I’m not averse to the avatar. I’ve been a fan of virtually identifying myself as a PNG since the dawning of the “cartoon dolls” from the online avatar hangout app called The Palace. Those were the days of anonymously floating around the internet.
In a special reveal today at Comic-Con Marvel screened the first trailer for the animated show, I Am Groot. Vin Diesel is reprising his role as the voice of Groot, and it was said on the panel that Bradley Cooper will also be returning to voice Rocket Raccoon, Groot’s rascally best friend and terminal bad influence.
Warner Bros. Games’ MultiVersus is a fun take on platform fighters like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Brawlhalla. It’s soon going into open beta with a roster packed with characters from across a wide range of WB franchises. Developer Player First Games is about to add one more to the mix: Space Jam: A New Legacy star LeBron James.
The NBA icon will join the lineup when the open beta starts on July 26th. Unsurprisingly, his offense centers around the use of a basketball. He can throw a ball at opponents or dribble one around his feet to damage enemies. James is also able to block projectiles by building a fence. Surprisingly (or not, depending on how much you appreciated his thespian skills in Space Jam), James isn’t voicing himself in the game. Actor John Bentley will play him.
WB also announced that a couple of other fan-favorite characters will join the lineup soon, as Rick and Morty are on the way. Many of Rick’s abilities are based around his portal gun. He’ll be available when season one starts on August 9th. Morty, who will arrive later in the season, can whip himself at opponents and use grenades.
The trio will be added to an ever-expanding and fairly peculiar roster. Big names like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Bugs Bunny are all in the mix, as are Arya Stark from Game of Thrones and Shaggy and Velma from Scooby Doo. Tom and Jerry play as a single character, rather than trying to throttle one another.
The Iron Giant, the most recent addition, is portrayed as a gentle-hearted being in the film of the same name who only fights when it’s completely necessary. In MultiVersus, he’s beating up opponents like the rest of the cast, which the developers justified by saying the game takes place in an alternate universe.
If that’s not odd enough, leaks have suggested Ted Lasso, Gizmo from Gremlins (you know, the cute one) and the Wicked Witch from The Wizard of Oz are coming to the roster as well. For what it’s worth, those leaks are from the same person who revealed the game’s existence in the first place and who said LeBron, Rick and Morty were MultiVersus-bound too.
What if…there was a trailer for season two of Marvel Studios’ What If? Well, sadly, we will have to wait a little bit longer. The studio has not released first trailer for the animated series, but the Marvel Animation panel did show off the kinds of characters and cameos we can expect from the franchise.…
Transfering what threads and data across Android and iOS was easily the most-requested WhatsApp feature, and it is finally possible for users to get it done automatically. Note that the call history or payment messages won’t be transferred over.
When transferring WhatsApp data from Android to iOS, users can import WhatsApp’s chat history via the Move to iOS app. The WhatsApp integration was in beta for some time, but everybody can now access it. WhatsApp has a dedicated help page that explains the process, but essentially:
To start the Android to iOS transfer, follow the prompt on the Move to iOS Android app and execute the requested actions on the iPhone. Once the transfer is finished, activate the iOS device, and your Whatsapp chats will be there. The data remains on the Android device until you delete it.
Having to reset the iPhone is not ideal, but at least there’s a way to get this done quickly and without paying for a 3rd party app. Alternatively, you could backup your data to one of the cloud options available natively in WhatsApp.

Smartphones are packing ever-more computing power (CPU, Graphics, AI), and that’s all great. However, to truly use that power sustainably, devices need to dissipate the heat generated by all these zero and one state switching inside the processors.
It’s incredibly tricky in extremely compact devices where the electronics are essentially sandwiched between the battery and the display, two elements that are also generating quite a bit of heat.
Typically, some heatsink or heat-transmitting material is put in contact with the processor’s top to conduct the heat away and let it diffuse elsewhere. Instead, high-end phones have replaced that passive material with vapor chamber cooling as a much more efficient solution.
Vapor chambers are enclosed cooling components with liquid inside. When heated, heat energy turns the liquid into a gas (the vapor) which travels away from the processor to the other side of the vapor chamber, where it cools down and turns back into a liquid (condensation).
The condensation releases the heat away from the heat source. The vapor then turns into a liquid that will go back to the processor. It’s much better than simply waiting for an inert piece of metal to transfer heat.
Infinix came up with its own improved vapor chamber design. It’s hard to compare different designs because we typically can’t run them on the same hardware platform as we would with a gaming PC.
However, the illustrations show a large surface area where cooling can occur. That’s a good sign and is typically a key metric to observe. Infinix says it has utilized an advanced “3D” design to increase the overall chamber volume, and it makes sense as the width and length might be limited by the phone’s form factor.
While the principle is relatively simple, building such cooling devices at an extremely small scale is challenging. Minor manufacturing defects could prevent the design from performing as expected. The design theory needs to meet the manufacturing realities.
Ultimately, we need to measure the sustained performance in apps such as 3D gaming or other computationally demanding tasks. In theory, the performance would be less susceptible to drops due to thermal throttling (reducing computing speed to lower the heat).

The reservoir is now less full than in April 1937, when it was still being filled for the first time. It is hovering around 27% of its full capacity, according to NASA Earth Observatory.…
Volkswagen is shaking up its leadership. The automaker has announced that group chairman Herbert Diess will leave at the end of August. Porsche chairman Oliver Blume will take over the role (while preserving his existing position) as of September 1st. The company didn’t explain Diess’ exit, but said the move was the result of a “mutual agreement.”
Diess has a somewhat mixed track record. He replaced former chief Martin Winterkorn as the Dieselgate emissions cheating scandal unfolded in 2015, and was meant to help VW move past a dark chapter in its history. In 2019, though, German prosecutors charged Diess with stock manipulation for allegedly delaying reports on the cheating to minimize the impact on company shares. Diess’ attorney contended that the executive joined VW too late to understand the ramifications of the scandal, but the allegations still tarnished the leader’s reputation.
At the same time, there’s little doubt that Diess oversaw an important moment in VW’s history. He helped the company start its transition to EVs and self-driving cars. He also prepared for declining car ownership by fostering mobility services. Much of VW’s business still depends on conventional combustion engine vehicles, but it now expects EVs to represent half of its sales by 2030. If the Dieselgate-era VW was clinging to the past, Diess’ company was bracing itself for the future.
Don’t expect a radical change under Blume. The new chairman will “press ahead” with the transformation that largely began under Diess, according to VW. Blume may serve as a custodian in that regard, but that won’t necessarily be a problem if the company continues to expand and improve its EV lineup.
