Call of Duty is one of the most iconic first-person shooters in recent years, spanning multiple mainline sequels and a Modern Warfare spin-off that has branched into a franchise of its own. After that modern diversion, developers Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch are going back to the original WWII setting of the game with Call of Duty: Vanguard. While the launch … Continue reading

No In-Display Touch ID For The iPhone 13, Or Even Future iPhones

It has been several years since Apple removed Touch ID from its flagship lineup of iPhones. There have been rumors over the years that Apple could be looking to bring it back in the form of an in-display sensor, with the most recent rumors claiming that the iPhone 13 could be the one to bring it back.

Unfortunately, if that was one of the main reasons you’ve been holding out on the iPhone 13, you might be disappointed to learn that may no longer be happening. This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman where in the latest issue of his Power On newsletter, Gurman claims that Apple has scrapped plans to bring Touch ID to the iPhone 13.

In fact, he goes on to suggest that Apple might no longer be interested in bringing back Touch ID to its flagship iPhones, and that Apple will simply work on improving Face ID instead. Gurman claims that Apple has been testing displays that would support in-display Touch ID, but for whatever reason has opted not to push ahead with it.

He also goes on to state that he believes Apple is “all-in on Face ID”, which is also what Apple said from the start, and that future iterations of Face ID might come hidden in the display, which could be one of the ways of reducing or even hiding the notch.

Bethesda Officially Announces Quake Remaster For PC And Consoles

A few days ago, a schedule for Bethesda’s QuakeCon 2021 seemingly hinted at the company’s plans to launch a possible Quake remaster. The schedule was later edited where the mention of the game was removed. However, it turns out that the speculators had it right because Bethesda has since officially announced a remaster of the game.

Simply titled Quake, keeping true to the original game, the game will be remastered where it will now support 4K resolution along with enhanced visuals. For the most part it actually still looks a lot like the original, but less grainy and slightly more polished. That’s not a bad thing because there is that old school charm.

The remaster of the game will also feature support for cross-platform play, and speaking of which, it will be available on PC as well as consoles. This includes the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and will also be backwards compatible with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. There will also be a brand new expansion pack by Wolfenstein developer MachineGames.

According to Bethesda, gamers who bought Quake on Steam or through the Bethesda Launcher will automatically get the new version for free, if not you’ll be able to pick up a copy for $10.

Skyrim Is Getting Remastered For Next-Gen Consoles

It has been a decade since Skyrim was first launched. It is part of Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls franchise and it also seems to be the most popular one. While many are eagerly anticipating the sixth chapter in the series, it looks like Bethesda will continue to milk Skyrim for all its worth, thanks to an upcoming remaster of the game.

During QuakeCon 2021, the company has announced and confirmed that Skyrim will be re-released with next-gen upgrades for the Sony PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X consoles. It will feature upgraded graphics and will also come with a brand new feature in the game – fishing, something that gamers have actually been asking for.

This version of the game is known as the Anniversary Edition and to coincide with the game’s actual anniversary, it will be launched on the 11th of November later this year. This wouldn’t be the first time that Bethesda has re-released the game. Prior to this, Nintendo had teased the game’s availability on the Switch console, which later turned out to be true.

Bethesda is also not alone in trying to milk a classic. Even Rockstar’s GTA 5 which has been released multiple times and on multiple devices will also be making its way to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but we suppose given how fun these games are years down the road, we suppose it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Steve Jobs Email Reveals That The iPhone Nano Was A Real Thing

iPhone 4S ReviewApple’s iPhones have never been cheap, which is why many, many years ago back in 2011, there were rumors that Apple could be developing a handset called the iPhone nano. The device was rumored to be a smaller iPhone that would be more affordable compared to the iPhone 4, which was Apple’s flagship back then.

However, those rumors never came to pass, but as it turns out the rumors were actually true. As part of the Epic VS Apple lawsuit, The Verge spotted some emails, one of which was from Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, where the iPhone nano was mentioned in name. There were also references to a plan to create a low-cost iPhone model based on the iPod touch, but The Verge points out that it is unclear if this is related to the iPhone nano or a different phone.

That being said, the bad news is that apart from the mentioning of the name, not much else is known about the device. However, like we said, it does confirm the rumors back then, so there is some vindication for those who were adamant about the device’s existence.

That being said, we guess the iPhone SE series could be Apple’s answer to the iPhone nano. They are smaller compared to the flagship iPhones, and they are cheaper as well, so maybe it took Apple a little longer to get it to the market.

Google Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G Have Been Officially Discontinued

Just the other day, Google officially announced its brand new budget Pixel in the form of the Pixel 5a 5G. This handset essentially replaces last year’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, but if you were hoping that Google would be keeping both of the phones around and make them even cheaper, you might be disappointed.

