Senator Richard Blumenthal is again calling on Mark Zuckerberg to testify about Facebook’s research into Instagram and child safety. “It is urgent and necessary for you or Mr. Adam Mosseri to testify to set the record straight and provide members of Congress and parents with a plan on how you are going to protect our kids,” the Connecticut lawmaker wrote in a letter addressed to Zuckerberg.
Blumenthal is the chair of the Senate subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security that’s been holding hearings on social media and child safety in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Blumenthal said that a series of whistleblower disclosures about Facebook was the company’s “big tobacco moment.”
Since then, pressure has mounted on Facebook to address internal research that shows Instagram can have a negative impact on some teens’ mental health. The company has already “paused” work on a forthcoming Instagram Kids app, but lawmakers have said the company should end the project altogether.
In his letter, Blumenthal said that Facebook’s head of safety, Antigone Davis, who testified at a previous hearing, “appears to have provided false or inaccurate testimony to me regarding attempts to internally conceal its research.” He also said that Facebook “has continued to demean impactful and independent investigative reporting” and “downplayed its own research.”
Facebook didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Samsung Enters Age of Super-Personalization With New Bespoke Phones and Watches
Posted in: Today's ChiliDuring today’s Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 (October 2021), Samsung introduced two new “Bespoke” series of products, the Galaxy Z Flip3 Bespoke Edition and the Galaxy Watch 4 Bespoke Studio. These are not Samsung’s first ultra-customizable products as the company had introduced the same concept with home appliances.
The overall idea is to give users more control than ever over how their devices look as colors and accents are configurable online (Samsung.com only) at order time. For example, the Galaxy Z Flip3 Bespoke Edition has nearly 50 possible color combinations, and you can even swap colors again later (for a fee). Don’t miss our Galaxy Z Flip3 review if you’re thinking of getting one.
The same is true for the Galaxy Watch 4 Bespoke Studio, which offers a dizzying number of styles and colors. There’s really something for everyone, and both phones and watch user interfaces (UI) can be further customized thanks to the new One UI 4.0.
One UI is Samsung’s proprietary user interface that replaces the native Android UI. The new version brings many visual changes, including using pre-made or custom color palettes to make the devices ultra-personalized.
You can watch the video below to see the possible customizations, but behind the scenes, Samsung’s ordering and supply chain systems are the most fascinating. These customizations were built into the product designs way ahead of time and might even create an economic moat for these products since it’s tough to replicate this at scale.

A pair of studies from sociologists with West Virginia University dive into some of the biggest factors fueling US vaccine problems, including denial of their efficacy and skepticism over their safety.
