The Kobo Clara2E e-reader is waterproof and made of recycled plastic

If you’re looking for an e-reader that doesn’t fall under the Amazon or Apple umbrella, Kobo is a solid option. The company today unveiled the Clara2E, the successor to the affordable, 6-inch Clara e-reader it released in 2018. The new model is waterproof and features a shell that is made of 85 percent recycled plastic, which the company says makes the e-reader more “eco-conscious” (for comparison, the 2021 Paperwhite is made of 60 percent recycled plastic and 70 percent recycled magnesium.) Kobo says it plans to source the material for the Clara 2E from plastic bottles found in the ocean, along with CDs and DVDs from landfills. At $130, the Clara2E is cheaper than Kobo’s other waterproof models and more compact.

Similar to the older Clara, the Clara2E also has a 6-inch screen and a blue light reduction feature known as ComfortLightPRO. It has an upgraded HD E Ink Carta 1200 glare-free screen and Dark Mode, making it adaptable for both reading outdoors and late at night. It comes with 16 GB of storage (about double that of the original Clara) and is Bluetooth-enabled, allowing for easy listening of audiobooks.

The Clara2E won’t go on sale until September 22nd, but you can pre-order one now on Kobo’s website. The e-reader will will be sold in Canada, the US, the UK, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Kobo Finally Has a Worthy Budget Challenger to the Kindle Paperwhite 5

The $100 Kobo Nia is one of the cheapest ad-free e-readers for digitizing your reading library, but it lacks many features that can greatly improve your reading experience. For just $30 more, the new Kobo Clara 2E brings better screen lighting that’s easier on the eyes, plus two important upgrades that should put a…

A LEGO-Powered Water Vortex Machine

Because there are very few things you can’t create with LEGO, YouTuber Brick Technology has constructed a collection of transparent, spherical LEGO machines capable of spinning their orbs fast enough to produce water vortices inside. How about that! I wonder what the liquid inside tastes like. My guess is water. Disappointingly, it’s almost always just colored water.

One of the LEGO Technic machines is operated by a Playstation controller, can spin the orb in any direction, and in the video creates a very impressive water vortex, as well as a water band (seen above) by spinning the orb vertically like a car tire. Centripetal force! Science! Or dark magic?

I really want one of these as a executive desk toy, that way everyone who enters my office immediately knows I’m high-level management. Granted I’m not high-level management, and the only people who come into my office are my dogs and cat, but still, maybe I can convince myself that I’m high-level management.

$15,000 Diamond Encrusted Apple Watch Case Is The World’s Most Expensive

Because “How can we add diamonds?” is the thought on many jewelry designer’s minds, Golden Concept of Sweden has created the Golden Concept Diamond Edition, the world’s most expensive Apple Watch case. The case features 443 diamonds totaling over 4 carats set in a single block of titanium. Personally, I think it’s an eyesore, but I just saw my wife add it to her Christmas list, so I guess different strokes for different folks.

The luxury watch band only fits the Apple Watch Series 7 45mm model, and will presumably be obsolete with the upcoming announcement of the new Apple Watch 8, which I’m sure Apple will make either 44mm or 46mm just to ensure previous aftermarket products won’t be compatible. I’m on to you, Apple!

If you really do want one you better act fast, because Golden Concept is only making seven of them in total, which is seven too many if taste and decency actually prevailed in this world. Oh who am I kidding, it’s kind of growing on me.
