Microsoft, Google Release Urgent Update That Patches Browser Vulnerability

If you are using either Microsoft Edge or Google’s Chrome, then you might want to update your browsers ASAP. This is because both companies have pushed out an urgent update for both their browsers due to a Level 4 Drive-by exploit that has been discovered that could lead to disastrous consequences.

Given that they have been given the Level 4 designation, what this means is that they are high impact exploits that are easy to pull off, which means that they could have the potential to easily affect many users without too much effort from the attackers.

According to the report from BSI, “Several vulnerabilities in Google Chrome and Microsoft Chrome-based Edge have been disclosed. An attacker can exploit this with unknown effects. To exploit it, it is sufficient to call up a maliciously designed website or to click a link to such a page.”

Given that both the new Edge and Chrome are built off the Chromium platform, it means that they are both equally vulnerable to the attack. The update should already be live and for some, you might be seeing the prompt that asks you to restart your browser to complete the update, so if you have a minute to spare, check for the update, install it, and restart your browser and you should be all set!

Apple Might Phase Out Intel Mac Mini With Upcoming M1X Mac Mini Launch

Last year, the Mac mini was among the first wave of Mac computers to undergo an M1 refresh and was among the first few Macs to be powered by the new M1 chipset. That being said, there have been rumors that Apple is planning another refresh and according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this model could see Apple phase out the Intel Mac mini in the process.

Right now, Apple sells both the Intel and M1 version of the Mac mini, with the Intel version being offered as an alternative for those who might need or prefer using a computer with Intel’s processors. However, this upcoming refresh could see Apple get rid of the Intel model for good. Apple did say they were planning on fully transitioning in the next couple of years, so in a way this is kind of to be expected.

Gurman also shared additional details about the alleged Mac mini refresh, where it is said to come with the M1X chipset and that it could also sport a redesign and come with additional ports. This is something we had previously heard as well, but it’s good that the rumors are corroborated and are consistent with each other.

There’s no word on when the computer is expected to be launched, but Apple is rumored to launch redesigned and new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros later this year, so there is a good chance this new Mac mini could be announced then as well.

LG Shares Progress On Its Development Of 6G

5G smartphones are becoming the norm these days and a phone without 5G support kind of raises eyebrows, but yet 5G connectivity isn’t the standard yet. While we are seeing the rollout of 5G networks, it isn’t quite as ubiquitous as we would like and we imagine it will probably be a couple of years before it becomes the new standard.

In the meantime, work on 6G has already begun and it seems to be progressing rather nicely, at least that’s what we think. This is because LG has announced what seems to be a new milestone in 6G development where they have managed to broadcast 6G at a brand new record distance of 100m.

No, you did not read that wrong, it is indeed 100m. To be fair, this was kind of to be expected at this stage of the development. This is because the problem with the THz frequencies that 6G will use is that their range is very limited and tend to lose a lot of power when passing through antennas.

An obvious solution to the problem would be to build more cellular towers, but that might not necessarily be feasible and not to mention costly, which is why LG is working with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics to create a power amplifier that can better target and direct wireless signals such as this.

Do keep in mind that 6G will not be rolling out anytime soon and that by the time it does, it should be a lot more impressive, or at least that’s the hope.

WhatsApp for iPad native app might be around the corner

Although they have experienced a resurgence in popularity and sales, there are still a number of popular apps that either don’t work natively on iPads are or don’t work properly. Instagram is the poster child of the latter with its suboptimal experience of Apple’s slates. WhatsApp, Facebook’s other social media property, isn’t following its sibling’s footsteps and might have a … Continue reading

iPhone in-screen Touch ID won’t be happening this year

There has been a great deal of fuss around in-screen or under-display sensors, most of which are designed to remove bezels or even cutouts from a display. The first to go was the fingerprint scanner, now followed by the front-facing camera. Apple has long abandoned the former, preferring to keep a wide notch to power its Face ID replacement to … Continue reading

The Walking Dead Season 11 Premiere Lurches Unsteadily to the Show's Finale

AMC has touted tonight’s premiere of The Walking Dead as “The Beginning of the End.” Technically, that’s true…but that’s about it. It’s not a bad episode of TWD, just a very middle-of-the-road one. After 10 seasons of wildly veering over that metaphorical, zombie-filled highway, that’s fine with me.

Fitbit Charge 5 leak reveals the big changes coming

After a rather awkward start, it seems that smartwatches have more or less become staple accessories these days. That said, some still prefer a less conspicuous but equally advanced wearable that can keep up with the most important things in their lives. Fitness trackers are still a thing, and Fitbit remains at the top of that market. Not everybody has … Continue reading
