The best iPhones for 2024: Which model should you buy?

It’s a question as old as time, or at least the early 2010s: Which iPhone should you buy? For most, the answer is simple: Buy the highest-end Apple phone you can afford. And if you’re happy with your current handset, don’t buy a new one at all. But if you’re sure it’s time to upgrade and need a hand, let us help. We at Engadget have tested and reviewed iPhones since their inception, including all eight models Apple sells today. Below, we’ve broken down the current iPhone lineup and named a few top picks.

Before we dig in, let’s be clear: There isn’t really a “bad” iPhone. Each model provides a similar set of core perks: tight integration with other Apple devices, premium hardware, lengthy software support, and services like iMessage, Apple Pay and FaceTime. With the latest iPhone 15 series, Apple has finally swapped its charging ports from Lightning to the more universal USB-C. Still, some models are better buys than others right now. Just note that we’ve based this guide on the prices for new unlocked iPhones at Apple’s online store. If you can find a good deal on a refurbished model or a heavy discount from a carrier or a third-party retailer, that could change the equation depending on your budget.

ZTE nubia Flip 5G Unveiled As A Cost-Effective Alternative Foldable Phone

In Barcelona, ZTE unveiled its latest foldable phone, the nubia Flip 5G, at MWC 2024, positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to compete with devices like the Motorola Razr 40 and offering a simpler and more affordable option compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The device maintains the “flip” design and technical specifications of the ZTE Libero Flip 5G (launched last year as the brand’s first foldable phone, but was exclusive to Japan). With the nubia Flip 5G, the Chinese manufacturer seems ready to enter the global market and compete with other foldable offerings.

Featuring a flexible 6.9-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, the internal screen includes a center-hole cutout housing a 16MP selfie camera. The rear camera module, shaped like a ring, includes a 50MP main lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Additionally, there is a 1.43-inch AMOLED external display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels for notifications and quick information.

One of the key highlights of the nubia Flip 5G is its cost-effectiveness, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, a mid-range chip paired with options of 6GB or 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB.

To support the device, it is equipped with a 4,310mAh battery with 33W fast charging. The phone comes with a custom user interface based on Android 13 (which might be disappointing to some people since Google is already preparing for the launch of Android 15).
