Dell Wants To Make Laptops Easier To Repair And Easier To Recycle

When a company develops a gadget, obviously the important thing is that it has to work and do what it’s supposed to do. However, sometimes in a bid to save time and costs, some companies don’t really think about how the internals of a gadget are designed, as long as it works, that’s good enough for them.

However, in turn this can be a nightmare when it comes to repairing or recycling components, but that’s something that Dell wants to tackle with the Concept Luna. This is a collaboration with Intel in which Dell has designed a concept laptop that they believe is not only easier to repair, but will be easy when it comes to recycling as well.

This includes how Dell has reimagined the motherboard of the laptop which is 75% smaller and uses 20% less components. It also sits closer to the top cover to give it access to better cooling, and keeps it away from the batteries to allow for better passive cooling, which in turn means that it could potentially do away with the need for fans.

They also imagined how the laptop’s chassis will be built using aluminum that has been processed using hydro power and uses a stamped construction, and also reduce the number of screws to make it easier to access its internals. The company also suggests that the PCB could be made using bio-based materials, and also use water-soluble polymer glue to make it easier to remove components without damaging them.

That being said, as this is essentially a concept, there’s no telling if Dell plans to make it a reality, but it’s an interesting idea that maybe we could see more manufacturers adopt (at least in part) in the future.

LogMeIn Will Spin LastPass Off As A Standalone Company

If you’re familiar with password managers, then you might also be familiar with LastPass which is one of several password managers out there. The service is actually owned by LogMeIn who have recently announced that they will be spinning off LastPass to become a standalone company.

According to the announcement, “By establishing LastPass as a standalone business, the company plans to increase investment in the customer experience, go- to-market functions and engineering to accelerate its organic growth in password management, Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-factor Authentication (MFA). Customers will experience planned enhancements on an accelerated timeline in 2022, with the benefit of additional dedicated LastPass resources.”

As to what this will mean for regular users? Probably nothing, but the announcement that they plan to “accelerate” growth with dedicated resources sounds like a good thing. An accompanying post on the LastPass website also suggests that we could look forward to features like faster and seamless fills and saves of login information.

According to the post, “We are working on faster, seamless save and fill, a delightful mobile experience, and even more third-party integrations for businesses, among many other updates. We are expanding our support channels so we can answer your questions faster, right when you need them, and you’ll be welcomed by a new look and feel on our website.”

Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Accept Dogecoin As Payment For Some Merchandise

Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the company would start accepting bitcoin as payment for its cars. However, a few months later, the company changed their minds and Musk later suggested that environmental impact was the reason for this. He tweeted that the company would start accepting it again once miners start using more clean energy.

Now it seems that Tesla is accepting cryptocurrency once again, but not bitcoin, but dogecoin. Dogecoin is an altcoin that was initially created as a meme/joke, but it has somehow maintained its relevance years later. This is possibly due to Musk constantly tweeting about it, which in turn might have made more people interested in it.

However, you won’t be able to buy a Tesla with dogecoin just yet. According to Musk’s tweet, dogecoin will be accepted as payment but only for some merchandise, meaning like hats or t-shirts or whatever merch that Tesla sells. Musk’s tweet also sent the value of dogecoin skyrocketing by as much as 30%, but whether or not it’ll hold remains to be seen, but that’s the volatile nature of cryptocurrency.

What’s interesting about this is that Musk seems to be a huge proponent of dogecoin. A recent Time Magazine interview revealed that Tesla’s CEO believes that dogecoin is a better cryptocurrency to transact with versus bitcoin, which to him is more of a store of value rather than something you would buy and sell or transact with.

Twitter Will Now Automatically Caption Videos

Not all of us enjoy having good hearing. Some of us were born with hearing impairments, some of us might have had issues that resulted in the loss of hearing, which means that when it comes to watching videos, it can be tricky because it means that we cannot hear what is being spoken in the video.

This is why closed captions were invented, where it provides users who are hard of hearing with an alternative way to enjoy videos. That being said, the good news for Twitter users with hearing difficulties is that the platform has finally decided to roll out support for automatic captions. This means the videos uploaded to the platform will be captioned automatically.

