A Stealth Bomber Was Spotted On Google Maps

Stealth planes are stealthy not so much because they can actually turn invisible, but rather they are designed in such a way that it makes it difficult, if not impossible, for them to be picked up on a radar system. However, of course if you see one in the skies, then obviously it’s going to be there.

That was something that eagle-eyed Redditor u/Hippowned discovered when they were looking on Google Maps, where they discovered what appears to be a stealth bomber in flight. The image is slightly blurry and has some weird red, green, and blue artifacts surrounding the plane itself.

However, this is a result of satellite images and how they are captured. Also, Google pulls from a variety of sources for their images, so that could also explain why it’s not exactly in focus. As for this particular frame, it appears to have been taken by a satellite of Maxar Technologies. While planes have been spotted on Google Maps before, this is actually the first time a stealth plane was spotted mid-flight.

It’s actually something of a rarity to see planes on Google Maps as they typically move too fast for the satellites to capture them, so it’s actually pretty cool. Over the years, people have discovered all kinds of weird images on Google Maps. Some people have even tried to insert themselves into Street View by posing whenever they see a Google car drive by.

iOS 16 Could Drop Support For The iPhone 6s

With every major iOS update, Apple sometimes ends up dropping support for some of its older phones. With that being said, it seems that time could be running out for the iPhone 6s. This is according to French publication iPhonesoft.fr who claims that with iOS 16, Apple could be dropping support for the iPhone 6s series and the first-gen iPhone SE.

The iPhone 6s was originally released back in 2015 which means that by next year, it will be 7 years old which by smartphone standards is considered to be practically ancient. This means that for the past 7 years, Apple has been supporting the handset which is longer than the majority of Android smartphones who usually get 2-3 years of major updates and up to 5 years for security updates.

Keep in mind that just because the iPhone 6s won’t get iOS 16, it doesn’t mean that the phone will no longer work, it’s just that you won’t get access to the changes and improvements that iOS 16 will bring to the table. That being said, with the phone’s hardware being so old, we’re not sure how well iOS 16 would run on the phone anyway.

In any case, if you are holding onto a 7-year old smartphone, we reckon it’s probably due for an upgrade anyway!

iPhone 15 Could Come With A Folding Lens Camera

Next year, Apple will be launching the iPhone 14, and presumably the year after they’ll be launching the iPhone 15. We’re still not 100% sure on the details of the iPhone 14, but according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it appears that details about the iPhone 15 are already starting to leak.

According to an investor’s note by the analyst, he claims that the iPhone 15 is expected to utilize a folding lens camera design, also known as a periscope camera. Traditional cameras rely on light beamed onto a sensor, but with a periscope camera, it still relies on light, but instead of the light directly beaming onto the sensor, it’s passed through a prism first.

The main reason why smartphones would utilize a periscope camera system is because smartphones are too thin. Unlike a traditional camera where the lens and body are pretty big, there is no need for a periscope system to bounce light through a prism as there is enough space. But since smartphones are thin, a periscope system is essentially a workaround.

Ultimately, this is said to allow for much further zoom capabilities that don’t rely on digital zoom (which is essentially cropping an image). Apple’s iPhone zoom capabilities aren’t exactly the best right now, but a periscope system could potentially allow Apple to address that. In any case, we’re still two years away before anything can truly be confirmed, so do treat this report with a healthy dose of skepticism for now.

T-Mobile says it blocked 21 billion scam calls in 2021

T-Mobile announced that scam call traffic more than doubled in 2021 with attempts hitting an average of 425 million calls every week, Bleeping Computer reported. It also said that it blocked over 21 billion of those calls for T-Mobile customers through December 2021 (over 700 calls per second) via its Scam Shield service.

Over half the 21 billion calls were related to fake vehicle warranty scams, while others impersonated Social Security employees, wireless providers, car insurance companies and package delivery. Scammers’ preferred locations were Texas, Florida, Arizona and Georgia, with the most targeted area code being the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

T-Mobile launched its Scam Shield service last year, promising protection for all users regardless of their plan. You can choose to either screen calls as “scam likely”‘ when a call comes in, or block them altogether using a variety of methods, as T-Mobile details in its blog post

AT&T and Verizon also released stats for scam calls, with AT&T saying its ActiveArmor service has blocked over 16 billion suspicious calls since 2016. Verizon, meanwhile, revealed that around 78 million of its customers were protected from 13 billion unwanted calls by its Verizon Call Filter service.

Apple Silicon To Be Upgraded On An 18 Month Cycle

Apple first announced the Apple Silicon chipset series in 2020, and then they launched the M1 towards the end of last year. However, many who expected to see the M2 this year were instead greeted with a souped up version of the M1 in the form of the M1 Max and Pro, so what gives?

According to a report from Taiwan’s Commercial Times, they are now suggesting that Apple is expected to adopt an 18 month cycle when it comes to Apple Silicon upgrades. This means that instead of annual upgrades like we’ve seen in the A-series chipsets that we found in the iPhone, Apple will only upgrade the M-series every 1.5 years.

This seems to be more or less in line with the rumors about the M2, which many are expecting to launch in 2022. Given that the first model was launched in 2020, it will be roughly 1.5 years in between. The report goes on to claim that Apple will continue to use the current strategy, which is to release Pro and Max versions of the Apple Silicon in between upgrade cycles, meaning that we might see the M2 Max and Pro either by the end of 2022 or early 2023.

This is one of the advantages that Apple by making their own chipsets. Instead of relying on already-available tech from Intel, and be subject to any potential delays, the company can now choose to develop and release its own tech on their own schedule.

TikTok Testing Out A Repost Button

Back then if you wanted to repost something on social media like Instagram, you’d have to download it onto your device and reupload it. However, these days reposting has become pretty common and there are now built-in functions that let you do that with a tap or two, streamlining the process.

For those of you who use TikTok and would like to see a reposting feature, you’ll be happy to learn that it could be on its way. This is according to a tweet by Matt Navarra who discovered that TikTok is now testing out a repost button. Presumably what this does is that you can watch a TikTok video and repost it.

At this point in time it is unclear how this feature works and where you’ll be able to repost the video to. Unlike Instagram where users can repost photos or videos into their Stories, TikTok does not have such a feature, at least not yet. It is possible that this reposting feature could launch alongside the company’s own Stories-like feature, and that’s where reposted TikTok videos could go.

There is currently no word on when either feature is expected to be available to all users, but for now it looks like it is quite limited in its availability due to testing, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see it in your TikTok app just yet.
