Fossil’s New Gen 6 Smartwatches Will Be Upgraded To Wear OS 3

If you’re shopping about for a new smartwatch, there’s something you’ll need to consider and that is whether or not that watch will be upgraded to Google and Samsung’s Wear OS 3 platform. The good news is that Fossil has since announced their brand new Gen 6 smartwatches.

These smartwatches will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset. According to Fossil, the use of the chipset means that users can look forward to faster loading times as well as support for fast-charging, where it can recharge the watch up to 80% in just half an hour.

There will also be continuous heart rate tracking, a new blood oxygenation sensor, and also a wellness app. That being said, it should be noted that the watches do not come with Wear OS 3 installed, simply because it isn’t available yet. However, the good news is that these watches will eventually be upgraded once the update is available, which is currently set for 2022

The new Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches will be available in a variety of designs, colors, and materials and will range in price. If you’re interested, they are available for pre-order via Fossil’s website where they are priced anywhere between $299 and $319, depending on the configuration you’ve chosen.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Be An Xbox Exclusive

It will probably be a few more years before Bethesda is ready to show what they have done with the Elder Scrolls 6. However, if a recent tweet by Jeff Grubb is to be believed, the game could be an exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox console, and we’re not talking about a timed exclusive but rather a permanent one.

Should this come as a surprise? Hardly. As you might recall, back in 2020 Microsoft announced that they would be buying Bethesda. This led to speculation that future Bethesda games would be exclusive to the Xbox platform (and PC), since it makes sense that Microsoft is hoping exclusive triple A titles would lure gamers to its Xbox platform.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines kind of hinted at this earlier this year, where it was also revealed that Starfield, Bethesda’s current project and focus, would be exclusive to the Xbox. Hines shared that he understood the frustration non-Xbox gamers are feeling, but there was nothing he could do, suggesting that it really is out of Bethesda’s hands.

Like we said, there’s no word on when the Elder Scrolls 6 will be released, but for now, it looks like the Elder Scrolls 5 will be the last game from the franchise that is available on multiple platforms.

Carbon Nanotubes Can Be Sewn Into Clothes To Make Them Smarter

The concept of smart clothing isn’t new. Companies like Google have explored the concept with Project Jacquard. However, the implementation seems rather basic, like performing gestures to interact with your phone, which while nifty feels a bit novel. However, what if smart clothing could be used for more advanced purposes, like gathering biometric data?

That being said, maybe this could be a problem that can be solved if the tech can be more tightly integrated into the clothing. This is what researchers at Rice University have done, where they have created conductive fibers using carbon nanotubes that are then sewn into the clothing itself.

As the nanotubes themselves are so small, the researchers had to bundle several of them together to get it to be around the same size as a regular thread, which then allowed them to use it with a sewing machine. When integrated into an athletic shirt, it allowed the shirt to gather data on the wearer like their heart rate, which means that maybe in the future, our clothes can gather biometric data without the need for chest straps or even smartwatches.

The researchers found that based on their initial tests, that the use of nanotubes allowed it to collect better data compared to a typical chest strap heart monitor, and was also comparable to that of electrode monitors. It might be a while before we see this tech become commercially available, but for now it shows a lot of promise.

Vivo X70 Pro camera details and Pro+ “mirror” leak out

Vivo is gearing up to flex its mobile photography muscles in just a few days, barely a year after it launched the Vivo X60 series. In contrast to the last two X flagships, however, it seems that the Vivo X70 will be a bit more low-key, preferring internal upgrades over spectacular features. The Vivo X70 Pro+, however, could be the … Continue reading

iPhone With Satellite Calling Might Not Arrive This Year

Recently, there was a report in which analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the iPhone 13 could come with satellite calling support. This means that even in the event you have no network coverage, you’ll still be able to make calls and send text messages, which will be handy in an emergency.

However, that might no longer be the case. In a new report from Bloomberg, it seems that sources familiar with the matter have told the publication that an iPhone with satellite calling support probably won’t come in 2021, and that it will be 2022 at the earliest that we can probably expect to see the feature.

The report also sheds some light on Apple’s plans for the feature, in which the company envisions it as being more for emergency uses only, as opposed to general communication. They even claim that there is a chance the feature could be changed or even scrapped entirely before it is announced.

This back and forth is a bit confusing as it’s hard to say who is right as both Kuo and Bloomberg’s sources are typically very accurate with their claims. Either way, the iPhone 13 is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, so we should have all the official details soon enough.

New Apple Watch Series 7 Renders Show Us What To Expect

We’ve seen renders of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 in the past that shows off the new design, but the folks at PhoneArena have since cobbled together a bunch of fresh renders that depicts them like how you might expect to see them if they were on Apple’s website, and we have to say that this renders do give us a better idea of what to expect.

We already know that the upcoming Series 7 will sport a brand new design. This design language will borrow from the iPad Pro and iPhone 12 which have ditched the curved edges in favor of something that’s flatter and sharper, and these renders show just that. We were a bit worried based on the previous renders that it might look too boxy, but these renders actually seem to make the watch look “better”, even though they are kind of the same thing.

Apart from that, these renders don’t really tell us what we don’t already know. The Series 7 will obviously come with various upgrades in terms of processor, but it is also rumored to be bigger where it will have 41mm and 45mm display options, up from 40mm and 44mm from the previous models.

There were initial reports about it packing a glucose monitor, but later reports pretty much squashed it. We expect that the Series 7 will most likely be announced at the iPhone event later in September, so check back with us in the coming weeks for more details.

Report Shows How Much Cheaper It Costs To Repair A Mac At Independent Repair Shops

Back in July, President Joe Biden issued an executive order for the right to repair. For those unfamiliar, basically what this means is that the US government is essentially backing the right for consumers to choose where and how they want to repair their products, whether it be at official repair stores or independent repair shops.

Now according to a new video and report from the Wall Street Journal, Joanna Stern highlights the importance for a right to repair legislation. In the video, it shows just how much it costs to repair a MacBook Pro, where taking it back to Apple would cost $999, which could buy you a brand new MacBook Air already, or at an independent repair shop where it costs $325 to fix a water-damaged laptop.

The report also highlights how despite some independent shops being willing to repair MacBook laptops, the lack of access to the parts or information needed to repair it made it impossible. This is one of the things that the right to repair movement have been fighting for, which is access to components, manuals, and information that would help users repair their gadgets from third-party sources.

An Apple spokesperson has since commented that the company still believes that repairs should be handled by a “trained technician”, but at the same time, Apple has also opened up its repair program to more third-party providers and provided them with more documentation and access to genuine components.
