FAA extends environmental review of SpaceX Boca Chica launch site (again)

SpaceX has to wait even longer to find out if it can launch Starship flights out of its Boca Chica facility in Texas. The US Federal Aviation Administration has delayed its decision on the environmental review of the launch site yet again, pushing back its target date of completion to April 29th. SpaceX must secure the FAA’s approval, along with a vehicle operator license, to be able to launch Starship missions out of Boca Chica as planned.

To be exact, the agency is looking into whether launching the massive reusable vehicle out of the facility will have a significant environmental impact on the area and will be a threat to the safety of the public. Its original target date for completion was December 21st, 2021, but it pushed the date back to February 28th, 2022 and then again to March 28th. On the official page for the environmental assessment, the FAA said it’s updating its target date to April 29th “to account for further comment review and ongoing interagency consultations.” The FAA received 19,000 comments for the draft version of the review published last year.

SpaceX chief Elon Musk recently revealed that the company is hoping to send Starship into orbit for the first time in May. If the FAA finishes its review on time, and with a favorable result for the company, then there’s a chance the launch could happen in a couple of months. It’s worth noting, though, that Musk’s timelines could be a bit too optimistic.

In case the Boca Chica site fails the FAA’s environmental review or if the agency issues an environmental impact statement (EIS) to dig deeper into the company’s plans over the next few years, then SpaceX could shift to its backup plan. During a Starship presentation earlier this year, Musk said SpaceX already has approval to launch the Starship from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The move would delay the vehicle’s first flight by six to eight months, since the company has to build a launch tower on the launch site, but at least the wait wouldn’t last for years.

Samsung’s New M8 Smart Monitor Will Match Your Mac Setup

If there’s one thing clever about Apple’s designs is that they’ve all been designed in such a way that they all seem to complement each other really well. Like the newly launched Studio Display that would look at home next to the Mac Studio or one of Apple’s MacBook Air or MacBook Pro laptops.

But the problem with Apple products is that they’re pricey, and the Studio Display is no exception starting at $1,600. If you want an Apple-ish aesthetic but don’t want to pay the Apple tax, Samsung’s new M8 Smart Monitors might be worth checking out because honestly, it looks pretty good.

The monitors were initially announced at CES 2022 and is now finally available for purchase where it is priced at $730, which is honestly not too bad of an asking price. It will feature a 32-inch display, larger than the Studio Display, and offers a 4K resolution which is lower than the Studio Display’s 5K, but if you’re fine with 4K then this is not an issue.

As the name suggests, this is a smart display which means that it offers features like the ability to play Netflix natively even if you don’t have a device connected to it. It also supports other streaming services and even apps like Google Docs, and there is even AirPlay 2. The display also comes with support for HDR10+ and there is a USB-C interface and it can even support digital assistants like Bixby or Amazon Alexa.

IKEA Unveils Outdoor Vappeby Bluetooth Speaker Lamp

Do you love hanging outdoors, just chilling with some friends and blasting some tunes? Then you might be interested in checking out IKEA’s Vappeby Bluetooth speaker lamp because as the name suggests, it is both a lamp and a speaker, making it great for evening barbeques or even when you’re camping.

The best part is that the Vappeby is also water-resistant with an IP65 rating, meaning that it should be fine getting a little moist, but definitely do not go swimming with it. The lamp part of the device features the use of an LED bulb that has two light modes in it, so it should also last you quite a bit.

The speakers offer 360 degree sound and IKEA has even built-in support for Spotify Tap functionality, allowing Spotify users to resume playback with a single tap. Obviously those subscribed to other services like YouTube Music or Apple Music or Tidal won’t get to use this feature, but if you’re a Spotify subscriber it might actually be pretty cool.

If the IKEA Vappeby Bluetooth speaker lamp is something that has caught your attention and you think that you might want to get one for yourself, it will be available for purchase via IKEA’s website where it is priced at a pretty affordable $65.

Rockstar Continues To Milk GTA 5 With GTA+ Subscription Service

While gamers have been waiting for Rockstar to eventually launch GTA 6, it seems that until then, the company is continue to milk GTA 5 gamers with a newly announced GTA+ subscription service aimed at those who are still enjoying GTA Online.

According to Rockstar, “Being a GTA+ Member gets you a recurring monthly GTA$500,000 direct deposit to your Maze Bank account, plus the opportunity to claim properties in and around Los Santos that unlock gameplay updates you may have missed out on, special vehicle upgrades, Member-only discounts, GTA$ and RP bonuses, and more each month.”

The subscription is priced at $6 a month and as you can see above, it will come with added perks such as credits that will be added to your in-game bank account every month, along with exclusive upgrades, discounts, and more. To be fair, $6 isn’t too bad and given how many people are still enjoying GTA Online, it makes sense for Rockstar to attempt to further monetize it.

Rockstar did recently confirm that the next installment for the Grand Theft Auto series is in development, but when exactly we can expect to see the game launch is anyone’s guess, which is why like we said, many players are still playing the game through GTA Online.
