Now that this year’s iPhones are out of the way, it’s time to focus all our attention on MacBooks. Apple’s “Unleashed” event kicks off today at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET and, as always, we’ll be liveblogging the whole thing right here.
If you’re based out of Europe and don’t, uh, already hate Facebook, then boy oh boy does the company have the perfect job for you. On Sunday, the company announced that it plans to create 10,000 “high-skilled jobs” across the EU to help build out Facebook’s plans for the “metaverse.”
Last year, Apple announced that they would be transitioning away from the use of Intel’s processors to their own Apple Silicon chipsets. Obviously this is quite a blow to Intel who has been steadily supplying Apple with processors for more than a decade ever since Apple moved away from PowerPC.
However, Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger believes that he can win back Apple’s business again. This is according to an interview Gelsinger did with Ina Fried on Axios on HBO where he suggested that all Intel needed to do was make better products than Apple.
According to Gelsinger, “In the meantime, I’ve gotta make sure our products are better than theirs, that my ecosystem is more open — and vibrant — than theirs, and that we create a more compelling reason for developers and users to land on Intel-based products. So I’m gonna fight hard to win [Apple CEO Tim Cook’s] business in this area.”
Apart from Apple’s desire to control their own hardware and software, another reason Apple moved away from Intel was due to the various delays that Intel suffered in recent years. As companies like Apple are reliant on Intel for their latest technology, it also affected Apple’s ability to launch meaningful hardware refreshes.
Will Apple ever go back to using Intel again in the future? That’s hard to say, but for now, it seems like Apple and the various tech reviewers are pretty happy with what the M1’s got to offer.

It’s not uncommon to find many homes and offices relying on all-in-one printing, scanning, faxing, and photocopying systems. This is because it makes so much more sense to own a single gadget that does everything rather than multiple standalone gadgets that only fulfil one purpose.
Unfortunately for Canon, it seems that the company is finding themselves on the end of a lawsuit after a customer has sued them for not allowing owners of certain printers to scan or fax when the printer runs out of ink.
The lawsuit was filed by Canon customer David Leacraft, who discovered that his Pixma MG6320 printer refused to scan or fax documents whenever the printer was out of ink. The argument is that since it does not require ink to scan a document into a computer or to send a fax, these features shouldn’t be disabled when the printer does not have ink.
Leacraft isn’t the only customer with this issue as there have been several complaints made over the years by customers who faced similar problems as he did. Customer service agents were discovered to have told these customers that an ink cartridge must be installed and contain ink for these features to work.
The lawsuit is alleging that Canon’s marketing of these devices as “all-in-one” are misleading, false, and “likely to deceive the public”. Canon has yet to respond to this lawsuit so it remains to be seen what they will say or do about it.

Over the years, IKEA has evolved its product offering from just regular furniture to smart furniture and even dabbled in some tech. Some of you might recall that a few years ago, IKEA and Sonos teamed up for the SYMFONISK speaker which combined IKEA’s furniture and product design with Sonos’ speaker and audio streaming technology.
However, it looks like IKEA isn’t stopping there. According to a report from The Verge, they spotted an FCC filing in which it revealed that IKEA is working on a new set of speakers, but this time these speakers Spotify-enabled speakers that come with a dedicated Spotify button. These speakers also double up as a tableside lamp called the IKEA Vappeby.
Given that these aren’t part of the SYMFONISK lineup, it looks like it’s an IKEA creation, possibly part of a team up with Spotify. Also, as The Verge points out, this could also possibly be the first ever Bluetooth speakers to feature the use of Spotify Tap.
For those unfamiliar, Spotify Tap is a feature that allows users to resume their music playback from whenever they last stopped. It can be found in some headphone models, but it has yet to debut on a set of Bluetooth speakers, so like we said, this could be a first. There is no word on pricing or availability yet but given that they were spotted at the FCC, we probably won’t have to wait too long for those details to surface.

However, there was some good news for fans who might now be scrambling to reschedule paid time off they planned to take in January. A closed network test of Elden Ring will take place in November, giving a lucky few players a chance to play a chunk of the game three months in advance. Publisher Bandai Namco said the goal is to stress test “various technical verifications of online systems.”
You have until November 1st to sign up for a chance to take part in the test, which will be open for five three-hour sessions between November 12th and 14th on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, but not PC. You don’t need to be a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscriber to take part.
