Adobe Brings Photoshop To The Web

It used to be that if you wanted to use software, you would have to download it onto your computer. However, the problem is that this means that if you’re using a different computer, you’ll need to download that too, which can be troublesome if that computer isn’t yours. This is why web applications exist, for that convenience.

The good news is that if you need to make some image edits, Adobe has announced that they will be bringing a version of Photoshop to the web. It won’t be as powerful or feature rich compared to the desktop version of Photoshop, but it should be good enough for users to make some quick edits that go beyond just cropping and resizing of images.

According to Adobe, users who are interested can try a beta of it. “In it, you can try out the commenting workflow and test some early Photoshop editing features we are piloting on the web. You and your collaborators can now open and view Photoshop cloud documents in the browser, provide feedback, and make basic edits all in one place without having to download or launch the app.”

Right now it seems that Photoshop for the web will only be supported in browsers such as Chrome and Edge. It’s a pretty interesting approach and we have to wonder if we’ll start seeing more traditional desktop applications find their way onto the web as well.

BlizzConline 2022 Has Been Cancelled

For pretty much every year, Blizzard has held its own in-person event called BlizzCon where gamers would gather and Blizzard would host panels, announce new games, updates to existing ones, and more. However, it seems that the company will be pumping the brakes on that for a while.

As you might have heard, Blizzard is under a lot of scrutiny at the moment over workplace related issues that have drawn a lot of negative attention. So much so that the company decided that BlizzConline 2022 probably wasn’t the best idea at such a time.

According to Blizzard, “Any BlizzCon event takes every single one of us to make happen, an entire-company effort, fueled by our desire to share what we create with the community we care about so much. At this time, we feel the energy it would take to put on a show like this is best directed towards supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences.”

For those unfamiliar with BlizzConline, it’s basically an online-only event in place of the in-person event. This is due to the pandemic which forced Blizzard to cancel BlizzCon last year and replace it with BlizzConline 2021, which took place earlier this year.

That being said, Blizzard notes that while BlizzConline 2022 will no longer be happening, they’ll still be making product announcements and updates.

Don’t Expect Third-Party Apple Watch Faces Anytime Soon

With every update to the Apple Watch, Apple introduces new watch faces. It seems like a very strange way to introduce new designs, especially if Apple were to just open it up and allow for third-party designs. Unfortunately, it does not appear that third-party Apple Watch faces will be arriving anytime soon.

Speaking to CNET in an interview, Apple’s VP of interface design Alan Dye was quoted as saying, “As critical as the hardware is at playing the role distinguishing Apple Watch as Apple Watch, we think the watch faces play a pretty big role there as well, which is why we’ve been so careful over the years, despite the fact that there’s wide variety, to have a lot of consistent design elements.”

Dye also points towards the complications as a way for users to personalize their watches, while at the same time maintaining Apple’s own aesthetics. “If you look closely, the watch hands are always drawn exactly the same way, despite the fact that they show up in different colors. We think we struck a really good balance. The watch faces themselves, they provide a canvas for third parties for sure, and a template that they can [use to] create multiple complications and turn a watch face into their watch face, and that becomes the interface in some ways for their application.”

So, if you were hoping that we would see Apple open up the Apple Watch for third-party watch faces, you definitely shouldn’t be holding your breath.
