AirTag Used By Owner To Help Locate Stolen Car

While initially positioned as an accessory to help people find a misplaced bag or a set of keys, Apple’s AirTag has quickly become an accessory that helps people track down their stolen vehicles. We’ve already heard a couple of stories of how the AirTag helped track down stolen scooters and motorcycles, and now it looks like we can add a stolen car to the mix.

According to a story shared on Reddit, it details how a car owner managed to track down their stolen car thanks to the use of the AirTag. In a post by u/thinkscotty, they share how they woke up early in the morning to discover that their car had been stolen. The police were called and a report was filed, and it was then they had placed a spare AirTag inside of a sunglasses holder in the car.

“So I marked the AirTag lost. It’s last showed its location as my house at 10:17pm the night before, so I knew my car had been stolen in the previous 5 hours. Less than 10 minutes later, I got a notification that my car had been found in Northlake, a Chicago suburb about a half hour from me. It was sitting in a Walmart parking lot.”

However, upon arriving at the parking lot, it seems that the thief had ditched the AirTag meaning that the Walmart parking lot was the last known location of the car. The owner was about to go home when for whatever reason, the thief decided to come back.

The car owner then called the police again who arrived promptly and arrested the car thief.

“My car was trashed. It smelled like cigarettes and weed, and there were cigarette butts put out in my floorboard. In less than 7 hours my car now looked like a hoarder’s car, I’m not exaggerating. The police had me go though all this stuff piece by piece myself to find what was mine and what wasn’t. There were several bags of stolen phones, tablets, watches, and just a metric ton of junk. I got it detailed later that day. It just felt too gross to be in it before that.”

iOS 15 Just Made It Easier To Steal Your Classmate’s Notes

One of the features of iOS 15 is that it has now made it a lot easier for students to steal each other’s notes. This is according to a hilarious video shared on Twitter where it shows one student zooming in on another student’s laptop screen, taking a photo, and then copying the text onto their device.

Originally shared on TikTok by French student Yann Bernillie, this life hack is thanks to a new iOS 15 feature called Live Text. For those unfamiliar, Live Text is a feature in iOS 15 that can scan a photo for text and lets you select it. You can then copy this text like you would any normal text, paste it into the Notes app or somewhere else and save it. You can also use Live Text to translate.

We should point out that taking photos of notes in class isn’t exactly new. Some students do take photos of a lecturer’s notes on the board because it’s easier than just writing it down, but with Live Text, it makes it easier to take that text and compile it into a word processing app so that you can edit it to make it easier for you to understand.

Not to mention Apple’s newer iPhones offer up a considerably longer zoom that previous models, meaning that even if you’re seated far away, you might still be able to zoom in far enough where Live Text will still work.

Nintendo Switch Pro Might Not Be Happening

For a while now, there have been rumors suggesting that Nintendo could have a new Switch Pro model in the works, offering up more powerful hardware that would allow games to run at 4K. Nintendo, over the course of the years, has denied that such a device exists, and now we might know the reason why.

According to Nintendo insider NateDrake, he claims that based on a tip he received, the reason why the Switch Pro isn’t happening is simply because there is a new and fully next-gen Nintendo console in the works. While it is still based on the Switch, he claims that it will be receiving brand new hardware that will allow it to achieve 4K gaming thanks to the use of NVIDIA’s DLSS technology.

He also claims that with this upgrade, it will most likely require a major change in the processor, to the point where backwards compatibility might be difficult, but he believes that Nintendo will find a way to make it work. There have been reports of developers who claim to have received 4K dev kits from Nintendo, so maybe there could be some truth to these claims.

It is possible that Nintendo is telling the truth when they say that there is no Switch Pro since apparently this will be something else entirely, but either way, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the market, we imagine it is about time that Nintendo gave its Switch series a bigger upgrade beyond just changing its screen to OLED.

This Could Be Why EA Is Thinking Of Dropping The FIFA Branding

Last week, EA announced that they are considering renaming its FIFA football series of video games to something else. Given that FIFA is an actual real-life organization, we imagine that this could be due to licensing issues, and it turns out that we might be right.

According to a report from The New York Times, there is apparently a bit of a dispute going on between EA and FIFA over the cost and new revenue streams from the game. It seems that FIFA wants to charge EA a whopping $1 billion every four years if they want to keep using the name, and this is said to be double the amount it used to cost.

FIFA also seems to be looking to limit how much EA can monetize the game. The report claims that FIFA is fine with EA monetizing what can already be found in the game, but it seems that EA is exploring monetizing other aspects like highlights of the game, arena tournaments, digital products like NFTs, and so on, all of which FIFA seems to be a bit reluctant against.

This is the disagreement that led to EA’s announcement last week. Nothing has been set in stone yet, but as IGN has discovered that EA had trademarked the “EA Sports FC” name, there is a good chance that this could be the new name of the series if neither side can come to an agreement.

Apple Reportedly Exploring Multiple Ways To Turn The AirPods Into A Health Device

Given that there are headphones out there that can measure certain body vitals and also with Apple’s interest in the health sector, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if future versions of the AirPods were to come with health sensing capabilities. Now according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, that’s exactly what Apple is doing at the moment.

The report claims that their sources have informed them that Apple is exploring various ways in which the AirPods could be used as a health device. This includes features such as temperature sensing, using it as a hearing aid, and also taking advantage of motion sensors so that the AirPods can actually help correct your posture.

The report claims that we probably won’t be seeing such a device anytime soon, and that it would be 2022 at the earliest, if at all. This is because there could be some regulatory hurdles that Apple would need to clear, like with the FDA, if they hope to bring it to the market. The Apple Watch has some regulatory requirements like with the ECG monitor, which is why the feature wasn’t widely available globally at launch.

Apple had previously acknowledged that the AirPods could have health tracking potential, but stopped short of actually confirming that they were working on something. In the meantime, the third-gen AirPods is expected to arrive at Apple’s event next week, but don’t expect anything over the top.
