Trump’s free speech app Truth Social is censoring content and kicking off users

Former President Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, which launched only two days ago, is struggling with technical glitches and onboarding new users in the early stages of its rollout. The site, which billed itself as a sort of free speech alternative to Twitter with more lax content moderation policies, has already booted a few users off of its platform. Other users are struggling to even access the platform, which now has nearly half a million people on its waitlist.

User Matt Ortega was rejected from Truth Social on the basis of his username, @DevineNunesCow, reported Mashable. A parody Twitter account of the same name poked fun at former Rep. Devin Nunes, who is currently the CEO of Truth Social’s parent company.

A few users have pointed out that Truth Social’s moderation policy is significantly more strict than that of Twitter, despite its claim to be a refuge from Big Tech’s censorship. Unlike Twitter, Truth Social users can get suspended or booted from the platform altogether for posting content that moderators consider to be false, defamatory or misleading. While Twitter has had broad bans in the past on Covid-19 and election misinformation, it regularly allows other types of misinformation to fly by. Truth Social users also can get banned for posting content that moderators deem to be “libelous, slanderous, or otherwise objectionable”. Twitter tends to be selective in how it handles disputes between users, unless it involves targeted harassment campaigns.

Still, it’s unlikely Truth Social will be able to enforce such a strict moderation policy should it continue to grow in scale. The platform is relying on a combination of volunteer moderators, user reports and bots to handle content removal.

New and prospective users are also running into technical glitches while attempting to sign-up on the app, which is only available on iOS. The platform faced a 13-hour service outage just hours after its Sunday evening debut due to a flood of new users. It is now rate-limiting the number of new accounts which can be registered on the site. A waitlist to join the app, at the time of publishing, is more than 500,000 people long.

The app currently has a 4.1 star average user rating on Apple’s App Store, though a number of 5-star reviewers noted they hadn’t been able to sign up on the app yet. One reviewer who rated the app five stars wrote that they had yet to receive an email confirmation from Truth Social that hadn’t expired: “Every time I try to create an account, I don’t receive the email to confirm my email address. No, it’s not in junk mail either. One time I received the email many hours later and it was already expired. I keep trying and will continue to keep trying. 5 stars because I think someone is playing games and the review doesn’t matter because I haven’t even been able to set up an account yet. Just trying to resolve an issue.”

Spotify’s Car Thing Is Now Available For Purchase

Back in 2019, Spotify announced that they would be getting into hardware by launching a music player for cars called Car Thing. Now fast forward to three years later, Spotify’s Car Thing is finally available for purchase in the US if you’re willing to drop $90 for it.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Car Thing, it’s basically a dedicated Spotify player. Sure, there are infotainment units that do support Spotify’s music app, but in case you don’t have one of those modern systems, this could be a cheaper way of getting your dose of Spotify.

Plus it’s also incredibly easy to install and all you need to do is pair it over Bluetooth, AUX, or USB, and you’re good to go. It also utilizes different mounting systems so you can choose to mount it on your car’s dashboard or your car’s air-conditioning vents. Keep in mind that users will need to have a Spotify Premium subscription in order to use this.

If you’re already subscribed then this shouldn’t be an issue, but if you ever decide to stop your subscription, then the hardware would kind of be useless, so that’s something to take note of. If you’re interested in ordering the Car Thing, head on over to Spotify’s website for the details.

The Samsung Galaxy S22’s 45W Charger Doesn’t Seem To Make Any Difference

Galaxy S22 Plus, in Black

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, Samsung actually upgraded the charging speeds of both the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra models where it would support 45W charging. This is an upgrade over the previous-gen models which topped out at 25W.

So with nearly double the power output, this in theory should make the phones charge faster, right? Before you rush out and buy Samsung’s 45W charger for $49, you might want to check this out.

According to testing conducted by GSMArena, they found that using the 45W charger has almost no difference compared to the cheaper 25W charger that you might already have lying around. Based on their tests, they found that using the 45W charger to charge the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra, both phones reached 64% and 60% respectively in 30 minutes.

When using the 25W charger, the Galaxy S22+ hit 62% while the Galaxy S22 Ultra hit 61%. Charging the phones to 100% using the 45W charger, the Galaxy S22+ took 1 hour 1 minute, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra took 59 minutes. However, using the 25W saw both phones take about 1-3 minutes longer.

