China Limits TikTok Use To Just 40 Minutes A Day For Kids Under 14

Not too long ago, the Chinese government announced further restrictions that they would be setting on gaming, where those aged under 18 will not be allowed to play games for more than 3 hours a week, and only on weekends at a certain time, meaning that even then they won’t get to choose when they want to game.

Now it looks like the government is further cracking down on the time kids spend on non-educational apps, such as Douyin, which is the China version of TikTok (also owned by ByteDance). According to these new restrictions, kids under 14 will not be allowed to spend more than 40 minutes a day using the app.

Those under 14 will be switched to a “youth mode” in the app and according to the restrictions, they will not be able to use the app between 10pm to 6am, meaning that the authorities do not want kids staying up into the middle of the night just using the app. All things considered, it is less restrictive compared to the new gaming regulations.

However, it should be noted that this probably won’t have too big of an effect on kids. This is because a report from the South China Morning Post revealed that 0.34% of users on Douyin are under the age of 12, while 4.18% are aged 13-19, so the vast majority are older users who do not have these restrictions applied to them.

iOS 15 Has Been Officially Released

At WWDC earlier this year, Apple announced their next major build of iOS in the form of iOS 15. For those who have been looking forward to the update, you’ll be pleased to learn that both iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 have been released and are now available for download on your devices, assuming you have a compatible one.

All you need to do is head on over to your iPhone or iPad’s Settings > General > Software Update and you should see the update there ready to be downloaded and installed. If you have automatic updates enabled, it should eventually download itself and be ready for installation whenever you’re free, but if you can’t wait, then you can always try and pull it manually.

Some of the changes that users can look forward to is a redesigned Safari that lets users choose if they want to relocate the URL bar, tab groups, a customizable start page, and more. iOS 15 will also improve on the notification system with larger photos and details, and there is also a new Focus mode designed to help keep you focused by letting you choose and limit notifications, and more.

While visually there doesn’t appear to be any major design changes, the update is quite a hefty one weighing in over 2GB, so make sure your phone is connected to a power outlet and WiFi before you download and install it.
