Razer’s Raptor Gaming Monitor Gets A Refresh

Back in 2019, Razer announced their first gaming monitor in the form of the Razer Raptor. It was a 27-inch monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate, something that you might expect from a gaming monitor. However, we are in 2021 and demands and expectations have changed, so a refresh to the monitor did not come as a surprise.

At E3 2021, Razer announced an update to the Raptor monitor. For the most part, it seems that Razer hasn’t really done much in terms of design, but one notable upgrade would be the refresh rate which was bumped from 144Hz to 165Hz. It is slightly faster and unless you’re a professional gamer or someone who has the cash to splash, if you own the previous model we’re not sure if you’ll need to upgrade.

This is because apart from the bump in refresh rate, everything else seems to be identical. However, there is the addition of THX certification which means that the monitor has been tested hundreds of times to meet certain quality standards, and there is also a VESA adapter if you want to mount it on the wall, but otherwise, visually it looks the same as the previous model.

It is, however, $100 more expensive than the first-gen Raptor monitor, bringing its price up to $800. If you’re fine with that price, then head on over to Razer’s website for the details on how to pre-order.

Google Could Have A New Pixel Stand For The Pixel 6

Some of you might recall that back when Google launched the Pixel 3, the company also launched an accessory for the handset in the form of the Pixel Stand. This was basically an upright wireless charger that also came with some additional features exclusive to the Pixel phones.

That being said, it is a bit long in the tooth so it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Google could be readying a new model. This is according to 9to5Google’s Dylan Roussel who when poking around the Android 12 Beta 2 code, discovered references made to a new Made by Google wireless charger, leading them to speculate that this could indeed be a new Pixel Stand.

In addition to the original Pixel Stand being a bit old since it was launched in 2018, other reasons to think it could be the successor is the fact that the original Pixel Stand charges at a glacial 10W. This is versus other more modern wireless chargers that can charge much faster, so for Google to update the accessory would make sense.

What’s interesting is that with this new model, it seems that Google could be building fans inside of it, which presumably would help keep the accessory cool while it charges the phone. Companies like OnePlus already use fans in their chargers, so this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. The Pixel 6 is expected to be launched later this year with a brand new design, and now it looks like we could see new accessories launch alongside it as well.

Razer’s Project Hazel Mask Will Be Launching In The Fourth Quarter This Year

While vaccines for the coronavirus are being rolled out across the world and suggests that life could return to normal soon enough, if there is one thing the pandemic has taught us is to be more vigilant about our hygiene and also the possibility of airborne viruses. For some, this could mean wearing masks even when the pandemic eventually passes.

Razer is aware of this and they have announced that its Project Hazel mask will be officially launching in the fourth quarter of 2021. Now, before you get too excited, Project Hazel will be released in “drops” and in limited quantities and will be exclusive to its website. Presumably the idea is to use the drops to gauge interest in it before the company starts making more units.

For those unfamiliar, Project Hazel was actually announced earlier this year at CES. It is a futuristic mask that comes with features like built-in fans and RGB lighting, along with the usual filters that help keep out airborne particles and fluids. It was initially viewed as a concept of what a future could look like where masks could become more sophisticated, but Razer later said that they do have plans to make it a reality.

The company still hasn’t mentioned how much its Project Hazel mask could cost, but if you are interested, you can sign up to be notified when it is eventually released.
