Two images have surfaced online showing a Pepsi-branded Tesla Semi being towed by an even larger tow truck. What does this mean for the companies?
I get it: On one hand, you want to be a resilient off-grid solarpunk freed from the yoke of your increasingly-unreliable power company. On the other, you’d still like to enjoy creature comforts both at home and when you’re on the road. It’s a problem EcoFlow understands, and has turned up to CES promising to help.
The company is showing off a new Whole Home Backup Solution, which ties in to its existing Delta Pro batteries. But that’s less interesting to me than the gizmos which are joining the ecosystem at today’s show. That includes Blade, a robotic lawnmower looking more like an RC car than its garden-shaving brethren, but the company says it’ll both trim your lawn and pick up fallen leaves, making “lawn care totally hassle-free.”
Then there’s Glacier, a portable fridge which comes with its own built-in battery and, crucially, its own ice maker. That way, you can keep the cocktails coming when the power is out, as well as keep vital medicines and other necessaries cold when the power’s gone. Rounding out the set is a new, updated version of its Wave, battery powered portable air conditioner, which can now do heating as well as cooling.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a timeline for when we can play with these products, or how much we can expect to pay for them when they arrive. But it does look as if there’s going to be a lot more people looking to add some energy independence to their homes in the future. And, I’m sure, plenty of them won’t want to abandon their creature comforts.
Lenovo unleashed a salvo of computers at CES 2023, and the new 16-inch Legion Pro 7i gaming laptop caught our attention thanks to its powerful configuration options. CPU options feature Intel’s Core i9-13900HX CPU that can be paired with NVIDIA’s RTX 4090.
The chassis features massive exhaust vents and Lenovo’s Legion Cold Front 5.0 cooling system, an aggregate of hardware and software cooling technologies. It goes from the thermal compound to the heatsinks and the AI-driven software that controls fans and power.
Lenovo even promotes the LA AI chip, which runs the Lenovo AI Engine+. It learns from your usage patterns and adapts your system configuration to achieve higher FPS and cooling efficiency.
It’s possible to configure it with up to 32GB of 6000Mhz DDR5 RAM and 2TB (2x 1TB) of SSD storage, making it an excellent gaming computer and a potentially great Creative workstation. That’s especially true since the 16” 2560×1600 display can reproduce 100% of the sRGB color gamut at 240Hz and a maximum brightness of 500 NITs.
The screen is also compatible with NVIDIA’s G-Sync to ensure a tear-free gaming experience at the highest possible framerate. The VESA Display HDR 400 will make compatible content more realistic, whether games or movies.
You can opt for a more affordable configuration (CoreTM i7-13700HX and RTX 4070), but the laptop is designed for extreme performance, and it’s impressive for a 6.1 Lbs chassis that measures 63.4 x 262.15 x 21.95-25.9 mm. Gaming laptops are understandably bulkier than your typical office mobile computer but have vastly superior performance/Lbs ratios.
Such computers are power-hungry; that’s why Lenovo has battery capacities of 99Wh or 80Wh, which is at the upper limit of what’s allowed in airplanes if you wonder where these numbers are coming from. Technically, you can board with a battery of up to 160 Wh, but anything above 100 Wh requires additional paperwork.
Depending on your configuration, the proprietary power adapter could be 330W or 300W. There’s even a 140W configuration that delivers this wattage over USB-PD, which is a wonderful option. We love seeing how USB-PD constantly gets higher wattage to become a universal power-delivery system.
When the battery is depleted, you can use Lenovo’s fast charging, which is said to charge from 0% to 80% battery in only 30mn, and 100% in one hour. That is very fast charging right there.
I would instead get the smaller battery and upgrade something else, like RAM or SSD, depending on the configuration options. There are plenty of ports in the laptop’s left, right and rear sides, and that’s one thing I can never complain about when dealing with gaming laptops.
