With Windows 11, Microsoft isn’t just giving the operating system a visual upgrade. It is also updating almost all of its core first-party apps to match the new design language. Nowhere is this more evident than in the venerable Microsoft Paint app, which has stayed the same for almost a decade. The refreshed version for Windows 11 is finally available … Continue reading
App stores are hot topics these days because of how the big boys are allegedly using their position to monopolize the mobile app market. To some extent, Microsoft has the opposite problem. It can’t even be accused of having a monopoly because its Microsoft Store app marketplace isn’t exactly teeming with exclusives, and developers can always take their apps elsewhere. … Continue reading

iPad mini 6 “jelly scrolling” is normal behavior according to AppleIt’s not unusual for new products to launch with some issues, and even Apple’s devices aren’t immune to that. Last week, we reported that Amazon could be working on a new Echo device that would take the shape of a wall-mounted display. It looks like the rumors were right on the money because the company has since unveiled their brand new Echo Show 15, a 15-inch small display that’s designed to be mounted on the wall.
Amazon is no stranger to smart displays, but this display sits a little differently in that it acts more like a peg board of sorts, or even a picture frame as you can see from its design. This is versus other Echo smart displays that look like speakers with a built-in display.
With the new Echo Show 15, Amazon has introduced a refreshed widget system that lets users create things like family reminders, display the weather, smart home notifications, stream camera video feeds, display photos, and more. There is also a new Visual ID system that apparently displays content automatically based on who’s in the room.
It sounds kind of creepy, but at the same time useful. The new Amazon Echo Show 15 is priced at $150 and is expected to be available for purchase later this year, so keep an eye out for it if it sounds like something you might be able to find useful.

It’s safe to say that Nest helped bring smart thermostats into the mainstream, and over the years we’ve started to see more competing devices. The latest competitor to the Nest now comes in the form of Amazon who has unveiled their very own smart thermostat which will be a cheaper alternative.
Priced at $60, this is possibly one of the cheapest smart thermostats we’ve seen so far. This is compared to the competition like the Nest which costs $130, Ecobee’s $250 option, and Wyze whose thermostat is going for $80. But the question is, for $60, what are you getting in return?
According to Amazon, this thermostat was developed in partnership with Resideo, the makers of the Honeywell Home smart thermostats. It will work with most existing 24V HVAC systems and includes support for features like Alexa routines, presence detection, as well as remote control so that you can manually control the thermostat even if you aren’t home.
It features a simple display that shows the current temperature as well as built-in controls to change the mod and adjust the temperature. At 3.5-inches wide, it’s not particularly big so installing it in your home shouldn’t be an issue. Pre-orders are now live and it is expected to begin shipping to customers in November.

Many of you might know Amazon as being an online retailer, but over the years, the company has diversified its offerings where they sell all sorts of things like e-readers, e-books, smart home gadgets, and more. It now looks like robotics could be Amazon’s next venture as they have since unveiled the Astro, an at-home robot.
While other companies might be focusing more on robots for industrial or military use, the Astro is a robot designed for the everyday consumer. It is a motorized robot with two wheels that helps it move around, and a display that can show a face to make it look more friendly and less intimidating.
This is essentially a culmination of most of Amazon’s tech efforts so far, such as AI, cloud services, smart home monitoring, and more. Some of the features of Astro include the ability to map out your home’s floor plan, deliver items to people in the home, play music, answer questions, and since it has a built-in display, you can even use it to make video calls.
There is also a built-in periscope camera which can be raised or lowered so it can check for things like whether you’ve turned the stove off. It’s a very interesting piece of gadgetry and it is priced at $999. It is classified as a Day 1 device which essentially means that you’ll kind of be a beta tester of sorts and you’ll be able to give Amazon feedback on its products. It is invite-only so if you’re interested, you can try and apply to get in on the program.

Although they were hoped to come earlier next month, it seems that Google will be pushing its Pixel device launch near the end of October. That has given tipsters and leakers some more time to complete the picture of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro before that time. The two have admittedly been leaked over and over again, … Continue reading
