Evil Dead Rise hits theaters on Friday, bringing with it copious gore and Deadites galore, but no wisecracking Bruce Campbell; the setting also shifts the action from the woods to Los Angeles. Somehow, it still feels very true to the beloved horror series, and io9 got a chance to talk to writer-director Lee Cronin to…

Hot Wheels: Rift Rally Turns Your House Into a Miniature Monaco

Although I tend to roll my eyes at toys that offer enhanced play through an app that adds virtual effects on a mobile device’s screen, I think that Velan Studios has come up with a convincing use case for augmented reality with Hot Wheels: Rift Rally, which makes driving a tame RC toy actually feel like you’re behind…

3D Without glasses: Acer Unveils the New Helios High Performance Gaming Laptop

Acer has announced new updates to its gaming laptop line-up, with advanced designs and support for the latest technology, including the 13th Gen Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs. The company has introduced three new models, including the Predator Triton 17 X, Predator Helios Neo 16, and Predator Triton 14. However, the highlight is the Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition which introduces glasses-free stereoscopic 3D to gaming.

The Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition is indeed a fantastic machine for 3D enthusiasts, (and if you are a fan of 3D tech, don’t forget we have a hands-on review of the Acer SpatialLabs 3D Display). It is powered by the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900HX Processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTXTM 4080 Laptop GPU. It comes with up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 MHz memory and supports a discrete GPU only option that gamers can enable through PredatorSense 4.1 to maximize performance. The back vents of the laptop have been streamlined and now feature subtle RGB lighting along the back edge for a soft, ambient glow of lights.

SpatialLabs 3D technology is done in partnership with award-winning Dutch startup Dimenco, as it was announced at CES 2022. Dimenco brings together hardware, software, and technology to provide fast, immersive, and lifelike 3D experiences without the need for wearables, and it has already created a variety of innovative products while also assisting OEMs in transitioning from conventional to extraordinary technology manufacturing.

The combination of SpatialLabs eye-tracking solution, stereoscopic 3D display, and real-time scene rendering technologies enables the Predator Helios 3D 15 to bring to life eye-popping 3D scenes, objects, and characters in its 15.6-inch display. The laptop includes access to the latest version of the TrueGame application that offers different 3D gaming modes with 3D+ and 3D Ultra settings for over 70 titles, with more being added continuously.

Price and Availability

This machine will be available in North America and EMEA in June, with prices starting at USD 3,499 and EUR 3,999, respectively (the exact specifications, prices, and availability will vary by region).

The new gaming laptop line-up from Acer, with its latest technology and advanced features, is expected to revolutionize the gaming experience for gamers across the world. What do you think about this machine? Drop a comment giving us your opinion!

Cyberpunk Taxidermist Mods Hercules Beetle Into A Realistic Mechanical Insect

Cyberpunk taxidermist and YouTuber Yi Zhizhu decided to mod a deceased Hercules beetle (Dynastes Hercules) into a realistic mechanical model using a bunch of small watch parts and springs and lights, and other pieces. If you scroll down, there’s a video documenting that process, the entirety of which I thought was pretty fascinating to watch. I mean, unless you have an aversion to bugs, then it’s probably a nightmare.

In addition to several lighting effects, the finished model even has wings that flap and a horn that raises and lowers when its power is turned on. I was not expecting that. Of course, I wasn’t expecting anybody to mod a dead beetle into a cyberpunk model either, yet here we are.

I’ve always been fascinated by large beetles and have several life-size models of different rhino beetles on display in my office, although I don’t have any actual dead bugs in my collection. I do have several in the corners of my house, along with a bunch of dust bunnies, though, much to my wife’s dismay.
