The QWERTY formant may not seem to be the most obvious keyboard layout, but it evolved to solve a number of problems as typing became more common.

MoviePass Is Coming Back and It’s Going to Be a ‘Web3 Marketplace’ This Time
Posted in: Today's ChiliMoviePass, the theater subscription service that went on a wild rollercoaster ride before crashing into bankruptcy, is coming back from the dead. For real. However, unlike the original service, the new MoviePass will be built on Web3 technology and allow users to essentially “sell” advertisers access to their eyeballs.…
Because gaming should be all-inclusive, inventor Akaki Kuumeri has created a snap-on attachment for Playstation 4 DualShock controllers that allow a player to operate all the peripheral’s buttons one-handed. The mod, which is constructed entirely from 3D printed pieces, even enables the use of the right thumbstick (typically for adjusting camera view) by moving the whole controller around a hinged pivot resting against your leg. Now that’s a clever design.
The right-side trigger buttons can also be operated with the left hand thanks to an extending arm, with a design that allows both the R2 and L2 triggers to be pressed at once, as is often necessary for first-person shooters. Akari has the 3D printing model files available for free download over at PrusaPrinters, with the default being a left-handed model. To make a right-handed model, just mirror all the pieces before printing. Of course, this is assuming you’ve already completed step one of the whole process: buying a 3D printer.
Not only is this a great opportunity for gamers with hand-related disabilities, but also for those of us who want to multitask while gaming. Like being able to snack or test. I mean, it never hurts to multitask. Except while driving, then it can hurt the worst. Eyes on the road!

Artiphon's Orbacam app now lets you record music without its $99 instrument
Posted in: Today's ChiliIn October, Artiphon released an iOS app to allow owners of its quirky Orba musical instrument to create and share music videos. A suite of built-in visual effects make the software a fun and easy way to create musical “selfies” and clips you can upload to places like TikTok and Instagram. If you want to check out the app, you can now do so without first buying the $99 Orba.
Artiphon has updated the software to add optional onscreen controls. Now all you need to do is tap the eight keys displayed on-screen to make music. At the top of the interface, there’s a toggle to switch between drum, bass, chord and lead modes, adding plenty of flexibility to your beatmaking. The app automatically generates visual effects that sync to the music you’re creating, and you have a variety of effects to choose from via a selection carousel. You’re also free to use either the front- or rear-facing camera on your phone to record footage.
You can download the updated Orbacam app starting today for free from the App Store.

One of the software complaints Apple faced over the years was how bloated its iTunes app was. Apple initially designed iTunes as a way for users to connect their iPods to computers and sync their music library, but over the years, it started to become a one-stop shop for various Apple services.
This eventually led to Apple splitting up the app into individual apps for music, podcasts, and so on. It looks like Apple could be learning from their iTunes mistake because it appears that the company could be developing a standalone music app just for classical music, at least that’s according to an APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google.
According to the teardown of the Apple Music Android app, they discovered references made to an “Apple Classical”. Not much is known about this for now so there is a chance we could be wrong about what it means. However, at the same time Apple did acquire Primephonic, a classical music streaming company, back in 2021.
The company’s standalone app was eventually shut down and users were told to use Apple Music until the new app was ready. This has led to speculation that Apple Classical could be the replacement app that classical music fans could be waiting for. We doubt that Apple will be launching a specific app for every single genre, so this could be to cater to Primephonic’s subscribers who want an easier way to find and discover classical music without having to wade through Apple Music’s entire catalog.

It’s now 2022 which means that later on in the year, Google will be releasing its next major Android update in the form of Android 13. The good news is that we won’t have to wait too long to find out the changes that Google has made because the company has since released the first developer preview.
Keep in mind that this is just the first of several developer previews that Google will probably release over the coming months. This isn’t a public beta for Android users yet and is aimed more towards developers who need to make sure their apps are compatible and for them to check out what’s new and what kind of features they can take advantage of.
However, like we said, it should give us a better look at Android 13 ahead of the official announcement which should take place at Google I/O in the coming months. According to Google’s Android 13 release schedule, the developer previews are expected to take place through March and it will be followed by a beta released from around mid-March until around June.
The company then expects a stable version to be available then followed by the final release, which they haven’t mentioned when yet, but we expect it should be around August or September which is par for the course.
