Dolby And TCL Partner To Transform TV Audio With Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

Dolby Laboratories and TCL have joined hands to introduce Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, an innovative feature presented at IFA 2023 that aims to improve TV sound by offering adaptable and immersive audio experiences. This cutting-edge technology will make its debut in TCL’s 2024 TV lineup.

What It Offers and Why It Matters

What exactly is Dolby Atmos FlexConnect? It’s a smart system that syncs a TV’s built-in sound system with wireless accessory speakers to create an immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience. What sets this system apart is its ability to adapt the audio output to the specific layout and speaker configuration of any room. In simple terms, it promises to provide excellent audio quality from every seat.

This feature allows users to place wireless speakers anywhere in the room without compromising sound quality. The technology adjusts to various room sizes and layouts, ensuring optimal sound performance regardless of power outlet locations or furniture setups. Check out some of the benefits of Dolby Atmos FlexConnect:

  • Enhanced Audio Experience: Dolby Atmos already delivers multi-dimensional sound. FlexConnect takes it further by enabling users to add wireless accessory speakers.
  • Versatile Placement: Position speakers conveniently without compromising sound quality.
  • Simple Setup: No extra equipment or cables are needed. The TV’s built-in microphones automatically calibrate the system by locating each speaker.
  • Dynamic Audio Balancing: The system intelligently distributes audio between the TV and wireless speakers, optimizing based on speaker capabilities and location.

TCL is also planning to introduce a new range of wireless accessory speakers designed to complement its Dolby Atmos FlexConnect-equipped TVs. Both are showcasing this technology at IFA 2023, powered by MediaTek’s Pentonic Smart TV series chipset. For more information about the Penctonic series, check out MediaTek’s official website.

Introducing HyClean Pure: Miele’s Greenest Vacuum Bag

Miele took the opportunity during IFA 2023 to introduce the HyClean Pure vacuum cleaner bag. Created with 80% recycled material, it not only filters out 99.99% of dust but also takes a significant step towards sustainability. It’s the highest recycled content Miele has ever had in a vacuum bag.

The 80% recycled material content doesn’t compromise its performance or filtration quality. This advancement marks a significant stride in Miele’s dustbag business, which welcomed Belgian manufacturer Eurofilters in 2022.

The bag’s design, featuring a darker seam, reflects the higher recycled plastic proportion. While it reduces filtration layers from six to eight down to five, it maintains seam and collar quality – both also constructed from recycled materials. Despite using less random-spun material, the bag still achieves 99.99% filtration and a larger 3.4-liter capacity.

A new water jet charging technology during random-spun material production contributed to this achievement — This hydrocharging technique eliminates the need for additional fine filtration layers, securely containing dust, allergens, and debris within the bag. Customers can also look forward to the HyClean Pure’s packaging, crafted entirely from recycled paper:

HyClean Pure’s packaging was crafted entirely from recycled paper.

Miele is in the process of certifying the ‘Blauer Engel’ (‘Blue Angel’), a respected environmental certification awarded by the German government. This certification validates the HyClean Pure vacuum bag’s environmental sustainability and functionality. The award is expected in two months. The transition to HyClean Pure bags begins in October for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, followed by Europe and Asia in January 2024.

Availability

This new bag generation is compatible with a wide range of Miele vacuum cleaner models. The product will be available in October, coming across the DACH region — Central European countries of Germany (D), Austria (A), and Switzerland (CH) —, with more countries to follow. The price was not yet disclosed.

Sony's $200 PlayStation Portal handheld arrives on November 15th

PlayStation Portal, Sony’s $200 handheld for PS5 game streaming, is available to pre-order today before its November 15th launch. The company announced the availability details today in an update to its announcement post from last week. The upcoming device requires a PS5 and a persistent WiFi connection.

Sony markets the device as “the handheld gateway to your PS5 games.” Its eight-inch LCD screen offers 1080p visuals at 60 frames per second, and it includes haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Engadget’s Kris Holt aptly described the device’s appearance as “a bit like a tablet wedged between two halves of a DualSense controller.”

However, PlayStation Portal doesn’t support cloud streaming through PlayStation Plus Premium or similar services. Nor does it have any local apps. The device merely acts as a WiFi remote streaming controller for the PS5 you already own. However, at least it supports long-distance remote play as long as your console is up and running at home.

You can pre-order the PlayStation Portal Remote Player exclusively from Sony.
