Man Builds World’s Largest Nintendo 3DS with a 42″ Screen

After building a giant Nintendo DS last year, YouTuber BigRig Creates decided to mod the unit into the world’s largest Nintendo 3DS, complete with a functional touchpad, giant saucer thumbstick, and a 42″ 3D screen. My living room demands it. Sure, prior to seeing it, I thought the whole point of portable gaming systems was to be portable, but what do I know? SPOILER: Very little, apparently.

The giant 3DS has all the features of the regular-size gaming system, several of which required some clever hacking to scale to such a large size. The thumbstick was crafted using an Android smartphone running a directional pad app, with the giant saucer making contact with its screen and rubber bands causing it to snap back to its center position when not in use. Ingenuity!

Honestly, it’s probably best I don’t have a giant 3DS in the living room, or it’s likely I wouldn’t be writing this right now but playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D instead. If I had to estimate, I’d say my productivity has dropped at least 90% since starting to work from home.
