Apple’s M3 Chipset Could Be Built On TSMC’s 3nm Process

Initial reviews and benchmarks of Apple’s M1 and M1 Max and Pro chipsets have been largely positive, so even if you aren’t necessarily a fan of Apple’s products, it’s still kind of exciting to see what future M-series chipsets can do as Apple continues to further develop on the technology.

That being said, the M3 lineup could actually be one to look forward to because according to a report from DigiTimes, TSMC has started pilot production of chips built on the 3nm process and will most likely make its debut in 2023. While we don’t fully know what kind of features the M3 could come with, a smaller process already offers up various advantages and benefits such as being faster and also more energy efficient.

This isn’t to say that the M2 chipset that is rumored for 2022 will be bad, but rather a chipset built on the 3nm would be a lot more exciting. Apple has also been rumored to have planned a 3nm chipset for their iPhones, but due to issues, that is only expected in 2023, so it’s not surprising that is when Apple would debut the 3nm M3 as well.

Obviously you should take this with a grain of salt for now since 2023 is still quite a ways away, but it might be something to look forward to as far as technological advances are concerned.

IKEA Could Be Working On A Wireless Power Bank

IKEA is no stranger when it comes to wireless charging. The company already offers a variety of wireless charging options, but the problem is that they require a power source. However, it seems that IKEA could actually be developing their own wireless charging power bank.

According to a report from German publication mobiFlip, it seems that IKEA has started to sell these power banks at their store in Cologne. As you can see in the photo above (sent to them by one of their readers), it features a fabric top with the “+” symbol on it that you might find on other IKEA wireless chargers. The report claims it will sport a 6,500mAh battery so it should be good enough to charge most phones up to full.

However, there are a couple of things to note and that is it does not come with a cable which means you’ll have to supply your own USB-C cable if you want to recharge it, but since USB-C has become the standard these days, we reckon it shouldn’t be a problem. Also, another thing to note is that it charges at 5W which is kind of slow, so if you’re in a rush, this probably wouldn’t cut it.

The upside though is that it seems that the batteries in the charger are user-replaceable, so if it starts losing its charge, you should be able to replace it later on. The charger is said to be priced at €20, although it is unclear if there are plans to eventually sell the charger in other markets.

Meta Testing A Way To Split Bills Using Facebook Messenger

If you’re trying to figure out how to split a bill when you’re eating out with friends, factoring in service tax, tips, and so on, there are various ways you can do it. However, it seems that Meta is hoping to make the process easier by introducing a bill splitting feature into the Facebook Messenger app.

According to Meta, “Next week for Messenger fans in the US, we’re starting to test Split Payments, a free and fast way to share the cost of bills and expenses. To use Split Payments, click the “Get Started” button in a group chat or the Payments Hub in Messenger.”

“From there, you can split a bill evenly or modify the contribution amount for each individual — with or without yourself included. After entering a personalized message and confirming your Facebook Pay details, your request will be sent and viewable in your group chat thread.”

This means that not only will this help you split the bill, but you will also be able to send and receive the money using Facebook Pay, thus making it easier for you to do everything within a single app.

Since Facebook Pay isn’t a feature that’s available around the world, we’re not sure if there are plans to roll this out on a wider scale in the future.

Intellect and Romance Over Brute Force and Cynicism

Some of you may remember the quote “intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism” from Craig Ferguson’s outstanding tribute to Doctor Who on the old (and far superior) The Late Late Show. But thinking back—on what is to be my last day running io9—I think it sums up how I’ve felt about working here for the last…

Car Thieves In Canada Are Using AirTags To Track Down Their Targets

Apple’s AirTag is a useful tracker if you’re trying to locate keys that were misplaced, bags, and so on. However, it seems that car thieves in Canada are getting pretty creative with it by attaching the tracker to cars that they plan to steal, track it, and then steal it.

This is according to a warning released by Ontario-area York Regional Police in which they have identified this method used by thieves to steal high-end vehicles. It seems that these thieves are hiding the trackers in a place that might be out of sight, such as the car’s tow hitch or fuel cap so that it will go unnoticed.

Now, to be fair, Apple is aware of the potential for the AirTag to be used as a tool to stalk or track others without their permission, so much so that they do have anti-stalker features built into it. For example, one of the ways is that when an AirTag is attached to you and it isn’t paired to your device, your iPhone will alert you to its presence after a certain period of time.

However, the problem is that not everyone owns an iPhone which means that in some cases, it could be used to track someone without their knowledge. According to the York Regional Police, they have linked the AirTags to five thefts over the past two months, and suggest that this could be a growing problem in the future.

Sony Could Be Working On A PlayStation Equivalent To Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft’s Xbox platform has a subscription service called Xbox Game Pass which is basically like the Netflix of games. Subscribing to Game Pass will give users access to a library of games that they can play whenever they want for a fixed price every month. This is obviously cheaper compared to purchasing individual titles, but you might not necessarily have access to the latest games.

That being said, it seems that Sony could be developing something similar of their own. This is according to a report from Bloomberg in which they claim that Sony is apparently developing a similar service codenamed “Spartacus” in which it would essentially offer up the same features as Xbox Game Pass.

However, it seems that this could be slightly different in the sense that it would offer three different tiers for users to choose from. The first tier will offer up features similar to PlayStation Plus, so we’re not sure if this could result in PlayStation Plus being retired in favor of this. The second tier will unlock a catalog of games similar to Game Pass, while the third tier will offer extended demos, game streaming, and access to a larger library, which in part sounds like Game Pass Ultimate.

The upcoming service is said to be launching in the spring of 2022 but when exactly remains to be seen, bu if you’re a PS gamer, this could be worth looking forward to.

Twitter Will No Longer Allow You To Post Photos Of Other People Without Their Consent

Twitter allows users to post photos as long as they don’t violate the company’s policies. However, it seems that those policies will now extend to photos of people. This is according to an announcement by Twitter in which they are essentially banning people from posting photos of other people unless they have their explicit consent.

According to Twitter, “This policy update will help curb the misuse of media to harass, intimidate, and reveal the identities of private individuals, which disproportionately impacts women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities.” The company notes that photos taken of people from public events will generally not violate this policy, so basically this will cover photos taken of people privately.

It does not seem that Twitter will be actively seeking out photos posted on its platform to check whether or not it violates their guidelines, and will instead rely on first-person reports and then review it, meaning that even if an image is reported, there is a chance it might not necessarily be taken down.

The company notes, “We will take into consideration whether the image is publicly available and/or is being covered by journalists—or if a particular image and the accompanying Tweet text adds value to the public discourse—is being shared in public interest or is relevant to the community.”