According to Twitter, this feature will be made available globally and will cover “most languages”, so depending on your language, your mileage may vary, but hopefully it is covered. However, keep in mind that according to The Verge, Twitter says that automatic captioning will only apply to new videos uploaded to its platform. This means that older videos will not be getting this feature, so that’s a bit of a bummer.

Also, there doesn’t seem to be a way for users to report captioning that might be wrong or inaccurate, but hopefully that will change in the future. While primarily an accessibility feature, captions can also be useful if you want to watch a video but don’t want the sound to play.

Amazon’s IMDb TV App Has Arrived For The PS5

When it comes to streaming videos for free, there are various options that you can choose from. You don’t have to pay for streaming services like Netflix. One of those services is Amazon’s IMDb TV, and the good news is that if you’re looking for alternative ways of streaming videos from it, it looks like the PS5 will be one of those avenues.

The app had previously launched on Sony’s previous-gen PS4 console earlier this year, so for it to eventually make its way onto the PS5 wasn’t entirely out of the question. It is also available on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles, so like we said, coming to the PS5 was really only a matter of when, not if.

For those unfamiliar, the IMDb platform is home to more than just movie detail listings. With IMDb TV, Amazon is offering customers a way to stream videos for free. It will be ad-supported so you will have to put up with ads, but it is an on-demand service and you will have a bunch of shows to choose from.

This includes some original programming as well as access to shows and movies from other movie and TV studios such as AMC, NBC, and even some shows from Disney’s Direct-To-Consumer and International Division. Given that it’s free, we suppose it’s hard to complain, and could be a good way for you to enjoy content if you’re taking a break from gaming.

Kensington’s StudioDock Now Supports The 2021 iPad Pro

Earlier this year, Kensington launched the StudioDock for the iPad. It’s basically a stand that comes with a host of ports that lets you turn your iPad into a pseudo iMac of sorts. It is pretty cool, but unfortunately it does not support the 2021 iPad Pro due to the fact that the tablet is slightly thicker than its predecessors.

For those who own the 2021 iPad Pro, you’re in luck because Kensington has since announced that the StudioDock has been updated and will now support the 2021 iPad Pro with a new model.

In case you were wondering, the StudioDock connects to the iPad via a USB-C connector built into the right side of the dock. Due to the design of the dock, it could only accommodate earlier iPad models, but unfortunately the 0.5mm extra thickness of the 2021 iPad Pro meant that it would not fit. This new model has been slightly modified so it will be compatible.

As for the ports, we’re looking at three USB-A ports, a 4K HDMI 2.0 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and there will also be an SD card reader. There is also built-in wireless charging on the front for an iPhone and AirPods.

As for pricing, the StudioDock is not cheap starting at $380, but if you reckon that this will be immensely useful for your needs, then head on over to Kensington’s website for the details.

Matrix Resurrections' Mysterious Plot Points Teased by New Featurette

Morpheus said it best: “No one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.” That goes double for the upcoming fourth film in the franchise, The Matrix Resurrections. Even someone who has seen every single trailer, TV spot, or clip that’s been released so far probably can’t say for certain what the…

WhatsApp Bug Is Causing The iOS Version Of The App To Keep Crashing

If you’re using WhatsApp on your iPhone and you’ve discovered that the app keeps crashing for no reason, you’re not alone. This is because many users have taken to various social media platforms to report that they are finding that the iOS version of the app has been crashing rather frequently.

However, what’s strange about this issue is that WhatsApp hasn’t issued any major updates recently to suggest that it could be a bug with the app, and it seems that the beta version found in TestFlight is crashing as well. This has led to speculation that the reason behind this crash is due to issues with Meta’s servers that could be the reason why the app is crashing.

WhatsApp has yet to officially comment or acknowledge the issue, and there doesn’t seem to be any particular workaround for the problem which means that if you rely heavily on WhatsApp for your chats, then you might be slightly inconvenienced until WhatsApp finally addresses the issue, which hopefully won’t take the company too long to fix.

It is unclear how widespread this problem is because on my end, at this time of writing, there are no issues for me so we’re not sure if this is affecting all WhatsApp users or just some. Either way hopefully a fix will come soon.