The difference in charging speeds is obviously very negligible to the point where it is well within the margin of error, so if you are thinking of spending $49 for the 45W charger, think again.

iPhone 14 Could See An Improvement To Battery Life With New 5G Chips

Just because two phones support 5G doesn’t necessarily mean that they are equal. We expect that will become a bit more obvious with the iPhone 14. This is according to a report from the Economic Daily News who claims that Apple will be turning to TSMC to manufacture the 5G RF chips for its upcoming iPhone 14 series.

So why is this a big deal? This is because thanks to TSMC’s manufacturing process, they will be able to make a 5G RF chip using the 6nm process. This in turn will result in a chip that’s more efficient and smaller.

Using a smaller process basically decreases the distance signals have to travel, and a shorter travel distance makes a chip more efficient. This is the same concept applied to the main chipsets powering our smartphones and tablets. Plus, having a chip that’s smaller physically could also in theory allow Apple to fit a bigger battery into the phone.

In addition to theoretically being more energy efficient, the new 5G RF chip that will make its way into the iPhone 14 will also reportedly support WiFi 6E. Of course, you will need to have a compatible router to really take advantage of this, but assuming you do, then these are some of the battery improvements you can look forward to in the iPhone 14.

‘Fall Guys’ finally adds full cross-play support

Last spring, Mediatonic added partial support for cross-platform play to Fall Guys. At the time, PlayStation and PC players could create custom lobbies to play against one another, and you would see people on other systems when matchmaking. But amidst all that, you could not form cross-platform parties. That’s changing with the game’s latest mid-season update.

Fall Guys now includes full cross-play support. Provided you and your friends have signed up for Epic Accounts and linked them to Fall Guys, you can start inviting one another to form parties. What’s more, you can take part in all available playlists, including Squads, Duos and Main Show, while in a cross-platform group.

As part of today’s update, Mediatonic also detailed Sweet Thieves, a new game mode coming to Fall Guys “in the very near future.” The mode will see your bean cast as either a Thief or Guardian. As the former, you’ll need to steal as many candy pieces as possible, while the latter will see you trying to locate and jail the Thieves. Mediatonic promised to share a trailer detailing the mode “very soon.”

Development On Windows 12 Could Start Next Month

Windows 11 was announced and released not too long ago, but apparently it seems that Microsoft is not wasting any time and could already be looking to start development on the next major version of Windows as soon as next month.

This is according to German website Deskmodder who claims to have been told by their sources that March 2022 is when Windows 12 development could begin. It seems a bit incredulous, but we should point out that major OS releases are a big deal and can impact the way we use our computers.

This means that Microsoft starting work early on Windows 12 is not a completely outrageous idea, but keep in mind that just because work on Windows 12 could start soon doesn’t mean that we will be seeing its release anytime soon either. This approach is how most companies would typically approach their products, where work on the next generation could already have begun even before the current version is released.

This gives companies time to test things, find out what works and what doesn’t, way before it is released. That being said, assuming Microsoft is following a similar timeline, we expect that Windows 11 will see about 5-6 years of use before the next version is announced, so don’t hold your breath for Windows 12 just yet.

Microsoft Testing Watermarks To Alert Windows 11 Users If They’re Using Unsupported Hardware

When Microsoft announced Windows 11, they also revealed some of the hardware requirements that users needed in order to upgrade to the new operating system. This doesn’t mean that if you don’t have the correct hardware you won’t be able to upgrade, but Microsoft won’t be able to guarantee your experience.

We imagine that most users would probably check to see if they can upgrade to Windows 11, but what about those who blindly upgrade without checking? According to user Albacore on Twitter, they have discovered that Microsoft is now testing out a new feature for Windows 11 that will place a watermark on your screen that lets you know you might be using unsupported hardware.

This watermark will appear on the lower right corner of your display and basically let you know that your computer’s system requirements are not met. Given that this is a test, it’s hard to say if this is something Microsoft will implement widely or if they might simply decide not to go through with it.

One of the reasons why this is a big deal is because one of the requirements for Windows 11 is the need for an Intel 8th gen Coffee Lake processor or an AMD Zen 2 CPU or better. This effectively left millions of users being technically unable to update. There are some workarounds, but this could result in quite a number of users seeing this watermark which might be troubling for some users.
