In many places around the world, plans for New Year’s Eve celebrations were muted or cancelled for the second year due to coronavirus infections.
Prince Andrew wasn’t on trial in the Ghislaine Maxwell sex trafficking case but her conviction is bad news for the man who is ninth in line to the British throne.
The CDC said it has more than 90 cruise ships under investigation or observation as a result of COVID-19 cases fueled by the omicron variant.
Before I joined the cult of iPhone, of which I have happily been a member of for many years now, my first big phone purchase was a BlackBerry. Time made it as slow as a turtle, and it began its new life in a drawer in one of the many apartments and houses I’ve lived in. Over the years, I forgot about BlackBerry…
Brandon Brown, the NASCAR driver who unintentionally helped originate the viral rightwing chant “Let’s Go Brandon” (which many people believe means “Fuck Joe Biden”), has decided to partner with a memecoin based on the slogan.
The early days of the smartphone era was a bit of a mess. There were so many companies all competing for a slice of the pie at the same time. BlackBerry was one of those companies where they managed to retain a loyal following for many years, but as Apple’s iPhones and Google’s Android platform eventually became the dominant platforms, BlackBerry kind of fell by the wayside.
The company tried to find ways around this by licensing out their brand, but those devices felt like they were too little, too late, so much so that it doesn’t come as a surprise that BlackBerry has ultimately decided to call it quits on the mobile front. The company has announced that come 4th of January, 2022, they will be discontinuing the various key services that supported its mobile devices.
According to the company’s FAQ page, “As another milestone in the BlackBerry journey, we will be taking steps to decommission the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions, with an end of life or termination date of January 4, 2022. As of this date, devices running these legacy services and software through either carrier or Wi-Fi connections will no longer reliably function, including for data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality.”
BlackBerry itself as a company isn’t shutting down. The company continues to operate and according to the FAQ, their focus will be on “providing intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world”.

When the AirPods were first announced, many made fun of the earbuds, its design, and its price. However, fast forward to today, they are some of the best-selling accessories and have since spawned new versions and Pro iterations. We imagine that sound isn’t necessarily the selling point here, but rather the ease of use and connection with Apple products.
That being said, what else could Apple do to improve on it? It turns out that maybe finding a new wireless protocol could be it. This is what Gary Geaves seems to hint at that. Geaves, for those unfamiliar, is Apple’s VP of Acoustics and helped lead the team that was responsible for creating the AirPods.
Speaking to What HiFi in an interview, Geaves was asked if maybe Bluetooth could be one of the reasons holding back the AirPods and its sound quality, to which the Apple exec seemed to hint that it was. According to Geaves:
“Obviously the wireless technology is critical for the content delivery that you talk about, but also things like the amount of latency you get when you move your head, and if that’s too long, between you moving your head and the sound changing or remaining static, it will make you feel quite ill, so we have to concentrate very hard on squeezing the most that we can out of the Bluetooth technology, and there’s a number of tricks we can play to maximise or get around some of the limits of Bluetooth. But it’s fair to say that we would like more bandwidth and… I’ll stop right there. We would like more bandwidth”
We’re not sure if Geaves’ comments suggests that Apple could be working on their own proprietary wireless technology or leveraging some other tech to improve on the AirPods, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

If you’re a Telegram user who feels that maybe the service is still lacking a bit compared to other services, then you might be interested in the latest update to the app. The developers behind the app have managed to push out one final update before 2021 closes and it brings a ton of new features to the app.
This includes reactions, which allow users to attach emojis to messages they’ve received, similar to reactions you might find on Facebook Messenger and Apple’s iMessage. There is also a new spoiler feature where people can talk about things in a group chat, like movies, and have the text be hidden.
This means that users can safely discuss topics and if someone else in the group hasn’t seen the movie, they won’t get any spoilers unless they tap on it to unhide it. Last but not least, Telegram is also introducing a translation feature. This will let you chat with people in other languages and have it translated within the app.
There are other apps like WeChat that already support translation, so this isn’t really anything new, but like we said, for those who use Telegram as their daily driver for messaging, these updates are probably a welcome one.

Doctor Strange 2's Release Date Shift Changed Spider-Man: No Way Home's Plot
Posted in: Today's ChiliRelease dates rarely, if ever, have an impact on storytelling. Maybe a movie is set during a specific holiday so a studio wants to release it around that time of year. But even then, you can watch a Halloween or Christmas movie anytime you want. One place where release dates have everything to do with story, though,…
