Yoga 9i Gen 7 Is Lenovo’s New Top Consumer Laptop

Unlike the ThinkPad laptops, the Yoga series is consumer-oriented, focusing on excellent multimedia user experience, fun ergonomics, and good looks.

The hallmark feature of this new Yoga 9i Gen 7 ($1,399+) remains its nearly unbeatable soundbar that directs the sound energy straight to the user, regardless of which of the five multimode positions the laptop is in. If you wonder, the “i” corresponds to “Intel.”

We expect the sound quality to be at least on par with its predecessors, and this design is fundamentally great because of how audio physics work.

The overall industrial design also got a great refresh. Lenovo has added curves. Holding this laptop should feel gentler and soft to the touch. Previously, Lenovo used sharp angles, but it might have felt a bit rough for some users. I didn’t think there was an issue, though.

Lenovo has added a new key column to the right with quick-functions such as Light/Dark Mode, High Performance, and other switches.

You can choose between a 12th generation Intel Core i5-1240P or i7-1260P CPU, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB PCIe gen4 SSD. These specs show the laptop isn’t designed for maximum Creative design performance but rather for excellent multimedia and productivity speed.

There are no full-size USB ports but two Thunderbolt 4 ports with USB-C connectors.

The Yoga 9i benefits from security features in the ThinkPad professional line. For example, its Human Sensing knows when you walk away and locks itself up to prevent someone else from using the computer.

Finally, you get excellent 14-inch display options with a base full HD model that reproduces 100% of the sRGB color gamut. But I’d recommend looking at the 3K and 4K OLED options that are probably magnificent and support 100% of the P3 color gamut. That’s pro-level color reproduction.

If your budget is slightly smaller, Lenovo has also launched more affordable Yoga laptops, such as the Yoga 7i and the Yoga 6.

The Lenovo Yoga 7i retains some aspects of the Yoga 9i, has 14- and 16-inches display options, but no soundbar. The Yoga 6 is an affordable 13-inch laptop ($749+) made of 50% recycled plastics and Aluminum if you want to help make the world a cleaner place.

By the way, it’s the 10-year anniversary of the Lenovo Yoga line of products!

Shoddy coding has some Honda cars stuck in the year 2002

Some Honda cars owners have recently found themselves in something of a time loop. Since the start of the year, the automaker’s forums have been flooded with reports of people complaining that the clocks and calendars in their vehicles are stuck in the year 2002.

The issue appears to be widespread. It’s affecting Honda and Acura models with GPS navigation systems manufactured between 2004 and 2012, and there have been reports of people encountering the problem in the US, Canada and UK. What’s more, there doesn’t appear to a fix at the moment. Each time someone starts their car, the clock resets – even if they went to manually set it beforehand.

“Honda is aware of a potential concern related to the clock display on certain older Acura and Honda models equipped with navigation systems,” a spokesperson for the automaker told Jalopnik. “We are currently investigating this issue to determine possible countermeasures and have no additional details to share at this time.”

The problem appears to stem from a coding oversight. When a GPS satellite broadcasts the date, it does so using a binary 10 digit number that includes a reference to the week. A single GPS epoch includes 1023 weeks, with the system rolling over on week 1,024. After the first GPS systems started counting time in 1980, they rolled over in 1999, and then again in 2019. If a system isn’t properly coded to account for those rollovers, what can happen is exactly what we’re seeing here with Honda’s vehicles: they go back to when the calendar started.

Humorously, this isn’t the first time Honda car owners have run into this problem. Back in 2017, Honda and Acura models from 1999 to 2004 with navigation systems had their clocks reset to 1998. The same issue cropped up more recently in 2021. In both instances, the clocks went back exactly 1,024 weeks. Time knows how to make a mockery of everyone, but it would seem it has a special place for Honda’s software developers.

Ford E-Scooter Company Spin Is Leaving ‘Free-for-All’ Markets and Laying Off 25% of Staff

Ford’s e-scooter company Spin has decided to restructure and leave some U.S. cities and European countries where there are apparently just too many scooters, which makes it difficult to make a profit. The move means the company will part ways with a significant number of its employees.

Mario Kart 9 Reportedly In Development With A New Twist

It has been a long time since we saw a new Mario Kart title. The last major title was Mario Kart 8 which was originally released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2014, and then an enhanced Deluxe version was then released for the Nintendo Switch back in 2017, so we’re not sure if we can really count that.

That being said, for those who are looking forward to seeing a new major title released in the series, you could be in luck. According to analyst Dr. Serkan Toto, he wrote a prediction for Gamesindustry.biz in which he claimed that Mario Kart 9 is apparently in development, and that Nintendo could actually tease the game later this year.

The analyst goes on to add that the game is expected to feature a new twist, although that revelation in itself isn’t that much of a twist since Nintendo usually introduces new elements in new titles to help keep things interesting and exciting. For example, there was the introduction of two-character karts and also anti-gravity features in some of the previous titles.

We’re not sure if the new Mario Kart 9 will be launching on the Switch or the next iteration of the Switch. There have long been rumors about Nintendo working on a “Pro” version of the console, something that the company has denied time after time, but given the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S now being in the market, it would make sense that Nintendo could be planning new hardware to keep up.

Model Says AirTag Was Used To Track And Stalk Her For Five Hours

Apple’s AirTag tracking accessory is surprisingly affordable for something with an Apple brand slapped onto it. It is also surprisingly good at what it does, but it seems that its effectiveness and cheap price has created a bit of a privacy nightmare for Apple and its users.

According to Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooks Nader, in a post on Instagram, the model says that on Wednesday night, someone had slipped an AirTag into her coat pocket which let them track and stalk the model for about five hours that night as she went bar-hopping in New York City.

She was only alerted after a notification appeared on her iPhone that an unknown accessory was moving with her, and she only discovered the AirTag in her coat when she got home. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the AirTag being abused for uses beyond what Apple had intended.

We’ve seen how the accessory has been used to tag expensive vehicles so that thieves can follow it and steal it later. We’ve also heard of it being used for stalking, and while Apple does have anti-stalking features built into it, we can’t help but feel that maybe it takes too long to activate. Hopefully this is something that Apple is looking into.

Hotel Chain Converts Windows PCs To Chrome OS After Ransomware Attack

Ransomware attacks are becoming pretty common these days. This is when a computer downloads a malware that then encrypts the entire drive or network, and then to decrypt it, hackers would demand a ransom before they hand over the encryption key, if not all the data would be lost for good.

This is what happened over in Scandinavia, Finland to the Nordic Choice Hotels, a large chain of hotels in the country. The ransomware attack basically crippled their systems, but instead of paying to remove the malware, what the hotel did was basically convert their Windows PCs into Chrome OS devices which solved the issue.

This was done using the CloudReady software that Google had acquired back in 2020. Basically what it does is it allows older Windows PCs that may no longer be used to be turned into Chrome OS devices. This is what the hotel did where they managed to convert about 2,000 Windows laptops into Chrome OS laptops in about 48 hours.

This is said to have been a faster solution compared to trying to clean all the computers of the virus. This is because the changes can be made from the head office, versus cleaning each computer that would have required people to travel to each hotel to work on it.
