Don’t Expect Anything Major From Samsung’s Upcoming Galaxy Unpacked Event

Just a few days ago, Samsung announced that they would be hosting an event on the 20th of October. Given that Apple has an event planned for the 18th, Google on the 19th, it seemed like Samsung was hoping to steal some of the spotlight, but as it turns out maybe the company’s event could be a little disappointing.

In a teaser video that the company has released, it seems that this event could simply see the company reveal new color options for its foldables. The video itself is titled “Get ready to unfold something unmistakably you”, suggesting that this has something to do with foldables and customization.

The video itself also shows a bunch of cute little aliens working on a computer screen showing off different color palettes, which once again has led to speculation that the event will be mostly about showing off new colors for its phone. We’re not sure if new color options really warranted an event of its own,  but we suppose that’s Samsung’s prerogative.

Either way, we should have more details next week so check back with us on the 20th of October for the updates on what Samsung will be announcing, but until then, maybe don’t get your hopes up at seeing or hearing anything major.

T-Mobile Will Give You A Free OnePlus 9 If You Add A New Line

If you’re thinking about adding a new line to your mobile account, then hopefully you’re signed up with T-Mobile. This is because the company has announced a new promotion, which kicks off today (15th of October), where if you add a new line to your account, you’ll be able to get yourself a free OnePlus 9 handset.

Sounds pretty cool, right? So what about if you wanted the more expensive OnePlus 9 Pro? According to T-Mobile, you can opt for the OnePlus 9 Pro, but you’ll only get a $730 discount on the phone if you meet the requirements, which basically means that you’ll only have to top up a little extra money to get the phone, which once again isn’t too bad of a deal.

According to T-Mobile, this promotion is expected to last until the end of the year, so if you’re still on fence whether or not you want to add an extra line, you still have a little over two months to decide.

Both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro were launched earlier this year and they are the company’s flagship phones of 2021. It was largely expected that they would be following up with the OnePlus 9T later in the year, but OnePlus later confirmed that they would be skipping out on the T-series this year.

This means that the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are currently the best OnePlus phones you can buy in the market right now.

Carl Pei’s Nothing Could Be Working On A New Smartphone

As some of you might have heard, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei left the company to form his own company called Nothing. The company’s first product was a pair of earbuds and many have been curious about what the company could launch next. If a report from 91mobiles is to be believed, it seems that a phone could be next on the list.

When Nothing was first revealed, Pei was kind of vague about what kind of products we might be able to expect from the company. To be honest, given his position as the co-founder of OnePlus, many were hoping a new phone could be in the works, and this report certainly gives us hope.

In a way it shouldn’t be surprising because like we said, Pei did help found OnePlus. However, there is also a recent announcement by Nothing in which they revealed that they have entered into a strategic partnership with Qualcomm. With Qualcomm making the majority of smartphone chipsets, it stands to believe that this report could be true.

Alternatively, since Qualcomm also makes chipsets for smartwatches, maybe they could be working on a wearable instead. Either way, this Nothing phone is said to be launching in early 2022 so we still have a fair amount of waiting to do.

Nanoleaf Announces New ‘Lines’ Smart Lights

Many of you might know Nanoleaf as the company behind those cool geometric light panels that we see in many a room and desk setup video. However, if you’re not a fan of the geometric shapes and want something simpler, Nanoleaf has got you covered as the company has since announced its “Lines” smart lights.

As you can see in the photo above, Lines is definitely a bit of a departure from the company’s previous offerings. Instead of using geometric shapes to piece together a larger shape, users can now opt to use Lines to create their own shapes instead.

According to Nanoleaf, “Nanoleaf Lines now reinvents the idea of modular design, offering ultra lightweight light lines that connect at 60 degree angle increments to create sleek linear layouts, grand geometric shapes, and even ceiling designs with the intuitive mounting plates integrated with every Lines Mounting Connector.”

It’s actually quite interesting and does open the door to more possibilities. Each Lines light will connect to another at 60-degree angle increments. They are also compatible with a variety of smart home platforms which includes Apple’s HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and IFTTT.

The Nanoleaf Lines are expected to go on sale towards the end of November where the starter kit will be priced at $199.99, while three-line expansion packs will be sold separately at $79.99 each.

A Judge In The UK Rules That Smart Security Cameras Violated Neighbor’s Privacy

These days, it has become increasingly easier and cheaper to purchase and install smart security systems for your home. However, the next time you’re thinking about installing smart security cameras or even a smart doorbell that might come with a camera, you might want to think twice.

This is because over in the UK, a judge has ruled that by installing these security systems in his home, Jon Woodard was found to have violated his neighbor’s privacy. According to the BBC report, this came about when Woodard invited his neighbor, Dr. Mary Fairhurst, over to his home to show off his home renovations.

As part of the renovations, Woodard installed the Ring doorbell and security camera, which Fairhurst was opposed to. A series of disputes about the camera followed, which ultimately resulted in Fairhurst moving out of her home.

Due to the fact that these devices were able to capture video and audio (disabling audio was a feature that was only introduced in 2020), and it was found that the cameras could actually capture parts of Fairhurst’s home like the garden and parking space, the judge ruled that this was a breach of the UK Data Protection Act and UK GDPR.

That being said, this doesn’t mean you can’t protect your home using these systems, but perhaps it might be a good idea to ensure that if there is any video that’s being captured, it should be that of your own property.

Apple Music Could Be Headed For The PS5

While Apple loves to promote its own services within its own ecosystem, the company understands that in order to capture a wider market, they’ll need to appeal to more people. This is why it doesn’t really come as a complete shock to discover that Apple could be bringing Apple Music to the PS5.

This is according to a post on Reddit where a user discovered that they were given the option to download Apple Music on their console. However, the service doesn’t seem to be live yet because when the user tried to download it, they got the error message saying that the app is only usable on the PS4.

Eurogamer later tried to verify these claims and while there was no option to download Apple Music on their UK account, when they created a new account with the region set to the US, they did get the prompt. However, they were then unable to reproduce it suggesting that Sony/Apple is still working on getting the service live.

Launching on the PS5 wouldn’t be completely out of character for Apple. The company already offers Apple Music on other platforms like Android, Samsung’s Smart TVs, and Google Nest devices. However, the launch on the PS5 could potentially give Spotify a run for their money, but that’s assuming that users have an active subscription.
