HTC Wildfire E Ultra is a poor sign of life

HTC is one of the last remaining pioneers of the mobile phone market still making phones, but it doesn’t mean it’s doing well like Motorola or Sony (of Sony Ericsson). It hasn’t launched any notable smartphone of late, and the phones that it did put out are mostly on the budget side, limited to a very small number of markets. … Continue reading

Galaxy S22 Ultra charging speed upgrade will be modest again

Samsung has made great strides in the smartphone market, but there is one technology in particular where it seems to be stuck in the past. While the rest of its competitors have gone above and beyond when it comes to charging, even Samsung’s flagships haven’t moved forward considerably. It did make a step forward last year but then took a … Continue reading

TikTok Bans Videos on ‘Devious Licks’ of School Property, Which Apparently Refers to Stealing Things

TikTok’s latest ban on “devious licks” videos really brought out my inner Old. Considering the crazy things the Youth and others do on TikTok nowadays, I sincerely thought the kids were out licking things in a pandemic, which is both alarming and gross. Thankfully, I was wrong, but the alternative is perhaps more…

Taiwanese Consumer Group Wants Apple Investigated For Not Including Chargers With iPhone

Ever since the iPhone 12, Apple has decided not to include chargers with the phone. They will bundle a USB-C to Lightning cable, but there will not be a charger. Apple claimed that this was done for environmental reasons, although many simply see it as Apple being greedy and trying to increase profit margins.

Now it looks like over in Taiwan, the Consumers’ Foundation has accused Apple of “exploiting” their customers by not including chargers with their iPhones, claiming that Apple’s environmental reasonings were not valid, while also infringing upon consumer rights as they feel that chargers are an “essential” part of operating a phone.

To be fair obviously since a phone uses a battery to power it on, not having a charger means you can’t charge said battery, but at the same time, it’s not as if Apple’s chargers are proprietary and users are more than free to use any other USB charger they have lying around, but we suppose that’s not the point the group is trying to make.

This wouldn’t be the first time Apple got in trouble over this and over in Brazil, the company is now forced to include chargers with their iPhones. It remains to be seen if a similar situation will happen in Taiwan, but it’ll have to depend on whether the Taiwan Fair Trade Commission will decide if this is a matter worth investigating.

Samsung Begins Mass Production Of 90Hz OLED Laptop Screens

For the most part when it comes to displays, the standard refresh rate has been 60Hz. Only in higher-end displays aimed at gamers do we typically see refresh rates go to 90Hz, 120Hz, or even higher. The good news is that soon we might be able to look forward to 90Hz being the standard.

This is because Samsung Display has announced that they have kicked off mass production on 90Hz OLED panels that are designed for laptops, and that the first company to take advantage of these new displays would be ASUS where they plan on using it in an upcoming 14-inch laptop.

According to Samsung, “The 90Hz OLED panel offers more options for consumers who are looking to enjoy high-performance content on their laptops. With our innovative OLEDs, we’re further pioneering and leading the market in display technologies that offer superior image quality.”

It has been speculated that maybe these displays could also find their way to Apple’s MacBooks. There are rumors of a 14-inch MacBook Pro, plus Apple does source their OLEDs from Samsung, so it’s not that much of a stretch. However, there are also other rumors that claim that Apple might actually use mini LEDs for their MacBooks, not OLED, so there’s that too.

AirPods 3 Reportedly Still On Track For Launch By End Of 2021

Apple’s iPhone 13 event has come and gone, but if there was one product announcement many were expecting at the event but failed to show, are the AirPods 3. There have been rumors about the earbuds for the longest time ever, but for some reason, they failed to materialize at the event.

However, a report from DigiTimes (paywall) is claiming that it is actually in production at the moment. This would suggest that it could still be on track for a launch before the end of 2021, but when exactly Apple plans on announcing it remains to be seen.

Apple is rumored to be planning another event in the coming weeks where they are expected to announce new Macs, like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and also possibly a more powerful Mac mini. This means that Apple has a second chance to announce the AirPods, but there is also a chance it could simply be launched through a press release, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

It is unclear why the AirPods 3 weren’t announced at the iPhone event, especially since the device and the iPhone is like a match made in heaven, but hopefully Apple will have something official to share soon.

SpaceX Inspiration4 launch reaches another space travel milestone

Elon Musk has always envisioned space travel to be as economical as air travel, though naturally still more expensive. SpaceX’s mission is to make that true not just for government-funded missions and research but also for commercial space tourism. The company has already gotten most launches and landings down to a “T,” but there are still some goals to be … Continue reading

Bluetti AC300 Portable Solar Power Station is finally available

Very recent natural disasters have again shown the need for emergency power that is not only environment-friendly but also safe for use. Fuel-powered generators are a dime a dozen, of course, but consumers should be aware by now of the dangers these power sources pose. A good number of portable power stations have popped up left and right in the … Continue reading

The iPhone’s 5G mmWave Will Remain Limited To US Markets

In case you didn’t know, the current state of 5G has resulted in two different versions – mmWave and sub-6GHz. The former offers faster speeds but has a shorter range, while the latter covers more ground but in exchange, it is slower. The iPhone 12 launched with support for both, but mmWave was limited to the US.

However, there have been rumors that Apple could change that with the iPhone 13 by bringing mmWave to more markets outside the US. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case. According to Apple’s cellular compatibility page, it mentions that only US models of the iPhone 13 will support mmWave 5G bands.

This seems to have disproved rumors and reports from notable analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo, who predicted that mmWave would be coming to countries like Canada, Japan, Australia, and several parts of Europe. It is unclear if this was a last minute change or if the reports were wrong all along, but that’s how it is at the moment.

We’re not sure why Apple hasn’t bothered to bring mmWave support to more countries and markets, but to be fair, sub-6GHz is still pretty fast and faster than LTE, so that in itself is an upgrade, so users shouldn’t feel bad about it.

Razer Launches New Gaming Sleeves For Your Fingers

Razer makes a bunch of different accessories, gadgets, and peripherals targeted at gamers, although it seems that the company might have launched their most ridiculous one yet. This comes in the form of the Razer Gaming Finger Sleeve which feels like April Fools came either too early or too late.

According to Razer, “Slip on and never slip up with Razer Gaming Finger Sleeve that will seal your mobile victory. Woven with high-sensitivity silver fiber for enhanced aim and control, our breathable sleeves keep your fingers deadly cool in the heat of battle, so you’ll always have a grip on the game.”

To be fair, we can’t really fault the company for launching it. Mobile gaming is quite a big deal these days, so if they can capitalize on that with these types of accessories where some gamers think it could give them an edge, then why not, right?

We’re not sure how well they actually work but thankfully they’re not that expensive. They will be priced at $9.99 for a pair so if you are curious, then you can head on over to Razer’s website and check it out. It is quite a novel idea, but hopefully this isn’t going to kick start some new trend where we start seeing people sitting in cafes with finger sleeves and gaming on their phones.
