Apple’s hardware event last week sparked some discussion and debate over the company’s perceived lack of innovation this year, but it might not be alone in that regard. At least based on the earliest leaks, Samsung’s next flagship smartphone might also fail expectations of a phenomenal upgrade to the Galaxy S family. While the Galaxy S22 Ultra does seem to … Continue reading
Now that Apple and Samsung have said all that they have to say for 2021, it’s Google’s time to reveal what it has been cooking behind semi-closed doors. Android users and perhaps even some Apple fans are most likely very curious about the Pixel 6, both for its design as well as the new Google-designed Tensor chip. While it has … Continue reading
After years of what felt a bit like neglect, it seems that Apple’s iPad mini finally got the refresh it deserved at the company’s event a couple of weeks ago. The tablet has since started shipping out to eager customers, but some of them are finding out that the tablet has an issue with its display.
According to reports, users are experiencing a “jelly scrolling” effect where it seems that one part of the iPad mini’s display is refreshing faster compared to the other side. As a result, this creates a wobble down the middle of the screen, like how a jelly would jiggle if you were to shake it.
Here is is slow-mo video of scrolling on the iPad Min i slowed down EVEN MORE in a frame-by-frame step through. Notice how the right moves up faster than the left.

It seems that this might have affected more than just a few units because according to one 9to5Mac reader, they told the publication that when they took their iPad mini back to the Apple Store to get it replaced, they found that all the demo units on display had the same issue. This suggests that this isn’t a problem that’s limited to just a handful of unlucky customers.
The Verge’s Dieter Bohn is also reporting that his unit is affected by the same problem and has shared a video on Twitter demonstrating it. It is unclear if this is a hardware of software issue, but hopefully it is a software problem because it means that a software patch should be able to fix it.

Over the years as people started to shift to on-demand streaming and viewing of videos online, traditional TV channels have also started to make their way onto video platforms like YouTube where they offer clips from their various TV shows on its network. NBC is one of them, although that might no longer be the case in the future.
In a statement released by NBC Universal to the press, it seems that the company is warning its YouTube subscribers that they may no longer be able to access their channels on YouTube TV in the future. This is apparently due to a contract dispute between the company and Google in which if the contract between both companies is terminated, it could mean the loss of NBC’s various channels on YouTube TV.
This would affect as many as 14 different channels which include NBC, SyFy, USA, Bravo, and Telemundo, just to name a few. According to the statement, “Unfortunately, Google is refusing to make a deal at these fair rates and is willing to withhold entertainment, news and sports programming from their paying customers. NBCUniversal feels a responsibility to inform our fans that they are at risk of losing their favorite shows if Google continues with their demands.”
NBC Universal has also since directed users to a website where they can learn more about the dispute (from their perspective) and also let them know the various actions and steps they can take to hopefully prevent this from happening.

Younger Generation Of Students Apparently Aren’t Familiar With Files And Folders On A Computer
Posted in: Today's ChiliA lot of computer concepts are brought over from the real world. Take for example the recycling bin which is where deleted files go, kind of like your own trash bin in real life where you throw away things you don’t need, but since trash bins are still used in real-life even today, it’s not an unfamiliar concept to the younger generation of students.
However, according to a report from The Verge that collected some anecdotes from various educators, it seems that the younger generation of students seem to be oblivious to what files and folders on a computer are.
According to the various stories shared by educators, many of them have encountered instances where students don’t seem to understand the concept of what files and folders are. This is a system that was used back in the day before computers, where files were essentially individual documents/reports, and folders were where you put them in to organize them.
According to Catherine Garland, an astrophysicist who teaches engineering, shared her perspective on how computer files are organized versus how her students see it. “I tend to think an item lives in a particular folder. It lives in one place, and I have to go to that folder to find it. They see it like one bucket, and everything’s in the bucket.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that all of the younger generation are clueless about files and folders, but it does suggest that as we advance into the future, it might be time to rethink how we approach computers and design. For example, the concept of “dialing” or “hanging up” a phone is a foreign one to younger kids who grew up in the age of smartphones.
In any case, it’s an interesting read and if you have the time to spare, it might be worth going through the article.
