Researchers are working hard around the world to try and improve the speed available for data sharing. Microsoft Research and EPFL recently demonstrated ultrafast optical switching utilizing a chip-based soliton comb laser and a passive diffraction grating device. Project researchers believe the architecture may enable the transition to optical data centers that are energy efficient and can better meet the … Continue reading
One of the more ambitious and interesting missions that NASA has conducted in recent memory is the DART mission. DART, or Double Asteroid Redirection Test, is a mission intended to determine if an asteroid that will impact the Earth can be redirected by hitting it with spacecraft. NASA has confirmed that within two days of leaving the Johns Hopkins Applied … Continue reading
Astronomers have detected something for the first time that is believed to the common in young developing solar systems. A team led by researchers at MIT has discovered evidence of a massive planetary impact in a nearby star system known as HD 17255. In that star system, researchers believe a planet similar in size to the Earth and a smaller … Continue reading
Former President Donald Trump, a white supremacist who barely knows how to use a computer, announced late Wednesday that he plans to launch a new social media platform next year called Truth Social, with beta testing opening up to select users in November. One of the features of Samsung’s newer smartwatches is fall detection. Similar to other smartwatches with the feature, like the Apple Watch, it relies on the device’s accelerometer to determine if you might have fallen down, and if you have, if you don’t respond in a timely manner it will then attempt to call for help.
However, Samsung has announced new updates to the Galaxy Watch 4 where they’ll be improving on the fall detection feature where it will now work even if you are not moving. As the feature previously relied on the accelerometer, there were some instances in which some falls aren’t detected.
According to Samsung, the update will make the feature more intuitive so that it works even if the accelerometer doesn’t detect a fall. Users can pre-select up to four contacts who will be notified when a fall happens. We’re not sure how this will work and if it might cause some false positives, but it might still end up being pretty useful.
We’ve heard many stories in the past of how the Apple Watch’s fall detection has saved lives, whether it’s from an actual fall or if the wearer got into an accident, which the watch thinks is a fall, and calls for help before it’s too late.

It can be safely assumed that if you were to plug in a pair of headphones into a computer, phone, or console, that audio would be redirected to the headphones instead of the speakers. For some reason, the Xbox never had that feature and users who use headphones had to mute their speakers separately.
However, the good news for those who find it a very troublesome thing to do is that Microsoft has announced that soon, Xbox users won’t have to go through those motions anymore in the future. The company will be testing out a feature for Xbox Insiders where when a pair of headphones are plugged in, the speakers will automatically be muted.
This is a feature currently only available to those part of the Insider program, which is basically a beta program of sorts, so if you’re not in it, you’ll have to wait for Microsoft to release it to the public. We’re not sure why it took Microsoft this long to roll it out to begin with.
Other consoles like the PS5 already automatically mutes speakers when it detects headphones are in use, plus like we said, this is something commonly found on PCs, phones, and tablets. We suppose it’s better late than never, so hopefully non-Insiders won’t have to wait too long before the feature is available to them.

Unlike other streaming services like Apple Music that does not offer a free tier, YouTube Music does in a bid to compete with other platforms such as Spotify. However, it seems that if you’re a subscriber to the free tier of YouTube Music, starting next month you’re going to lose some of its features.
According to YouTube, they have announced that free subscribers will no longer be able to watch music videos unless they were to subscribe to YouTube Premium. Keep in mind that as a regular YouTube user, you can still watch videos, even music videos if you want, but if you’re trying to do that through YouTube Music and you’re a free subscriber, you can’t.
This means that YouTube Music will essentially become an audio-only experience, which we suppose if that was how you used the service all along, it’s not that big of a deal. In fact, while YouTube is taking away music videos on demand for free subscribers, they will be giving them other perks.
This includes listening to music in the background, shuffle play personalized mixes, find moon mixes for various activities, and more. These changes are expected to come into effect on the 3rd of November, but in the meantime if on-demand music videos are something you are keen on, then maybe it’s time to consider subscribing to YouTube Premium which also has the added benefit of not coming with ads.
