A few years ago, we saw many companies like Huawei launch smartphones with ultrazoom cameras. A good example would be Samsung where their phones featured a 100x zoom which utilized AI that helped capture images far off into the distance without it coming out blurry, which is usually the case when it comes to digital zoom.
Apple’s iPhones, on the other hand, do offer zoom but not to that extent, but that could change in the iPhone 15. According to analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities in a note seen by 9to5Mac, the analyst believes that come the iPhone 15, Apple could actually offer a periscope camera.
This periscope camera will allow the iPhone to shoot 5x optical zoom, allowing users to zoom in on subjects far away with crisper and cleaner images. Optical is general preferred over digital because how digital zoom works is that it basically crops the image, which is why it usually results in photos being blurry.
A periscope design would allow Apple to create a 5x optical zoom camera without adding too much additional bulk to the camera module. Since the iPhone 15 is more than a year away, it’s hard to say if this is true so for now, don’t put too much stock into it.

Imagine being able to lock-in customers for years, each paying monthly to own an iPhone and being able to upgrade on a semi-regular basis, that would be the dream, wouldn’t it? According to analytics firm, CIRP, they believe that Apple customers are actually already primed to do just that.
Following a report last week that suggested that Apple might be readying a hardware subscription program, CIRP did some additional research and found that based on their data, Apple customers are actually already kind of doing something similar which suggests that should Apple ever launch such a service, it wouldn’t be hard to convince customers to sign up for it.
According to the firm, “Based on current consumer behavior, iPhone users are primed to adopt a subscription service that provides an iPhone bundled with useful apps. Almost half iPhone owners already finance their iPhone purchase, paying monthly for a new phone. And about one-third trade-in their old phone when they buy a new one. So, a significant portion of the user base is accustomed to never owning a phone, instead basically leasing it.”
Of course, we imagine that a lot of this will boil down to price and how much Apple will charge for such a program, but what do you think? Would you be willing to sign up for such a subscription service should it ever be launched?

On apps like YouTube, there is a history feature where you can basically see which videos you’ve watched recently. Now according to a tweet by Hammod Oh, it appears that TikTok is testing out a similar feature for the app where users will soon be able to see all the videos they’ve watched so far.
Keep in mind that this isn’t exactly new per se. As TechCrunch notes, TikTok has indicators to let you know you’ve already seen a particular video. Users can also try and filter out videos they’ve watched on the Discover page, but it’s not exactly intuitive, especially for new users who are unfamiliar with the app.

By creating a dedicated section that lists the videos you’ve seen, it might make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. That being said, we have to wonder how practical this might be. Unlike YouTube videos which are longer, TikTok’s videos are meant to be binged so after 30 minutes of watching, you could have easily gone through 20-30 videos and over the course of a week, it might be harder to find the videos you’ve already seen.
However, we suppose it’s still a welcome feature, but at the moment since the feature is only in testing, we’re not sure if the company has plans to actually roll it out to users in the future.