This is because Google has announced that both the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G have been officially discontinued. Google’s decision is a bit odd because while the Pixel 4a 5G is replaced by the Pixel 5a 5G, the Pixel 5’s successor should be the Pixel 6, which should be announced in the coming month or two.

This means that discontinuing the Pixel 5 feels slightly premature on Google’s end, but we suppose that’s the current situation for now. That being said, while both phones are being discontinued, Google will continue to sell them and will continue to do so until they are out of stock.

Also, even if the company sells out, you will be able to find the phones from third-party retailers, but your luck may vary from retailer to retailer and how much inventory they have left, so you might want to move quickly if either phone appeals to you.

This Is How Much Fixing The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3 Will Cost You

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung officially announced their brand new foldable phones – the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Given that these phones are using foldable displays, whose tech is still relatively new compared to more traditional flat displays, repairing them seems like they would be expensive, but how expensive?

According to Samsung, an out of warranty repair for the folding screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will cost $479, while the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s display will cost $369. As for the external displays of the phones, which are the more traditional flat displays, it will cost $149 for the Fold and $99 for the Flip, which is honestly not too expensive.

Both phones will come with a one year warranty which is par for the course, but the company will also be offering a Samsung Care Plus program which costs $12.99 a month (for either phone) and should you need to repair the screen, it will cost $249 for an out of warranty repair, which is cheaper than what they would normally charge, although we guess the monthly subscription could possibly end up costing you more in the long run.

That being said, while the cost of repair is still expensive, it should be noted that it is actually cheaper than its predecessors, where the Galaxy Z Fold 2 cost $549 to repair while the Galaxy Z Flip 5G costs $499.

Dell Launches A New, Portable 14-inch Monitor

Dell has recently announced a brand new monitor, the 14-inch C1422H. Now, many would scoff at 14-inches since these days it’s not that hard to find a monitor around 27-inches that won’t break the bank, but chances are these aren’t the customers that Dell is targeting with this new monitor.

Instead, the company has positioned this monitor as being a portable monitor, so if for whatever reason you might need a portable secondary display when you’re out working on a laptop, this could be it. Priced at $350, it’s not exactly cheap. It features a Full HD IPS display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and comes with a built-in tilt stand that lets you adjust the angle of viewing.

It connects to a computer, either laptop or desktop, via USB-C. What this means is that you don’t need to find an external source to power the monitor as it can be powered through USB-C, plus there is also no need for a display cable like HDMI since that can be accomplished over USB-C as well.

The monitor’s peak brightness is at 300 nits and weighs just under two pounds. Given its size and weight, you should be able to slip it inside of a bag that can also fit your laptop, so if you ever need a secondary display when you’re out in the field, maybe this could be worth checking out.

WhatsApp Launches Public Beta Program For Its Desktop App

WhatsApp, like most apps, goes through beta testing. This is necessary because before they release the app to the public, they need to make sure that it works. After all, if they release an app or update to the masses and it doesn’t work or worse, breaks the app, it would be kind of disastrous.

The app already has betas for its mobile apps on iOS and Android, but now according to WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp is also working on bringing its public beta program for its desktop app as well. As many of you know, WhatsApp has a desktop app that lets users chat from their computers instead of having to constantly reach for their phones.

This beta program basically lets users participate in it so that they can try out new features ahead of everyone, as well as help WhatsApp figure out bugs and potential security vulnerabilities before it is released to the public. This beta will cover both the versions for Windows and macOS. If you’re interested, you can download the Windows version here or if you’re on macOS, you can download that version here.

Do note that since it’s a beta, you will encounter bugs and issues so maybe using it as your daily driver might not be the best idea.

This Electric Boat Motor Will Last You An ‘Almost Unlimited Lifetime’

One of the “annoying” things about a lot of machines is that from time to time, they require maintenance. This usually means having to disrupt your day or even your company’s operations to tend to it, but it is a necessity and something that most of us have probably grown accustomed to.

However, Swedish electric boat company Candela has come up with a new electric drive unit for boats that they’re calling the C-Pod. One of the main selling points of this new C-Pod is how little maintenance it requires. The company boasts that it has been designed to have an “almost unlimited lifetime” in terms of use.

They say that the drive unit has a long maintenance interval of 3,000 hours and there will be a lack of oil changes or other types of major upkeep. As the company’s CEO Gustav Hasselskog says, “For the average leisure boat user, this means you can just use the motor and forget about the usual hassle with service and winterization. The C-Pod will outlast you and probably your kids as well.”

As for the C-Pod’s performance, it will feature two electric motors, each with a counter rotating propeller that provides a combined power of 50kW per pod. The use of the counter rotating propellers also helps solve a problem with regular propellers, which when spun too fast can create air pockets and boils the water around it, which not only reduces efficiency, but in turn can damage the propeller over time.
