macOS Monterey Will Let Other Macs Double As An External Display

Back in 2009, Apple introduced a feature called Target Display Mode that essentially allowed an iMac to be used by another Mac as an external display. The feature eventually retired in 2014, but it seems that with macOS Monterey, Apple might have revived it to a certain extent in a different form.

This is because with macOS Monterey, Apple will once again allow users to use Macs as an external display for another Mac. However, this will depend on the Mac model as only eligible models can be used in this way, but presumably the newer models should be able to take advantage of this.

This will work over either a wired connection for the best possible latency, or AirPlay if you don’t mind some latency. This would almost be similar to Sidecar which allows an iPad to act as a secondary display for Mac computers. However, as MacRumors has been informed, using AirPlay might not necessarily be the best idea because of compression and latency, but in a pinch it should be fine.

AirPlay to Mac will be compatible on 2018 or later MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros, and 2019 or later iMacs, iMac Pro, Mac Pros, and the 2020 Mac mini.

Facebook Could Be Developing A Smartwatch With A Detachable Display

Facebook has mostly been a software and services kind of company, but it seems that they aren’t quite done with their hardware ambitions just yet because according to a report from The Verge, Facebook is apparently working on a smartwatch that could debut next summer and it could sport an interesting design.

This is because according to the report, the Facebook smartwatch could actually come with a detachable display with two built-in cameras, meaning that in addition to being a smartwatch, Facebook envisions users using the smartwatch as a photography tool of sorts, or maybe even some kind of impromptu video calling setup. After all, the company did launch its Portal video conferencing system, so this doesn’t seem like a stretch of the imagination.

As for the cameras, the one on the front is said to be primarily used for video calls, while the one on the back will be capable of capturing 1080p footage. Facebook is also said to be in discussions with other companies to help create accessories for the watch when detached, like maybe a way to attach it onto a backpack.

Facebook has in the past attempted hardware when they collaborated with HTC on a Facebook phone, but that kind of flopped. The company has since expanded to other products like VR headsets and its Portal system. We’re not sure how well-received a Facebook smartwatch would be, so we’ll have to wait and see.

iOS 15 Will Let You Stop Awkward Photos From Showing Up In Your Photos Memories

Similar to how Facebook reminds users to posts or photos they made on a certain day from a certain number of years ago, iOS has such a feature too in the form of Memories. It’s great if you want to reminisce about the good old days, but what if there are awkward photos like maybe a breakup from two years ago?

While iOS is not a social network and your photos won’t be seen by anyone else, Apple is still trying to give users a bit more control over it. In iOS 15, Apple will allow users to remove people or photos from your Memories. It won’t delete the photos, but it will stop them from showing up to help you avoid awkward moments and painful memories.

This will come in the form of two new options – Remove from Feature Photos and Feature This Person Less. Both seem rather straightforward, although we’re not sure exactly how much less is “less” according to Apple, but it might be worth a shot if you’re hoping to never see that photo again (but still want to keep a copy of it anyway).

Prior to this, iOS 14 had the option to allow users to feature a day or place less, so this expands on that by allowing users to target specific photos and people who are tagged in those photos.
