Swift Playgrounds 4 Will Let Developers Create Apps On Their iPads

If you wanted to use Apple’s Swift Playgrounds to develop apps for iOS devices, you would typically need to use a Mac in order to do so (although there are other ways of developing apps). However, for those who work on the go and don’t necessarily have a MacBook, you’re in luck.

This is because Apple has since released Swift Playgrounds 4, an app for the iPad and Mac. With this latest version of Swift Playgrounds, users will now be able to design and create their apps using their iPads and submit them to Apple directly from the tablet itself, instead of having to use their Mac computers to do so.

This is pretty handy for developers who might constantly have their iPads with them versus a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, or for developers who have their iPads on them and want to do a bit of coding instead of having to wait to go home and get on their Mac computers.

Swift Playgrounds 4 was initially announced at WWDC 2021 earlier this year, but was ultimately delayed until now. For developers who are interested in checking out the app, you will be able to download the latest version from the App Store. Keep in mind that you will need to have an iPad that has iPadOS 15.2 or later, so if you own a particularly old iPad that doesn’t support the latest iOS update, then you’re out of luck.

WhatsApp Now Lets You Preview Voice Messages Before Sending Them

The problem with voice messages is that speaking on the spot could result in messages filled with “umms” and “uhhhs”, which could make messages unnecessarily longer. For WhatsApp users, you might be pleased to learn that the company has announced an update to the feature in the latest version of the app.

According to the post on WhatsApp’s Twitter account, users will now be able to preview their voice messages before it is sent. Normally you would have to press and hold the record button, and sometimes you might accidentally send a message that you think could have been phrased or said better.

Instead of unsending it, the new feature will let you preview what you just recorded and decide if you want to send it, or if you want a do over. It’s actually a pretty useful feature, especially for those who rely heavily on voice messages on WhatsApp, so if that’s you, then this could be a feature that you should be able to look forward to in the latest update to the app.

WhatsApp is definitely not the only app that allows for the sending of voice messages, but with the addition of this feature, it makes it a more compelling reason to use it, unless of course you’re uncomfortable with the fact that it’s owned by Meta.

Apple Removes References To CSAM Scanning From Its Website

Several months ago, Apple made a surprising announcement when they revealed their plans to implement a new photo scanning feature that would identify potential CSAM. The idea behind it was noble and obviously a good thing as it could crack down on these types of illegal content and activity, but at the same time, many users felt uncomfortable at the idea of Apple scanning their photos.

There was a lot of backlash to the announcement, and while Apple initially defended their decision, they slowly backtracked on it to the point where any reference to the feature has since been scrubbed from its website, as noted by Florian Schimanke.

According to the post, references to CSAM scans were still present on Apple’s website last Friday, but it now appears to have been removed. However, this does not mean that Apple is done with the feature. As 9to5Mac states, it is possible that Apple could have simply removed the references while they reworked their plan to better appease the masses.

Like we said, CSAM scanning is a good thing but there were concerns about the implications of the tech. This is because Apple would rely on the use of a hash to search for relevant data, and some believe it could potentially be abused by governments who might try to slip in other data to search for information and identify minority groups, political dissidents, political opponents, and more.

Whether or not the feature will ultimately return in a different form remains to be seen.

Weird Glitch Temporarily Turned Cryptocurrency Owners Into Millionaires

If you own cryptocurrency like bitcoin, there’s a good chance you’ve been watching the price of the crypto rise and fall. Depending on when you got into the game, you could be sitting on a small fortune, but it appears that due to a glitch on Coinbase and CoinMarketCap, it turned all cryptocurrency owners on the platforms into instant millionaires.

Basically, the glitch caused the displayed value of bitcoin to be worth $878 billion, and as a result, many owners were suddenly seeing their accounts rise into the millions, billions, and in some cases, trillions of dollars. It not only affected bitcoin, but it has also affected other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Ripple.

Unfortunately, this was obviously too good to be true and many had reached out to the platforms to ask them about it. In a tweet by Coinbase, the company said, “We’re aware some customers are seeing inflated values for non-tradable crypto assets on Coinbase.com and Coinbase Wallet. This is a display issue only and does not impact trading.”

CoinMarketCap also said that they are investigating what caused the pricing error and also denied that they might have been hacked. That being said, this seems to have only affected those two platforms and if you’re trading bitcoin on other exchanges, you probably weren’t affected.

iOS Update Now Lets Users Erase Locked iPhones Without Requiring A Computer Connection

If for whatever reason you forgot your iPhone’s passcode and you find yourself locked out of your iPhone, in the past, pretty much the only way you could “fix” this problem would be to erase the iPhone and wipe all of its contents. This is a security feature, but there was one problem and that it required your iPhone to be connected to a computer.

Usually this wouldn’t be much of an issue if you’re at home or at work, but what if you’re out? What if you don’t have immediate access to a computer? Turns out that in iOS 15.2, Apple has since introduced a new way for users to wipe and erase their iPhones without needing a connection to a computer.

This is only for devices that have been updated to iOS 15.2, so if you happen to be using an iPhone that isn’t updated, then you’ll still require a connection to a computer to wipe it. This is according to an updated support document on Apple’s website in which Apple provides users with the steps needed to erase their devices.

Keep in mind that users will need to have at least an internet connection, whether it be through cellular or WiFi, and also use the same Apple ID and password that they used to set up their device, so it’s not as though iPhone thieves will be able to snatch your devices and factory reset it for resale.
