AMC Giving NFTs To Advance Ticket Purchases Of Spider-Man: No Way Home

One of the ways that movie studios and cinemas try to entice people to buy their tickets in advance is by giving away collectibles like t-shirts, caps, beanies, keychains, and more. However, AMC is taking things to the next level by announcing that advance ticket purchases to Spider-Man: No Way Home will net moviegoers NFTs.

For those unfamiliar, NFTs are essentially digital assets that rely on blockchain technology. Right now, they’re generally used in digital art where you can purchase an NFT of a drawing, video, photo, audio, and other types of digital assets and you would technically “own” it, kind of like how an NFT yacht in a video game was recently purchased for $650,000.

According to AMC, there will be 86,000 NFTs available with about 100 designs to choose from, meaning that in a way you’re kind of like getting a collectible except in NFT form. Of course, there’s no stopping someone from taking a screenshot or saving the collectible to their computer and having a copy of it as well, but technically, the one you redeemed from AMC would be yours to own as backed by the blockchain.

It’s an interesting move by AMC, but as the world is moving towards crypto and digital assets, we can’t say we’re too surprised. If you’ve been looking to get your hands on an NFT, this could be one way of doing so.

Teen Shot After Trying To Sell His PS5

Sony’s PS5 is in demand right now. The PlayStation branding and reputation, plus the rave reviews of the PS5 have resulted in it being high in demand, and couple that with the global chip shortage, we’re looking at a situation where demand has greatly exceeded supply.

This is why scalpers have been buying up as many PS5 units as they possibly can and then reselling them for a much higher amount. It is also why anyone with a PS5 will have no trouble finding someone willing to buy it either, which is the case with a 19-year old teen who tried to sell his PS5 console but ended up with him getting shot.

According to the reports, the 19-year old had put up his PS5 for sale online where a buyer contacted him and agreed to meet up in person to complete the transaction. That’s where the buyer pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the 19-year old of his console. The teen was shot and the robber got away.

However, there is some good news because according to the reports, the teen was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his side but was in stable condition, and also the robber did not manage to get away with the console either.

Valve Is Still Not Working On Half-Life 3

With the success of Half-Life 2, many have been wondering for years if Half-Life 3 is in the works. After all, wouldn’t Valve want to continue their success with a third title in the series? That’s what many think, but unfortunately, it seems that Valve is apparently still not working on the game.

This is according to Tyler McVicker of Valve News Network where in a new video, claims that Half-Life 3 is currently not being developed. According to McVicker, “No, at the current time, there isn’t a major development team working on anything outside of the few pieces of software that are specifically tailored for hardware right now.”

He adds, “Valve is trying to get the Steam Deck out and, like many people have observed, the Steam Deck has been significantly more successful than originally anticipated, so Valve is throwing a lot at it.”

For years, many have been trying to find clues that might suggest Half-Life 3 is in development, but to date nothing concrete has been discovered, and this report pretty much cements the fact that Valve doesn’t seem too keen on developing the third title in the series. To be fair, Valve’s efforts over the years have seen the company move away from development of games.

While the company still makes and maintains their games like Dota 2, we haven’t really seen anything new or major. Instead, the company seems to be focusing on its Steam storefront and also on hardware products like the Vive VR headset and now the Steam Deck. Will Half-Life 3 ever see the light of day? That’s hard to say, but for now, don’t hold your breath.

Someone Just Bought An NFT Yacht For $650,000

If you search for an image on the internet, there’s a good chance that you’ll find multiple copies of it used on a variety of websites. This is because with digital art, it’s not difficult to save an image to your computer and reupload it. Short of crediting the creator or placing a watermark, sometimes it can be difficult to determine who owns it.

This is a problem NFTs try to solve, by creating digital items where ownership can be verified by using blockchain technology, the same tech behind cryptocurrency. This has led to a variety of digital artworks being sold as NFTs which allow people to claim digital ownership over an image, but have we gone a bit too far?

We ask that because according to a report from Hypebeast, someone actually paid a whopping $650,000 for an NFT yacht called The Metaflower Super Mega Yacht. The NFT was bought for 149 ETH, which based on its current value is worth around $650,000 in real-life money. The yacht is an NFT asset part of The Sandbox, which is a metaverse game in which consists of 100 private islands which have been sold to buyers similar to how you would buy a piece of property or land in real-life.

It is a pretty insane thing to think about how people are spending over half a million dollars on what is essentially an in-game item. If you’re wondering what a $650,000 NFT yacht looks like, you can check out the video above.

These Sensors Can Track Facial Muscles To Tell When We Are Lying

How can you tell when someone is lying? Sometimes it’s a bit obvious, some people stutter and get flustered when they try to lie on the spot. Others might avoid eye contact. Basically, there are many telltale signs when someone is lying, but sometimes these signs aren’t always so obvious which makes it hard to tell.

So, how would someone like law enforcement officials tell if a suspect is lying? That’s something the Professor Dino Levy, Professor Yael Hanein, and a team of researchers from Tel Aviv University are trying to figure out and they have actually developed sensors that can tell. These sensors are placed on the subject’s face and are used to monitor facial muscle movements.

The concept is that some people when they lie involuntarily activate muscles in their cheeks and eyebrows. With these sensors that have been specially developed, the researchers claim that they have had a 73% success rate when it comes to detecting if someone is lying based purely on the readings of the sensor alone.

Of course, it’s not practical to have electrodes stuck to our face all the time, which is why the researchers are now looking to go one step further by removing the use of the electrodes and training AI using algorithms to detect these subtle muscle contractions through high-resolution camera footage.

This means that in the future, this tech could be used by the police, at airports, and more simply by analyzing videos taken by cameras.

WhatsApp Getting Ready To Launch Reactions Feature

One of the major changes Facebook made several years ago was to allow users to react to posts. This meant that instead of liking a post, users could react with a laughing emoji, a sad emoji, a heart emoji, and so on. The idea is that this could convey how people felt without them having to type it out.

It also made it less awkward when someone posts something sad and you don’t want to “like” it. Now it seems that Meta is getting ready to bring that Facebook feature over to WhatsApp. As spotted by WABetaInfo, it seems that the latest WhatsApp beta has revealed the company’s plans to add the ability for users to react to messages.

This means that instead of replying to messages with an “OK” or “LOL”, users can react the same way they would to a Facebook post. There are already other messengers that have this feature, like Facebook Messenger and Instagram, both of which are also owned by Meta, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that this feature would come to WhatsApp as well.

There is no date on when this reaction feature will be released to users, but as it is already in the beta, we imagine that its availability shouldn’t be too far off, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information.
