Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Could Come With A Body Temperature Sensor

When you’re sick and you go to the doctor, they might take your temperature. This is because a rise in your body’s temperature, especially above a certain degree, could indicate that you have a fever. Especially in today’s pandemic, a fever could be a sign that you might have caught the coronavirus.

Having a thermometer on your person all the time isn’t necessarily practical, plus it looks weird if you’re constantly pulling it out to take your temp, but that could change with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. According to a report from Korean publication ETNews, it seems that Samsung has figured out a way to include a body temperature sensor in the wearable.

Now, one of the problems with these types of sensors is that when worn on the wrist, it might not be too accurate simply because your body temperature can be affected by other non-illness related factors, such as the weather or if you just finished a workout. The report claims that this is one of the reasons Samsung had held back on including the sensor in its previous wearables.

However, they now claim that Samsung has since refined the tech and it will be able to provide much more accurate measurements. It is unclear how this will work, but assuming it’s true, it could be a rather useful feature to have in a smartwatch that you wear all the time.

Discovery will combine HBO Max and Discovery Plus following TimeWarner merger

Months after announcing their purposed $43 billion merger, WarnerMedia and Discovery have answered what will happen to HBO Max and Discovery Plus once they form the imaginatively named Warner Bros. Discovery. Per Variety, Discovery chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels said during a recent panel at the 30th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference that the company plans to combine the two platforms into one unified streaming service.

“One of the most important items here is that we believe in a combined product as opposed to a bundle,” he said. “We believe that the breadth and depth of this content offering is going to be a phenomenal consumer value proposition.”

Merging the two platforms is something Wiedenfels said he expects will take a few months for Warner Bros. Discovery to “do it in a way that’s actually a great user experience for our subscribers.” In the meantime, HBO Max and Discovery Plus customers should expect at least some form of bundling.

Wiedenfels suggested that could take the form of content sharing between the two platforms and the introduction of a single sign-on. One question the executive didn’t answer is how much it will cost to subscribe to the new combined service. Discovery Plus and HBO Max currently start at $5 and $10 per month, with both platforms offering more expensive ad-free tiers.

It’s not surprising to learn that Discovery and TimeWarner plan to unify their streaming platforms. When the merger was first announced last year, it was positioned as a move that would make the two companies better able to compete with Netflix, Disney+ and other rivals.

iOS 15.4 Now Available With Face ID Mask Unlocking

Last week, Apple teased that they would be releasing iOS 15.4 this week, and for those who have been looking forward to the update, you’ll be pleased to learn that it is now available and you can download it and update your iPhone already.

While Apple does tend to release updates from time to time, one of the more exciting features of this particular update is that it allows iPhone users to unlock their devices while wearing a mask using Face ID, which ironically enough was initially designed to be smart enough to detect when someone is wearing a mask and would prevent the phone from unlocking.

This is due to the ongoing pandemic where in many parts of the world, people are still wearing masks either by choice or due to government mandates. By giving users the ability to unlock their devices even when a mask is worn is pretty useful because prior to that, the only way users could unlock their iPhones was either using an Apple Watch or entering a passcode manually.

That being said, keep in mind that this mask unlocking feature is exclusive to the iPhone 12 and later, so even though devices like the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone 11 series all support Face ID, they will not be able to fully take advantage of this feature.

Silent Hill Trademark Updated, Could Hint At The Franchise’s Revival

It has been a while since we last saw a new Silent Hill game. Several years ago, it was revealed that legendary producer Hideo Kojima was working on a new game for Konami and a playable demo was released. However, it was later shelved and Kojima left to form his own studio and developed Death Stranding.

This left many to wonder what would become of the franchise after that. We did hear back in 2020 that new Silent Hill games were in development, and now according to Redditor LongJonSilver, it seems that we could be getting close to seeing a revival as Konami has updated the trademarks to the franchise.

Now, the trademarks themselves don’t really tell us what we might be able to expect. It is entirely possible that they might simply be updated to better protect Konami’s intellectual property and that’s it, but then again, why would the company go to that effort for a franchise that they don’t plan to update or continue, right?

It is unclear when we might be able to learn more about a new Silent Hill game, but like we said, following the rumors in 2020 that new games are in development, hopefully fans of the series won’t have to wait too long before Konami has some news to share with us.

iPhone 14 Pro Models To Feature A New Design With A Taller Display

When Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series, they also introduced a brand new design to its iPhone lineup where the company brought back the flat sides and edges that they originally introduced in the iPhone 4. However, it looks like Apple could be introducing a slight design change this year.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, they have been told by their sources that Apple is expected to introduce a new design to its iPhone 14 Pro models, which includes the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The changes will be mainly made to the display where they will now be “taller”.

This is apparently due to the use of the alleged pill-shape cutout that last we heard, is supposed to an exclusive to the Pro models as well. We’re not sure why the use of the pill cutout would require a taller display, but that’s something that we might be able to look forward to. It is unclear how much bigger the newer displays will be as a result of it being stretched, so we’ll have to wait and see.

The report also claims that Apple will be ditching the “mini” iPhone and will instead offer a 6.1-inch as the base model and a 6.7-inch  as the second model in the non-Pro series.

'Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands' will have cross-play on PC, Xbox and PlayStation

Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be released on March 25th and, in a first for the franchise, it will have full cross-play support. Those on PC, Xbox and PlayStation will all be able to play the fantasy-themed shooter together, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed on Twitter.

Gearbox added cross-platform support to Borderlands 3 in 2021, two years after that game debuted. Although PC, Mac, Xbox and Stadia gamers can join forces in the looter shooter, PlayStation users are locked out of cross-play for now. Publisher 2K Games told Gearbox to remove cross-platform support from PlayStation updates to get certification, Pitchford said at the time. However, that could be about to change. Pitchford now seesBorderlands 3 cross-play support on PS4 and PS5 as “inevitable” and said more details will be announced later.

Many games have adopted cross-play across all platforms over the last few years after Epic Games helped pave the way with Fortnite. Developers of older titles have added cross-play as well — Ubisoft will roll out the feature in For Honor this week, a month after the game’s fifth anniversary.

Mild Covid-19 Linked to Increased Inflammation in Cells Months Later, Study Finds

In new research out Monday, scientists say they’ve found evidence that our immune system appears more prone to inflammation and other metabolic changes in the aftermath of even a mild case of covid-19. More research will be needed to understand how these changes could be linked to post-covid symptoms, however.
