Lyft co-founder Logan Green is stepping down as CEO

More than a decade into its life, Lyft is bringing on a new chief executive officer. On Monday afternoon, the company announced current CEO and co-founder Logan Green would hand day-to-day operations of Lyft to David Risher, a former Amazon executive, on April 17th. That same day, Green will take over as chair of Lyft’s board of directors. The announcement is part of a larger executive shuffle that will also see Lyft president and co-founder John Zimmer move to the company’s board where he will serve as its vice chair. Zimmer’s last day as president will be June 30th.

Green and Zimmer founded Lyft in 2012 and successfully took the company public in 2019. Since its IPO, however, the value of Lyft’s stock has dropped dramatically. Following an initial high of $78.29 per share in 2019, the stock hit a record low of $9.60 per share earlier today. On February 9th, the day Lyft announced its Q4 2022 results, the stock shed 36 percent of its value after Green delivered what was widely considered one of the worst earnings calls in recent memory, telling investors the company would need to increase spending to stay competitive with Uber. To say Lyft’s new CEO has his work cut out for him would be an understatement. The company has never reported a profit, and, barring a surprise breakthrough in autonomous driving, it has a difficult path ahead due to the economics of ride-sharing. Still, Risher is definitely qualified to turn Lyft around having previously served as Amazon’s first head of product and head of US retail.

Framework Announces Two Modular Laptops At GDC 2023

The Framework brand has recently unveiled two exciting new modular laptops at GDC 2023 – Laptop 13 and Laptop 16. The Laptop 13 is available in two different configurations, featuring a 13th Gen Intel Core or an AMD Ryzen 7040 Series processor, with the latter being a first for the brand. It also boasts a higher-capacity battery, matte display, louder speakers, and more rigid hinges, making for an enhanced user experience.

Preorders for the Laptop 13 are now available in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Austria, Ireland, and Australia, with shipments starting in May. A batch preorder system is in place, with only a fully refundable $100/€100/£100 deposit required. The prebuilt configurations start at $1049 with Windows 11 preinstalled, while the Framework Laptop DIY Edition starts at $849 and allows for personalization in terms of memory, storage, operating system, Bezel color, and Keyboard.

Framework’s Laptop 13

In keeping with the product philosophy of designing for longevity, all of the upgraded modules are compatible with existing Framework Laptops. Preorders for mainboards with 13th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7040 Series processors are available now, with shipments beginning in May. Users can also sign up to be notified when the other new modules become available in the Framework Marketplace.

Higher performance with the Framework Laptop 16

The Framework Laptop 16 is a new high-performance laptop that carries forward the design philosophy of its predecessor, the Laptop 13, and offers repair and customization options. The new laptop also features two new module ecosystems: a fully reconfigurable input deck and modular, upgradeable graphics. The input system offers nearly unlimited options for customization, with hot-swappable input modules in three sizes: Small, Medium (Numpad Modules), and Large (Keyboard Modules).

The Expansion Bay system allows for modular graphics upgrades and a range of other non-graphiailable on GitHub for all three systems, and the company plans to open the Framework Marketplace to third-party module makers.

The Framework Laptop 16 is built to be customized to the needs of gamers, developers, heavy Linux users, creators, and others with performance-demanding work. The company will be sharing full specifications, pricing, and availability when they open preorders in spring 2023, ahead of shipments in late 2023.

Huawei Mate X3: One Of The Lightest Foldable Phones Was Just Announced

With the popularity of foldable phones rising, companies like Samsung have been leading the way with early offerings however, recent brands such as Honor (Magic Vs) and Huawei (with its just announced Mate X3) are beginning to shift the landscape. Huawei’s latest foldable focuses on maximizing pocketable screen space while keeping the weight down. The Mate X3 boasts a great hardware package, weighing in at just 239 grams (slightly heavier than the Oppo Find N2 at 233 grams but 10% lighter than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4).

Despite the low weight, the IPX8 water-resistant body features a teardrop hinge for the 7.85-inch inner display, with a 2496 x 2224 pixel resolution. The 6.4-inch cover display has a taller 20.9:9 aspect ratio and a 2504 x 1080 pixel resolution. Internally, the phone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. It also includes a 4,800mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless support.

As for the cameras, the Mate X3 has an 8MP module for selfies (on each display), as well as a triple-camera array on the back consisting of a 50MP (f/1.8) primary shooter, a 13MP (f/2.2) ultrawide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens (with 5x optical zoom).

Due to US sanctions against Huawei, the Mate X3 lacks standard Google apps, and 5G connectivity is also missing because Huawei doesn’t have access to the necessary modems. There have also been reports that the edges around the display are not as slim as they appear in promotional materials. The Mate X3 has only been released in China, with no news about international availability.

The phone comes in three storage variants, with the 256GB model priced at CNY 12,999 ($1,906), the 512GB model at CNY 13,999 ($2,052), and the 1TB model at CNY 15,999 ($2,345).

While an international debut seems unlikely due to the lack of 5G and Google apps, anything is possible. Would you go for this new foldable if it was available in the US?
