HP Unveils New Dragonfly Windows And Chromebook Laptops

If you’re shopping for a new laptop, CES is probably one of the best places to keep an eye out for new laptop announcements. At CES 2022, HP has actually unveiled a couple of new laptops under its Dragonfly range which are aimed at business users, and there will be two versions to choose from.

One of which is the HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook, which as the name suggests will be powered by Google’s Chrome OS. It is powered by Intel’s 12th Gen processors and will also be the first Chromebook to support Intel’s vPro platform. It will support as much as 32GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and will have a 51Whr battery that can charge up to 90% in 90 minutes.

Then there is also the Dragonfly G3, which is a more “traditional” Windows-based laptop. It too will be powered by Intel’s 12th Gen processor and will also support up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. It will come with a larger 68Whr battery and will also utilize AI in its software to help make your conference calls better.

No word on pricing for either laptop just yet, but the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is expected to be available this coming March, while the Chromebook version is slated for April, so we should have more details about pricing then.

Satechi Unveils 165W Four Port USB-C GaN Charger

The problem with some chargers, especially laptop chargers, is that they can be rather bulky and heavy. This is because some laptops require more power than others in order to keep it charged up. This also means that bringing it around with you can be troublesome, but that’s something that GaN charging tech is hoping to solve.

If you’re after a new charger that can not only charge your laptop but other devices without being overly bulky, Satechi has unveiled their new 165W USB-C GaN charger at CES 2022. This charger also supports PD on all four ports and according to Satechi, will be powerful enough to charge Apple’s latest M1 MacBook Pro laptop.

The other remaining ports can also be used to charge other small items that don’t need that much juice, such as a smartphone, a smartwatch, and maybe even a tablet. What’s interesting about this charger is that Satechi is also including a small mount/dock which means that instead of the charger lying on the floor awkwardly, you can prop it up and have easy access to the USB-C ports when you wish.

That being said, it doesn’t exactly come cheap. It is priced at $120 which for some is a lot to pay for a charger, but the small form factor, the efficiency of GaN, plus the multiple USB-C ports could make it the perfect traveling companion.

IKEA Quietly Refreshes Its Symfonisk Bookshelf Speakers

A few years ago, IKEA and Sonos entered into a partnership which resulted in the Symfonisk bookshelf speakers. For those unfamiliar, these are essentially speakers that were made by Sonos, but featured an IKEA design meant to help blend it into one’s living room or bedroom so that it doesn’t look out of place.

It has been a few years since the speakers launched, but it appears that both companies decided it was time for an update, as spotted by Dutch website Tweakers. This has resulted in a new version of the Symfonisk speakers being launched where it now sports a slightly updated sign, but also comes with an upgraded processor under the hood, more memory, better power efficiency, and a longer power cable that will give users more flexibility in its placement.

It can also be paired with older Symfonisk speakers if you’re looking to create a stereo effect. Other than that, the rest of the speaker’s hardware will remain the same, meaning it will continue to use 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi for wireless connectivity and streaming, along with support for AirPlay 2 for Apple users.

Right now it appears to be only available in the Netherlands where it is priced at 100 euros each. There is no word on when it will launch in other markets, but seeing as the current models are available in various parts of the world, we don’t see why this would be any different.

The ability for a car to drive itself without supervision from a human is an interesting prospect that many feel will usher in a much safer era for our highways around the country. Model Brooks Nader says someone used an AirTag to track her

Although Apple’s AirTags can be useful for helping find lost belongings, ever since the tracker went on sale last spring, critics have raised concerns that bad actors could use it to stalk people. Brooks Nader, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, claims someone secretly placed an AirTag in her coat and tracked her movements for several hours.

Earlier this week, Nader was waiting alone for someone at a crowded bar in Tribeca with her coat on the chair behind her. She then visited a couple of other bars with friends.

Nader, who shared her experience on Instagram Stories, said that while she was walking home alone, her phone alerted her to the fact that “someone’s tracking you and has been for a while.” She then found the AirTag. Nader, who wasn’t aware of AirTags beforehand, called the incident “the scariest moment ever and I just want everyone to be aware that this exists.”

It’s not the first time that AirTags have been used to track other people’s movements. Reports have emerged about thieves using them to follow and steal high-end cars. However, the Nader incident is a high-profile one that should draw more attention to the issue.

“We take customer safety very seriously and are committed to AirTag’s privacy and security. AirTag is designed with a set of proactive features to discourage unwanted tracking — a first in the industry — that both inform users if an unknown AirTag might be with them, and deter bad actors from using an AirTag for nefarious purposes,” an Apple spokesperson told Engadget. “If users ever feel their safety is at risk, they are encouraged to contact local law enforcement who can work with Apple to provide any available information about the unknown AirTag.”

Soon after Apple launched the AirTag, it rolled out the iPhone notification Nader mentioned to inform users that someone may be tracking them. In December, the company released an Android app called Tracker Detect, which alerts users to nearby AirTags that are away from their owner and could be on their person. However, since Find My isn’t part of Android, you’d need to know about the app and have it installed to detect a hidden AirTag.

OnePlus 10 Pro Practically Launched at CES

The OnePlus 10 Pro is the most powerful smartphone “announced” at CES 2022. OnePlus says it will officially launch a little bit later in the month, but the company has released enough information that we know exactly what to expect.

This high-end phone comes with a top Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 hardware platform which we talked about extensively in our Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 overview. That’s in contrast to other handsets announced at the show as they came with last year’s hardware or budget platforms.

I like the new matte design with the neat camera module integration. It’s fair to say that OnePlus is following Samsung a bit here as it is reminiscent of the excellent S21 design, but with a OnePlus twist, which I like.

We know that the display will have a 120Hz OLED display, but its resolution or size was not yet confirmed. Most observers suspect that we’ll find a 6.7-inches screen when all the details are revealed.

OnePlus did mention a 5000 mAh battery and up to 80W/50W of charging power (wired/wireless) which is extremely fast, making it one of the best handsets for battery life, on paper.

The camera was designed with the participation of Hasselblad, and it looks like the famous camera company contributed with tuning and filters.

The camera hardware is not far off OnePlus’s previous high-end phone, with three camera modules 48MP primary + 50MP ultrawide + 8MP telephoto.

I like the emphasis on Ultrawide photo quality, and that’s a wide choice because Ultrawide is incredibly popular, so much more than Macro, for example.

We’ll have to see how its CAMERA HW score turns out to be, but things look promising.

However, it looks like there’s going to be a strong emphasis on “pro” aspects of the camera software, which entails more manual control options and saving photos in RAW Plus format for maximum data preservation.

OnePlus is expected to reveal everything on or around Jan 10 as the phone officially launches in China at that time.
