequency of the leaks, it would suggest that it could be close at hand. Apple is hosting its WWDC 2021 conference soon where the new MacBook Pro could be announced, so it is possible that Apple could use the event to announce these new earbuds.
It has been a while since we’ve seen a brand new lineup from the Apple-owned Beats brand, so it will be interesting to see where the Beats Studio Buds will fall in and how it compares to Apple’s other earbuds like the AirPods and AirPods Pro.

There are many questions as to how the world will reopen once the pandemic has passed. Right now the issue is that vaccines don’t last very long, and reopening the borders for tourism and business might prove tricky if people don’t keep up to date with their vaccines, plus it would be very inconvenient and could be a deterrent if passengers were forced to undergo quarantines everytime they go to a new place.
So perhaps dogs could be our answer. A recent study has found that people who are infected with COVID-19 give off a distinct odor that properly trained dogs can sniff out in under a second. What this means is that these dogs could be deployed at places like an airport where they can identify people who give off that odor.
This could help ease travel restrictions where if the dog doesn’t smell anything on you, you’re free to go, but if the dog thinks you have something, you could then be given a PCR test for confirmation and maybe put under quarantine. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this as back in 2020, it was revealed that dogs were being trained for this purpose. Countries such as Finland have also tested it out at their airports.
However, whether or not this will become the new norm remains to be seen, but it is a possibility. In the meantime, the Singapore government has recently approved a breath test which can be used to detect for COVID-19 which could be an alternative way of screening people coming into the country.

Apple’s launch of its M1 Silicon and the following M1 Macs and iPad Pros has definitely raised questions about Intel’s future in the personal computing space. Arm-based computers, not just phones, have suddenly become more interesting but their numbers and performance, especially on the Windows side, haven’t exactly been that impressive. Some might say that Arm processors still have a … Continue reading

Apple’s Mac mini hasn’t really changed much in terms of design. For the most part it has been this square metal box, which is fine because it gets the job done, but according to Jon Prosser in his latest video, he claims that the next-gen Mac mini with the M1X chipset will come with a new industrial design.
According to Prosser, this new design is said to include features like a plexiglass-like surface on top of the computer. Apparently this could be part of Apple’s strategy to allow them to create two-toned color options for the Mac mini, making it similar to the 24-inch iMac which launched in a multitude of colors.
It will also see Apple bring back a wider range of ports which includes USB-C and USB-A ports, Ethernet, and HDMI out. It will also come with a new power port that will use the same magnetic system as the new 24-inch iMac.
While Apple’s Mac mini has never really been seen as a powerful computer, having more ports does make it a bit more versatile. It is a good alternative to those who want a Mac but don’t want to pay too much for it. There’s no word on when this new Mac mini will be announced, so we’ll just have to wait and see if there will be any announcements made at WWDC 2021.
