Twitter's experimental 'Flock' feature will let you share tweets with your closest friends

Twitter is still working on a feature that will give you a way to blast tweets that can only be seen by the friends you choose. In July last year, the social network revealed that it’s considering letting you designate “trusted friends” so some tweets would only be visible to them. Now, developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi has unearthed evidence that the feature is currently in development and that Twitter now calls it “Flock.”

It might be called differently if it gets a wider release, though — the company told The Verge that “Flock” is just a placeholder name. Based on the explanation that Paluzzi found, its current iteration will let you add up to 150 users to your list, and they’ll be the only ones who can see and respond to tweets you send to the group. Any tweet you send to your Flock will be come with a notice telling your audience that they can see it because you’ve added them to the group. You can edit the group anytime, though, and Twitter says it won’t notify anyone you remove.

When the company first revealed that it’s considering adding a trusted friends feature, it also presented another concept that would allow you to take on different personas within the same account. It’s unclear if that version of the feature is no longer in development. Twitter is also testing a feature called Communities that gives you a dedicated space for groups of people with the same interests. Flock, however, was designed with your real friends in mind, similar to Instagram’s Close Friends for Stories. In its statement sent to The Verge, Twitter said it’s “always working on new ways to help people engage in healthy conversations, and [it’s] currently exploring ways to let people share more privately.”

After a very strong second half of 2021, we’re now seeing what seems to be an endless downward trend as the crypto market crash continues. Be it Bitcoin, Ethereum, or another kind of crypto, currencies are plummeting one after another with only brief reprieves that happen on a case-by-case basis. Is this going to … Continue reading

These systems use various types of sensors to monitor road conditions around the vehicle, providing functions like automated lane changing and adaptive cruise control (ACC). According to the IIHS, there’s no evidence to support the idea that partial automation actually increases … Continue reading

Some have tried to employ gimmicks to get their products noticed, while others have tried to tempt consumers with cheaper prices. Not all of these methods work, however, and some people are left with buyer’s … Continue reading

Google Pixel Watch Could Be Announced In May

For years, we’ve been hearing about Google’s potential plans to launch their own Pixel-branded smartwatch. The company has been actively developing its own smartwatch platform, which they revamped last year with the help of Samsung, but to date they have yet to actually launch anything.

However, according to a report from Jon Prosser, he tweets that he has heard that Google is planning on launching the device on the 26th of May, 2022. Given that Google usually hosts its I/O event towards the middle part of the year, with last year’s event taking place in May, this means that the smartwatch could be announced at I/O 2022.

Not much is known about the Pixel Watch for now, but it could be of interest to users who might prefer the Pixel brand over other brands of smartwatches. Google has so far dipped its toes into a variety of products with its Pixel branding, most notably its Pixel series of Android smartphones, Chromebook laptops, tablets, and even earbuds, so it’s actually kind of surprising that a Pixel-branded smartwatch was not launched sooner.

That being said, Prosser notes that Google is known for pushing back its launch dates so keep your expectations low for now and hopefully we’ll have more concrete details in the months leading up to I/O 2022.

AirTag Alert Helped Prevent A Truck From Potentially Being Stolen

Apple’s AirTag accessory has been gaining a fair bit of negative press over the past few months after people have been reporting that it has been used for theft and stalking. While Apple has built-in some anti-stalking features, the way the AirTag works, users only discover the accessory hours later which could be too late.

That being said, the double-edged nature of the accessory has actually been demonstrated in a report dating back in December 2021 by Fox 7 in Austin. According to the report, a man purchased a truck but was later notified on his iPhone that there was an unknown AirTag following him.

He reported the incident to the police where it was discovered that the truck he had bought was actually previously stolen. It was suggested by the police that the thieves who originally stole the truck might have planted the AirTag so they could track it and steal it again, but luckily the man’s iPhone alerted him to the tracker so he could do something about it.

The good news is that the truck has since been returned to its original owner, but the bad news is that the man who purchased the stolen truck is now out $800. Like we said, this story is actually a good example of how the AirTag can be used for good and bad purposes. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about how it has been used to steal cars, but it also shows that Apple’s anti-stalking feature works (kind of).
