The Dune Part 2 Release Date Is Slightly Worrisome for Director Denis Villeneuve

For fans, the news of Dune Part 2 coming in October 2023 is excellent. That means we will, for sure, see what happens next with Paul Atreides. For Dune Part 1 writer-director Denis Villeneuve, it’s great news too, but unlike the fans he has a bigger issue: actually making the movie in time.

Dell Alienware Aurora R13 Features New Intel Gen12 CPUs

Now that Intel has launched its new Alder Lake 12th generation processors, you can expect a flood of OEM launches, and Alienware has followed suit with the new Aurora R13 desktop gaming PC.

We’ve recently talked about the new Legend 2.0 chassis design of the Aurora 2021 line of products, and that’s what the Aurora R13 is using (check our link for all the details). It has superior cooling and airflow and “Cryo-Tech” liquid-cooling options (for a price).

Configurations vary from i5/8GB/256GB/GF GTX 1650 ($1479.99) to i9/64GB/1TB/RTX 3090 ($4649.99), and if you want the Core i9 version, you must also opt for 64GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. I would have loved seeing more flexible configuration options, but it is what it is.

Depending on your configuration, you might be asked to pick a GPU: GTX 1650, RTX 3060/3070/3080/3090. Try for yourself with the configurator.

As we mentioned in our Intel Alder Lake coverage, the new CPU is much more power-efficient and introduces a discontinuity in Intel’s gaming processor lineup. If you held your purchase up to this point, this might be a good time to pull the trigger.

You can surely squeeze slightly more “bang for the buck” by building a DIY gaming rig, but some of the higher-end Alienware configurations are not too far-off, and you won’t have to lift a finger, except for clicking on the Buy button. Your call.

Instagram Rolling Out Link Stickers In Stories For Everyone

Not too long ago, Instagram announced that they would be changing how links work in Stories. Links in Stories used to work as a “swipe up” method, but Instagram later changed it into a sticker users could place in their Stories that other users could click.

Now the good news is that it looks like Instagram has decided to roll out the feature for all users. This means that if you’ve always wanted to include a link in your Stories, you’ll now be able to do so. Prior to this, Instagram required that users be verified in order to include links in their Stories, presumably to prevent spam and to cut down on potentially fraudulent/malicious links.

The company had previously claimed that these links are useful for businesses and activists who might be able to use these links to link to their products or other resources, but they later conceded that it’s useful for pretty much anyone who wants to engage with their followers.

As for concerns regarding spam links or malicious links, Instagram says that accounts that are found to repeatedly use these links to share misinformation or hate speech will end up losing access to it, so it’s not as if Instagram will be letting users run wild and free with the feature, which is a good thing.

Apple Sued In China Over Lack Of iPhone Chargers

With the iPhone 12, Apple made the decision not to include a charger with the phone. The company claims that it was done for environmental reasons, although at the same time, we imagine that the company is probably turning a tidy little profit selling its chargers that offer fast-charging separately.

While a lot of people around the world might be grumbling about the lack of chargers, it seems that over in China, the company has been sued over it. This lawsuit was filed against Apple by a group of university students in China where they are challenging Apple’s claims that not bundling the charger will help save the environment.

According to the students, they claim that since Apple includes a USB-C to Lightning cable, it makes it incompatible with other chargers in the market. Apple argued back that it’s common for phone makers to sell their phones and chargers separately, but the students claim that other phone manufacturers, such as those in China, offer packages where users can choose whether they want an adapter or not.

That being said, China isn’t the only place in the world where Apple is facing these complaints. Just last month, Brazilian regulators announced plans to investigate Apple over these complaints. We’re not sure if eventually customers will get used to the lack of a charger, or if Apple will eventually cave and bring it back, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Facebook Rebrands Itself As Meta

Following the rumors last week that Facebook was planning on rebranding themselves, sure enough it looks like the rumors were true. During the company’s Connect 2021 conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook would be rebranded and will now be known as “Meta”.

According to the announcement, “The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world. It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for our company.”

So what does this mean? Essentially, nothing changes for the end users. Meta is basically the new parent company and brands/products like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram will be part of it. This means that the Facebook you know and use everyday won’t be changing or rebranding, but will simply be a brand under Meta.

This is more or less the same as what Google did a few years ago, where they created the Alphabet company to act as a parent company, while Google it became a subsidiary of the brand.
