You Can Now 3D Print The Steam Deck If You Want

When it comes to proprietary hardware, companies are understandably guarded about releasing such information because they don’t want the competition copying what they’re doing. However, in Valve’s case, it seems that they are ready to embrace modders for the Steam Deck console.

So much so that the company has announced that they will be posting the CAD files for the Steam Deck online so that users can 3D print it if they want. However, and this is pretty obvious if it wasn’t already, these CAD files are only for the chassis of the console, not the actual components that are used to make the console.

This means that while you can 3D print a Steam Deck chassis, you won’t actually be able to 3D print a working unit yourself. According to Valve, this seems to be aimed more towards modders and accessory makers who might want to do something for the Steam Deck, like maybe make a carrying case for it or additional accessories or peripherals.

We imagine that more ambitious modders might even try to make their own Steam Deck chassis with their own customizations, so having the official dimensions will no doubt help ensure that it fits properly. Users will of course need to pry open the console and transplant the components, so it’s definitely not for your average gamer to do.

Google Made A Pretty Cool Smart Light That You Can Never Buy

Google is no stranger when it comes to smart home products. The company already has smart speakers and smart thermostats, so it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that Google also made a smart light called the “dLight”, according to a tweet by Ben Gold who shared a photo of the device on his page.

If you like what you see in the photo, we have some bad news for you because it turns out that you cannot buy it. For the most part it doesn’t look too special or too unique and sports a clean and simple design, which is actually what we like about it. It features a lamp head and can be directed up or down and apparently it’s been designed that way to provide better lighting for video conferences.

Given that a lot of Google employees were working from home during the pandemic, this actually made sense. It is also said to feature the Google Assistant logo, so presumably it does have Google Assistant support in it. So like we said, this is a lamp that we as regular consumers will not be able to buy because apparently it’s only for employees.

It is a bit of a pity because we’re sure that some of you would have loved to get your hands on it, but who knows, maybe if there is enough demand for it, Google could eventually reconsider making it available to the rest of us.

Zoom Reassures Mic Bug On Macs Did Not Transmit Audio Data

It was reported last Friday that macOS users had noticed that an issue with the Zoom app on their computers where even after a call had ended, the microphone indicator was still on. This led to concerns that audio data was still being transmitted even when the call had ended and the microphone should have been turned off.

The good news is that following the attention that this raised, a Zoom spokesperson said that based on their investigation, this bug did not result in audio data being transmitted back to Zoom. The company also mentions that the bug was actually fixed on the 25th of January in the version 5.9.3 update.

The update was released in January but there was no mention of fixing the problem, so it was unclear if the company did address it. The reason is because the company pushed out an update earlier in December 2021 that was supposed to have fixed the problem, but Mac users discovered that it still persisted.

According to a post on the Zoom Community website, “We experienced a bug relating to the Zoom client for macOS, which could show the orange indicator light continue to appear after having left a meeting, call, or webinar. This bug was addressed in the Zoom client for macOS version 5.9.3 and we recommend you update to version 5.9.3 to apply the fix.”
