Tile’s New Owner Is Reportedly Selling Location Data To Anyone Who Wants To Buy It
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs you might have heard, Bluetooth tracker company Tile will be selling themselves off and will be acquired by Life360. It sounds like it might be a good thing as it means that Tile could now have access to more resources, better distribution, and so on. However, it seems that it might not be good news for Tile owners.
This is because according to a report from Markup, they have heard from their sources that Life360 is apparently selling the location data of their users to pretty much anyone who wants to buy it. For those unfamiliar, Life360 is a company that develops a tracking platform that can be used by families to keep an eye on their kids, elderly family members, and so on.
As expected, it would require a lot of location data to keep track of those family members, and this report claims that the company is using this data to sell to third-party companies that are ten used for marketing campaigns. Life360’s CEO Chris Hulls had previously said that data is an important part of their business model that allows them to offer free services to users.
He also says that there are privacy policies in place to prevent users from being identified through this data. Hulls claims that they have no plans to sell data from Tile devices, but given the company’s practices, it does raise some doubts, especially about the future should Life360 ever change their minds.

Some SD Cards Aren’t Working With Apple’s 2021 14-inch, 16-inch MacBook Pros
Posted in: Today's ChiliAfter years of users complaining and begging, Apple has finally brought back the SD card reader to the MacBook Pro. This is a huge win because it makes the lives of creative professionals so much easier as they can plug their SD cards directly into the laptop without having to rely on adapters and hubs.
However, it seems that it isn’t a complete win. According to multiple reports in the MacRumors forums, it seems that there are quite a number of users who are having issues with it where the SD card reader isn’t recognizing their SD cards at all. Some users have tried to reformat their cards with the MacBook Pro but to no avail.
Some users claim that it can take as long as a minute for the laptop to even recognize their card, and even when it does, they are sometimes greeted with an error message. At the moment it is unclear what the common thread is because users have tried with a variety of brands, models, and storage sizes, some of which work, and some of which don’t.
However, it is speculated that there could be an issue with the SD card reader itself. This is because users claim that when attaching an external card reader through the USB-C port of the 2021 MacBook Pros, it works just fine. If you are experiencing a similar problem, then maybe try taking your laptop back to Apple or if you don’t have the time, you can try using an external card reader in the meantime.

Right now, Apple has pretty much given its entire Mac lineup the Apple Silicon treatment. There are two computers missing from that list and that is the larger iMac and also the Mac Pro, but that will change in 2022 as Apple is expected to launch five new Mac computers, two of which will be the higher-end iMac and the Mac Pro.
This is according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter where he claims that in addition to the iMac and Mac Pro, Apple will also be refreshing the Mac mini, the MacBook Air, and will also be introducing an entry-level MacBook Pro.
The MacBook Air refresh is kind of to be expected since the last time we saw it was in 2020, so it is due for a refresh. As for the Mac mini, we have heard rumors that Apple could be planning a more “Pro” version with increased performance, but the entry-level MacBook Pro is kind of interesting.
We have heard rumors that Apple could also be working on a high-end MacBook Air, but it is possible that maybe this model could actually be referring to the entry-level MacBook Pro, which for its base models already sits above the Air in terms of feature and performance. It would also be a good alternative for customers who might need some of the power the MacBook Pros have to offer but can’t afford to spend quite as much.
In any case, it’s probably best to take this report with a grain of salt, but if you are planning on getting a new Mac in 2022, then these are five potential models to keep an eye out for.
